for the last time, this is NOT something that is open to opinion or disagreement. there is NO CHOICE involved here, it is NOT just a "lifestyle". you cannot disagree with cold hard facts - not without being objectively WRONG.
additionally, people telling you why you are wrong is NOT oppression. how dare you continue to insist you know or face oppression over this. you DO NOT.
Aftershock was a pioneering underground metalcore band active during the late 90s/early 2000s and perhaps best known for featuring several future members of Killswitch Engage, including guitarist Joel Stroetzel, former drummer Tom Gomes, and most notably lead guitarist and primary songwriter Adam Dutkiewicz.
in addition to Adam, however, Aftershock also featured his brother Toby Dutkiewicz on vocals - who, as I detailed here, is now known for being an art director at Lego after whom the Bionicle character Tobduk was named. seems like a logical career progression to me!
still, my favorite contribution to the Lego world that Mr. Dutkiewicz has made is and always will be the
, the song for which he wrote. consider this a Song of the Moment two-for-one special.
since I mentioned the Pumpkins in my last post, I figured why not.
top to bottom:
- Gish - Lull EP - Siamese Dream - Pisces Iscariot - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - 1979 single (the B-sides on this are fantastic) - Zero EP - Adore - MACHINA/The Machines of God - {Rotten Apples} Greatest Hits (my first Pumpkins album) - Zeitgeist (Best Buy exclusive deluxe edition) - Oceania
owned but not pictured:
- MACHINA II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music (digital-only release) - Zeitgeist standard edition - all Teargarden by Kaleidyscope tracks so far (digital-only release) - Batman & Robin soundtrack (includes two Pumpkins songs, “The End Is the Beginning Is the End” and “The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning”) - Zero T-shirt - Zeitgeist “Invasion” T-shirt
no jokes this time and I'll probably keep it relatively brief and casual cuz I'm just too tired
lots of great new music came out in the past couple weeks. there was the new Katatonia last week which is currently my AotY, and then this week new Architects and Thrice both of which are pretty killer. dude at the record store sold me the former a day earlier than the release date which is pretty cool. meanwhile I've been trying to work out a new organizational/storage system for my 750+ CDs and that's been kind of a pain (literally. those boxes are heavy)
also been catching up on this season's anime. Studio Trigger's Space Patrol Luluco is adorable and one of my favorite things in a while, although tonight's episode was kind of weird and felt rushed but still. I've also been enjoying Wit Studio's new show Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. it's a little too similar to Attack on Titan (also by Wit) storywise but the animation is absolutely gorgeous and I'm liking the characters for the most part. Kiznaiver is another thing I'm really enjoying, it's also by Trigger but it looks and feels kind of different for them and I'm really digging the story and the characters. I've also been watching Mayoiga, although I don't know why at this point, since almost all the characters are really unlikeable and the story has kinda jumped the shark. beyond that I've started Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless and Anne Happy but haven't gotten far enough in either to make a judgment yet, and I've also still got a pretty long list of stuff I intend to check out at some point.
and finally (and most importantly), in addition to my continued quest for employment I'm probably gonna start taking art classes soon. haven't worked out the specifics but it's something I'm really interested in doing and I've already found a few options that seem plausible. maybe if this pans out I can eventually do art as a career, that'd be pretty cool
and that's it I guess. idk why I've decided to make these occasional life update entries here, my interest in this place is at an all-time low and I don't think anybody reads them anyway, but whatever
instead of a full collection update, this is just something I got that I find particularly cool.
about a month ago I ordered a pair of CDs by the Japanese rock band The GazettE, imported straight from Japan. today, they both arrived.
on the left is Dim and on the right is Division (the Batman symbol isn't part of the artwork, that's just the reflection of my shirt)
the coolest of the two is definitely Dim, which I got in the 2-disc limited edition. it comes packaged in a hologram slipcase with artwork on each side that changes as you move it.
front: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
back: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
in addition to the standard CD case, the slipcase also houses a CD-sized photo book.
easily one of the coolest packages in my collection.
BONUS: enjoy this framed picture of a squirrel that I have on my desk.
goes for like $50+ on Amazon and eBay, got it for five bucks because of saved-up Kmart rewards points. last one they had in stock in an otherwise completely cleaned-out section of Star Wars merch.
no pictures yet, but last night I picked up Michael Jackson's double studio/compilation album HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book I on CD for $4 from a local music shop, thus completing my Epic Records-era Michael Jackson collection (with the exception of 2001's Invincible which is non-essential and frankly not very good).
here's one of my favorite tracks from the studio album portion of HIStory, titled HIStory Continues, which is Jackson's excellent cover of The Beatles' "Come Together":
upon receiving A Taste of Extreme Divinity in the mail today, I've pretty much completed my Hypocrisy collection. I'm still missing some things - like their first three albums which are different in style and just not as good in my opinion, and both versions of the band's horrible attempt at cashing in on the nu-metal craze with Catch 22 - but all of the core albums in the band's discography that display their unique mix of death metal, melody, spacey atmospherics, and lyrical themes obsessed with the paranormal, extraterrestrial, and horror that make them one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time are represented now.
from top to bottom:
- The Final Chapter - Hypocrisy (German digipak edition) - Into the Abyss - The Arrival - Virus (CD/DVD limited edition) - A Taste of Extreme Divinity (U.S. limited edition) - End of Disclosure (digipak limited edition)
also owned, but not pictured:
- Abducted (2003 reissue, owned digitally because the CD is hard to find at a decent price)
I said I'd pop back in on special occasions and I think this counts
a couple weeks ago I dropped $40 on a copy of Machinae Supremacy's rare, out-of-print Redeemer (Underground Edition) CD. this was an independently-released limited run version of their second album that was only available through their website and has long since been discontinued, featuring a different mix and an alternate tracklist to its more common major label retail counterpart. they rarely ever show up for sale anywhere so when I saw it, I had to jump on it, and today it finally arrived.
as the title states, this is basically a holy grail of my music collection. I'm stoked to finally own a copy.
updated collection picture:
from top to bottom:
- Redeemer (Underground Edition) - Redeemer (Retail Edition) - Overworld - A View from the End of the World - The Beat of Our Decay (rare UK promotional compilation) - Rise of a Digital Nation - Phantom Shadow
also owned digitally and not pictured:
- Deus Ex Machinae (band's first album, available for free through their website) - Origin (compilation of free singles available through their website) - Arcade (compilation of free singles available through their website) - Fury (compilation of free singles available through their website) - Echoes (compilation of free cover songs available through their website) - Jets'n'Guns original soundtrack (free through their website) - Jets'n'Guns Gold EP (free through their website) - Gianna Sisters Twisted Dreams original soundtrack - Epic Fan Pack (odds 'n' ends collection briefly available through their website) - Live at Assembly 2011 (HD live video officially distributed through The Pirate Bay) - "Gerudo Valley" single (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time cover, free single released this year)
band's currently in the studio working on the follow-up to Phantom Shadow, which is supposed to be released later this year. I'll update this entry when the time comes.
so my 2013 Album of the Year, Seattle alternative hip-hop artist Sadistik's phenomenal sophomore album Flowers for My Father, is available to download for free from the Fake Four label Bandcamp today only.
I encourage everybody to check it out, regardless of your feelings on the genre. it's an incredible, beautiful piece of work and one of the realest and most emotional albums I've ever heard.
