One thing that's been astounding me lately is the inability of people to see similarities between the Mistika and their original versions. Granted, they are very different, but many parts (Masks in particular) are not far off at all... Except the Kaukau...

I'm going to start this off with the Hau Nuva Mistika. It actually resembles the classic Hau far more than the older Nuva version, which I think was a great decision. This will be the end of BIONICLE's first chapter and it's good to see Tahu's mask resembling its iconic beginnings.

First off, observe the shape of the forehead. Not the fin or that little hole, but just the forehead itself. It's nearly identical. It has the same rounded, largely featureless appearance we've gotten used to- Both include a small feature to throw off the monotony, too.

The eyes show a great deal of resemblance as well. They are similarly shaped and arranged in proportion with the rest of the mask the same way. The main difference is that the new ones are slightly less down-turned, but I personally like it because it makes him look more noble and less angry, representing his increased maturity.

I don't know why so many people insist he has no mouth. It's certainly not as deep or pronounced as his original, but there's no doubt that it's there. Just look here- You can easily spot the lines outlining it. It's actually shaped more than a little bit like his classic Hau.
Outlined in light green you can also see the slits to the side of his mouth on the original, and also that it has the same amount of ridges on the new one, this time moved inwards and joined in the middle.

I'm personally quite happy with his. I've always preferred the appearance of the Mata Masks to the Nuva masks and I'm happy to see the Mistika's embodying the first collection to such a degree.

I'll do Onua's next... Tomorrow, maybe.

You know, a few weeks ago I was reflecting on the rise of bronies on the internet, and it occurred to me that if BZP ever came back, it would be exactly the sort of place where bronies thrive. Lo and behold, it's back, and bronies litter the netscape. Now, the real question is: what will Greg think of the ponies he sees when he returns?

I wish BIONICLE was still alive, because just think what could be done among the fan community with 3D printing. That Ignika on the front page blows me away. I remember struggling in 2001 to make custom masks out of clay. CLAY!

I always thought it would be so cool to be one of these guys, making masks, taking names, and now that's within anyone's reach at a site like [Don't link to sites with forums. -Shine].

SOMEBODY MAKE ME ONE OF THESE RIGHT NOW OR I'LL HIT YOU
    I'LL TRACK YOU DOWN
    AND I'LL HIT YOU

So I never got around to posting this, but this was my Maya final last semester. I might do the mask and tool and whatnot when I have some free time, but don't hold me to it.

His geometry is really complicated, with lots of Booleans and things. If I turn on rounding, all the holes in his body pucker up like nasty buttholes

Okay, so I know I'm not active on here anymore, but these 2015 rumors are drawing me back to my old internet haunts.

I just wanted to say: does anyone else completely disapprove of this Velika-as-a-Great-Being twist? I remember Velika and the other Voya Nui Matoran being a huge breath of fresh air when they were introduced, because it was a return to the fun, quirky Matoran characters we used to see back in MNOLG times. Why does every character who's a bit of an oddball have to have some secret evil agenda? why can't we just have fun

Anyway, I hope this plot thread is dropped when Bionicle comes back, assuming it isn't just a reboot anyways.

One thing that's been bugging me lately is the way that everyone's complaining about the New Nuva masks. I personally think they all have many similarities in design with their older forms. They may be shaped differently or be a different size, but ,uch of it is still there.

First, here's a diagram illustrating the Miru Nuva's designs made by Aanchir. (In fact, those lines going back from the new version's eyes could be interpreted as highly diminished fins.)

Next is one that I made for the Kakama Nuva. This one uses multiple colors to differentiate on the smaller pictures. (Because many of the things that are highlighted are lines or ridges, I have an unmarked version underneath.)

I don't think a chart for the Akaku is necessary.

I just wrote an immensely long post in the Unpopular Opinions Thread, and I thought I'd re-post it here, because it sums up pretty completely my opinion on BIONICLE's writing for the past seven years. BEHOLD!

At dinner tonight, we got into a debate with my little cousin over the white Ninjago minifigure he was playing with. His older siblings and I pointed out that a character dressed entirely in white doesn't make a very good assassin, but he stubbornly defended it until I pointed out that it could be a snow-ninja, to which he responded, "Yeah, like an eskimo!"

We spent the next twenty minutes trying to convince him that ninjas and eskimos are entirely unrelated.

I think that BIONICLE is channeling the spirits of several dead LEGO lines this year... Perhaps they've hired nostalgic set designers?
Onua's got a UFO helmet, Tahu's got a Knight's Kingdom Mask, and the location this year is the craziest place we've seen since the Slizers and Roboriders.

Ahahaha holy creck. I just remembered for the first time in ages that I'm a lifetime Premier Member on BZPower. This means that, at some point back in elementary school, I actually shelled out forty dollars so that I could start quiz topics and have little icons next to my name. Blogs weren't even an option at the time.

I can't believe these things were once among my top priorities as a human being

Commander Kummervoll is the head officer of a German U-boat.

He’s always depressed, so his crew suffers from low morale. Their submarine does nothing but hug the bottom of the ocean all day, and he never opens fire on enemy ships because he just doesn't feel like it.
