Third day on the job and after suffering several hardships at the hands of the other staff (like the loss of my Flash banner ), I finally have forums to call my own: Storyline & Theories and Short Stories. I didn't really mind too much about the SS position- I mean it's nice and all, but I'm ecstatic about S&T. Ever since I joined the site I had dreamed about one day working there. Finally getting a job there, although angering just about everyone who works on BS01, is probably the best thing that's ever happened to me on BZPower.

Although, I can't quite use my powers yet because Black Six has yet to tell me how they work.

    EDIT: I'm fully certified!

Well, I just found out why no one was posting in my blog. I forgot to approve the posts. :annoyed2: Well, I believe I've fixed it now, and if I haven't, I know how to check for unapproved posts now.

"Helloooooooo! Hola, velcomen, bienvenue, konichiwa, aloha, how you doin'?, yo, and in any language, welcome to LEGO Island!"

    *nostalgic sniffle*

    Ah, the good old days...

So I just figured out how to get the game working on my computer and oh the memories. It's actually a little startling how far graphics have come along since the 90s and laughable at how cutting edge this game once was. All the same, it's still loads of fun. Granted, I've lost some of my manoeuvring talent over the past decade, but I still managed to get a red or a blue in every race (and I remember when my whole score cube was red...).

I also got some of the jokes that just whipped over my head as a kid. Like Dr. Clickitt's comment about being on the golf course while I drive the ambulance and then wondering where the golf course actually is.

I saved the island from the Brickster too for like the billionth time. You'd think they'd have figured out pizza-resistant locks by now. I only lost a few buildings on that one and did considerably better than my early attempts way back in the day when stopping him was just beyond my arrow key pressing dexterity.

Now I have all the game music stuck in my head. Not that that's a bad thing, but it sure does bring back the memories...

So turns out I'm going to have a new neighbour spending the night in my building. Don't know if you've heard of him, goes by the name of Hu Jintao. He's apparently a pretty big deal, like the president of China or something.

Yeah, that's right, Hu Jintao is my neighbour now. B) Granted, I'm in a part of the building that's completely locked off from him and there are police EVERYWHERE so I'll probably never see him, but that's a lot closer than most of you will probably ever get.

Now that I think about it, Mr. Jintao and I have had a lot of close run-ins lately what with me being near both the G8 and the G20. Lot of freaky coincidences here...

Alright, here are some parts of songs floating about my brain that should be made into real songs.

    1) This one is for when you're waiting at the airport for your flight, which never seems to come.

Can we pretend that shooting stars
    In the night sky
    Are like aeroplanes?
'Cause I could really use a flight right now (flight right now, flight right now)

    2) Here's the start of the opening musical number to BIONICLE: The Musical.

[The scene opens just before the start of Quest for the Toa with Takua wandering through Ta-Koro just as the village comes alive in the morning.]

    Takua:
Little town it's a quiet village.
Everyday feels like it's so slow.
Little town full of little people, waking up to say...

    Aft:
    Hello!

    Vohon:
    Hello!

    Brander:
    Hello!

    Kalama:
    Hello!

    Nuhrii:
    Hello!

    Takua:
There goes the farmer with his cart like always.
The same lava that looks like goo-a.
Every morning just the same since the morning that we came,
    To this small volcanic town.

    Tiribomba:
    Hey Takua!

    Takua:
    Hello there.

    Tiribomba:
    Where you off to?

    Takua:
    The wall of history...
I just finished the most wonderful story,
About a Rahi and a Toa and an...

    Tiribomba:
That's nice. Agni! The get the carts! Hurry up!

    Group of Ta-Matoran:
Look there he goes that guy is strange no question.
    He's even weirder than Krakua

    Kapura:
    Never part of any crowd.

    Jaller:
Cuz his heads up on some cloud.

    Ta-Matoran:
No denying he's a funny guy, that Takua.

    3. A Christmas carol (which has definitely been done a million times, but unlike previous iterations, my numbers and rhymes actually make sense ).

On my twelfth naming day, my Turaga gave to me..

