personally I think a Monster's, Inc. prequel is a bit unnecessary

especially with how bad Cars 2 turned out

(granted, I didn't like the first Cars either)

    but

Mastodon are writing and recording a brand new song for it

    so there's that

the NECA Terminator Kyle Reese I ordered arrived today.

pretty impressed with it overall, although the particular figure I got suffers from an unfortunate manufacturing error where his left foot slants upward and prevents him from standing without something wedged underneath it (such as a penny, as seen in the first terrible photo).

but otherwise it's good, especially for the $9.99 price tag.

I was going to post an entry tonight showing off my recently-completed collection of albums by The Cure along with a ranking of their discography from worst to best, but since the final piece I needed in order to do so didn't arrive today against my expectations, I've decided to do something else.

as a sort of follow up to a recent somewhat-tongue-in-cheek entry of mine, I've put together a collection of songs (11 to be exact, 3 that I consider either favorites or notable from each of my 3 favorite albums plus a couple extra goodies) that I feel would be helpful to anyone who might have recently discovered Tegan and Sara through the song they contributed to The Lego Movie, "Everything Is Awesome", and would like to check out more. I'd recommend listening to at least one song from each album, as their style tended to evolve and vary from one to the next.

    If It Was You (2002)

    / "Living Room" / "Don't Confess"
    So Jealous (2004)

    / /
    The Con (2007)

so the indie pop band Tegan and Sara have released a new single from their upcoming 2013 album, entitled "Closer"

    it's

    different

    but good

the emphasis is definitely on the pop this time around, it sounds a lot like a modern radio dance-pop track except.. it has a sort of M83 vibe running through the music, and overall is much stronger and more enjoyable to me than the radio-pop it resembles

I hope they have more of their characteristic pop-rock fare on the album, but if the entire thing was electronic pop in this vein it might not be so bad

is a new band made up of members of Detroit hardcore punk band The Armed and they just released their self-titled debut album for free download (high quality with digital booklet!) and it is seriously one of the best things I have heard this year like you don't even know. so good.

proving once again that he has excellent taste in music, Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski recruited electronic music artist Anthony Gonzalez and his project M83 (whose release Hurry Up, We're Dreaming was my pick for 2011 album of the year) to create the soundtrack for his upcoming science fiction film Oblivion along with Joseph Trapanese (the score composer who had previously assisted Daft Punk on Tron Legacy), and the resulting album has been officially released on CD and digital download as of 12:00 AM EST.

    and it's absolutely fantastic.

if you like movie soundtracks and/or dreamy, atmospheric electronic music I would highly recommend giving it a shot. there's an official stream out there and it's on Spotify for those who like to try before they buy, plus it's currently only $5.00 as a special sale price on AmazonMP3.

for the interested, two tracks (including the spectacular end credits song, which is easily one of my favorite M83 songs to date) via the record label's official SoundCloud:

    - "StarWaves"
    - "Oblivion" (feat. Susanne Sundfør)

sup dudes, dudettes, and wonderful in-betweens

that annoying thing known as life that some people may or may not have experience with is catching up with me and as a result I've found it necessary to cut some things out of it, BZP being one of them

there's no hard feelings or anything, it's just time for me to move on

I'll still probably lurk every once in a while and I may pop back in on special occasions (my 10th BZPversary coming up in a few months, for example) but for the forseeable future I won't be active

if you wanna keep in contact with me I've got a tumblr (scythey) and a twitter (scytheyyy) which I still regularly use. be warned that both contain NSFBZP language and content, however

it's been real BZP, I wish you all the best (those of you who aren't backstabbing sociopathic scumbags, anyway~)

  9. Laughing Man
    NEW VOLBEAT ALBUM.

mixed feelings on the title. it fits with their theme and all, but it doesn't really roll off the tongue and it isn't as cool as past titles like Rock the Rebel/Metal the Devil or Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood.

title aside, it's pretty much guaranteed to rock in every sense of the word.

    so color me psyched.

OH. sidenote. just to make this relevant to people unfamiliar with the band. like all of their previous albums, it's being produced (along with Rob Caggiano of Anthrax fame) by Jacob Hansen, who also produced Cryoshell's debut album and all of their subsequent singles.

    two albums. one day. 09/03/13.

Pain Is Beauty - Chelsea Wolfe
third standard studio album from the gothic alternative singer-songwriter, promises to have more electronic and industrial elements along with her trademark dark blend of folk, experimental music, and trace elements of doom metal. absolutely psyched for this release, especially considering her previous album Apokalypsis is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Hesitation Marks - Nine Inch Nails
speaking of all-time favorite albums, the new NIN is looking more and more like a throwback to the wonderful Downward Spiral era of the act's history, utilizing the same graphic designer who did the all of the artwork for that release as well as reusing the Downward Spiral-style typeface and lettering on the cover of Hesitation Marks' first single, "Came Back Haunted". really enjoying that single as well, especially because it reminds me of a fusion between the more accessible moments of The Downward Spiral (which were few and far between) and the catchier stylings of With Teeth (an album that, in my opinion, gets more criticism than it deserves).

so yeah. September 3, 2013. going to be an amazing day.
  11. Laughing Man
over the past year these guys went from being a band I had a somewhat casual interest in to being a band I consider one of my all-time favorites. in the last few months I've worked to obtain all their essential albums and this is the result. I'm still missing their debut Lost Paradise, the more synthpop-oriented albums Host and Believe in Nothing, and the 2005 self-titled album, although most of those aren't as well-received as the ones I've got so they're not quite as high-priority. I would also like to get their recent rarities compilation Tragic Illusion 25 at some point, probably digitally.

    top to bottom:

    - Gothic (Icarus Argentina pressing)
    - Shades of God
    - Icon
    - Draconian Times
    - One Second
    - Reflection (best-of compilation)
    - Symbol of Life (US edition with bonus tracks)
    - In Requiem
    - Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us
    - Tragic Idol
    - The Plague Within (US digipak edition with bonus track. currently my favorite album of 2015.)