    Twelve kinds of Bohrok
    Eleven Toa Mangai
    Ten First year Rahi
    Nine kinds of Vahki
    Eight types of Krana
    Seven Agori tribes
    Six Great Kanoka
    Five Toa Mahri
    Four movies
    Three Virtues
    Two Bahrag Queens
And a Great Spirit called Mata Nui

    4. And if Ron Weasley had any class or tact, here's a song he'd probably write about his wife.

    First time we met
You told me you were Hermione Granger
You could be good for me
I've had the taste for danger

You were smart, but I'd run away
I was a kid, that's what they say
    Heaven forbid
I'll take my chance on you, Hermione Granger

    Da-da-da-dum da-dum da-dum da da da-da dum

    Da-da-da-dum da-dum da-dum da da da-da dum

Production for the next PSA is officially underway.

The plot has been more or less decided (it's top secret, though), so now all I have to do is write the script. For what I have in mind, there should be at least room for a few more voice actors, even if they only get one or two lines. However, once a voice actor or actress in one of my PSAs, always a voice actor or actress in one of my PSAs (no, it's nothing like Narnia, it's just that you'll have a better chance of being in another future PSA, that's all). Anyway, I've got a pretty tight schedule, so don't expect anything very soon- I'll do what I can when I can.

    FAQ:

Q: Will there be another song in the next PSA?
    A: No.

    Q: What?!?! Why?!?!
A: Because there will be two, and I have already written them.

Q: Can I be in the next PSA?
A: When I finish the script, there will be open casting hosted in this blog for any roles I need to fill. More details when that actually happens.

Q: What does PSA stand for?

Inspired by the success of Dr. Bionicle's The Academy, I decided to enter the next RPG contest with an altered version of my epic Wildfire. IMO, it sounds pretty fun and easy to understand- I just hope everyone else thinks so.

For all those interested, the entry is here.

"Were you listening to me Harry, or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?"
A mash-up of this scene from The Matrix and this scene from Deathly Hallows will occur -- I guarantee it.
  9. SPIRIT
Well, after the 25th, I pretty much dropped off the face of the map as I celebrated Christmas and took an extended break from BZP. As I understand, there were subsequent riots in the street due to this absence, but fear not citizens -- I am back!

So here's what I've been up to lately...

Being the careful planner that I am, I went Christmas shopping on the 23rd. The mall was packed and selection was limited, but I somehow managed to get exactly what I was looking for. I got in a lot of driving practice as well, ferrying my sister to her various orthodontist appointments and now that the strike of whatever union gives out driver's licences is over, I'm going to need all the practice I can get to get fully licensed (as you can imagine, totalling two vehicles did not help my confidence behind the wheel).

On that note, I got another battery of x-rays and CAT scans to see how my chest was doing all these months after the accident. And I must say, a CAT scan is much different when you aren't still woozy from anaesthetic. And in other leg-related news, I'd say I'm up to 90% now. I'll be in peak physical condition again in no time.

I got my marks back from last semester as well. Turns out if I had gotten 1 percent more in any one of my courses, I'd still be on the dean's list, so I'm going to see if I can talk to any of my professors about that because that's just annoying.

Well, with that out of the way, onto Christmas.

I ended up getting The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (FANTASTIC game, by the way), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for PS3 (although I like the fact that you can actually get Trophies in this game, it does seem a bit similar to Order of the Phoenix minus a few bells and whistles and unfortunately comes nowhere near the masterpieces that were games 2 and 3; good graphics, mind you), LittleBigPlanet (which I really haven't had time to properly dive into yet), and Scribblenauts (which is a fun little puzzle solver to pass the time).

I also got my sister LEGO Batman and thanks to co-op mode, I ended up playing quite a bit of that as well.

Now, if I might divert your attention for a moment for a mini review of Spirit Tracks.

When I first heard they were making a game based around the steam engine, I was a little dubious, but Nintendo had yet to steer me wrong in the franchise so I decided to stick with them. This game was BRILLIANT. If Phantom Hourglass had a flaw, this corrected it. Great story, great characters, great side quests, great puzzles, great action, great gameplay, great everything! I also really enjoyed Zelda in this game and she is by far my favourite incarnation of the princess: high-fiving Link when they complete a level, wanting to beat up Byrne, freaking out about Malladus wanting to take over her body (and not really caring about him wanting to destroy mankind ), and taking control of invincible metal soldiers. For once, she deserves having the Legend being named after her.

    So yeah.

On Boxing Day, we went to visit my mom's side of the family and we did a present exchange game. I wound up with a mountain full of candy, but for a moment I was in possession of a pair of highly-coveted Canadian Olympic mittens (if you live in Canada, you probably know what I'm talking about). Not that I normally wear mittens, but I would've liked the bragging rights.

Then we spent a few days with my dad's side of the family before it was off to Florida for a week.

Sadly, it was not one of the best Florida vacations we've gone on as the temperature barely ever went above 10 Celsius. Our house was nice, though; easily 20 foot ceilings and a private pool in the backyard (which was unusable as it had no heater). We still had fun as a family, though, doing much more mini-golf and bowling than going to the beach like we usually do.

Well, fun's over and now it's back to the old grind.

The auditions have been all listened to, votes have been tallied, and the newest cast members of PSA #5 are:

    Mantax: Bioni-Cool Jack

    Lewa: Cee-estee

    Tahnok: Swert

    Matoro: Boba Fett

My condolences to Phyoohrii and Toaraga who were very close runners up. Thanks a bunch for auditioning guys and congratulations to all the winners!

Also, a minor production update: I'm now officially back to where I was (from an animation standpoint) before everything got deleted and I've got both of the songs recorded. Maybe this PSA will have a February release after all.
  11. SPIRIT
As always, I seem to choose the worst time to go on hiatus, but at least I get to stick around for BZP's anniversary... for the first time ever... Anyway, I got the prestigious award of blog of the week while I was away and it had ironically been four days since I had added anything to my blog. It made me feel special, but I wasn't really expecting to win that particular prize (see below). Either way, I still have a snazzy banner and you don't.

    [/snazzy]

I was also a little sad to have missed the bulk of the Inika promo, but since us BZPers pretty much know all the ins and outs of the Inika already, it wasn't too much of a loss. The thing that I mentioned above that I was planning on winning was the S&T Contest, but as I agonised about it all week and practically tore out my hair with worry, little did I know that it the polls wouldn't start for another 2 weeks. :annoyed2:

Well, enough about BZP and more about me. On the 29th, my family and I went up to Muskoka to visit my grandparents' house and to celebrate my little sister's 12th birthday (on the 30th) as well as Canada Day. The birthday went without a hitch and my sister had a lot of fun (and cake). July 1st rolls around and so does a thunderstorm (thus, no fireworks). Instead, we had to watch Lilo and Stitch on ABC (most of the other channels being out due to the storm). The next day, my parents left to go back to work and the weather cleared up, allowing my grandparents, sister, and I to finally see the fireworks; perhaps not the best ever, but still pretty cool (as are most explosions).

The rest of the week was fairly uneventful as I spent it in the quiet of semi-rural Ontario. It rained a bit, I went swimming in the river and lake, got to help take down a dead tree, and played 13 games of Sorry (unfortunately, my grandpa pwned us all with 7 wins). In addition to that, I made excellent headway in my Age of Empires game, but I just ended up moving to a new degree of being stuck. I checked an FAQ site and it said the place where I'm stuck is the hardest point in the whole game, go figure.

Coming home was fun, my mom made a huge lunch and dinner for us all and I ate pretty much all that I could short of explosion. The week pretty much ended with an experiment on my dad's part which involved Mentos, Diet Pepsi, and me getting splashed in the face with lukewarm soft drink (if anyone wants the video, please send me a check for $300 dollars... in fact, just send me one anyway, it will help the economy.)

  13. SPIRIT
I just felt this bore saying.

When forming your opinion on a controversial subject, or your world view in general for that matter, I would hope that you can remember the somewhat oxymoronic words of Obi-Wan Kenobi:

"Only a Sith deals in absolutes!"

So yes, technically in saying that, he is calling himself a Sith, but it's an important message nonetheless. Nothing is black and white, might I stress NOTHING at all. What political party you support, what religion you observe, what forms of media entertain you, what people you like, what people you dislike, what scientific theories you subscribe to, your stance on certain laws and policies, what is good, what is evil, what is lawful, what is unlawful...

There are two sides to anything and it is extremely dangerous and foolish to polarize yourself on an issue. Assuming that most people are not completely stupid, there is probably a reason why others are choosing a side that isn't the one you agree with.

You should try to compromise. See things from their perspective. Why don't they agree? Are there things they might be perceiving incorrectly about you? Are there things you have been perceiving incorrectly about them?

I've just been seeing a lot of polarized thinking floating lately and while it is likely that this is because it's only the people with very extreme views that feel the need to bash me about the head with them, I did pay good money for this blog and so I figured it couldn't hurt to remind those who form their opinions rashly that the world is more complex than they would make it to be.
  14. SPIRIT
I know a lot of people use the blogs rather than the forums to showcase their stuff, but that's crazier than crazy.

Blogs are for shameless self-promotion and complaining about random things that no one else has context for!

So I'm not going to post my video here, but I will link it for you to discuss.

So remember that mysterious project I mentioned that I needed Flash to begin. Well, I've got Flash again and I have a preview ready for you:

LINK (Yes, I'm aware some of the words jump. I'm too lazy to fix those, so just live with it for now.)

Now before you go using the emoticon, allow me to explain. Throughout the ages, the rough concept of a BIONICLE-like version of BZP has been tossed about from time to time. Epics have been written, comics have been sprited... But I have a vision for more. If there's a general liking of this idea, what I envision is a large scale project to combine various media into a "canon" for BZ Nui. Writing, drawing, animating, RPGing, you name it. Also, anyone will be allowed to bring forth ideas, making it a real community project.

So what do you say? Is it a good idea or the worst thing you've ever heard of?
  16. SPIRIT
Today I finally finished that Flash movie I told you about (link) and now I can move on with my BZP life. What with the glowing response this movie got, I think I can safely say that I will be making another one... eventually. My ultimate plan is to make a series that continues from where my comedies left off, but I can't start until Little Miss Krahka finishes the sprites for the Director and GregF (but I'm patient and willing to cut her lots of slack because of her generous offer and skill). Since it will have practically every Bionicle character that there are sprites for, it'll probably end up having over 30 members in it as voice actors. Until then, however, I'm going to work on making an über banner so that I won't ever need to put a zillion links in my sig. If I can format it, I might even open up a banner shop.

Life with Flash is good. B)

I refuse to make a group or fanpage on one of those social networking sites, so I'm going to make a blog entry about this.

Do you ever find yourself sitting in class, bored, and you decide to take apart your pen and put it back together... several times?

Let me know if you do so I don't feel weird about compulsively doing it, myself.
  18. SPIRIT
I should have guessed that a day that started with a weevil in my cereal would not turn out great. Yesterday afternoon, my computer got a fatal virus. First it took out the Task Manager (so I couldn't shut it down), then it started to drain my memory, then it took out my keyboard. I might have been able to save some key files if I had refrained from rebooting it so soon. Now it won't boot back up! My dad said he's going to take it in to see if it can be fixed, but he said it might take two weeks!

Luckily, I have a laptop with internet access, but it doesn't have any of my programs or files (including the almost completed episode 12) so expect everything to go on hold until I can get it fixed (hopefully they won't have to fragment it ).

    EDIT: It's all fixed now!
  19. SPIRIT
As many of you know, I'm an acceptance judge in the recent S&T contest and I have to say, it's a pretty demanding job. I have to read most, if not all, of the entries made, most of which, I'm sad to say, aren't very good. In fact, I got to a point where I had read so many that I began to expect random people to save the day in poorly described fight scenes in my everyday life. Thankfully, there were enough good entries that I was able to regain my sanity... well, most of it...
  20. SPIRIT
I finally ordered the Inika today. I know I said that I was going to order them when they first came out on Shop @ Home, but the combination of the S&T Contest and my vacation drove it from my mind. According to the site, they should be arriving in about two weeks because of the backorder, but I can wait.

Now you might be asking why I entitled this entry "42". Well, as all Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy readers know, 42 is the answer of life, the universe, and everything. Now the scary thing is that the price ended up being X dollars and 42 cents. Even scarier, my parents deducted the money I eared this week (see previous entry) from the cost, but there was still $42 left for me to pay. I think that's a little more than a coincidence.
  21. SPIRIT
So this morning my dad got ready for work as usual and went into the garage only to come back inside a few minutes later to report that it had been broken into last night. Some loose change was missing along with random things like a pair of gloves he kept in his car.

Now here's the annoying part: I probably could've stopped this.

My room is right by the garage and as I was up late on the computer, I thought I heard a noise like the side door to the garage opening, but I just dismissed it as the wind. I debated checking it out, but I just assumed that my mind was playing tricks on me. I also probably could've taken the guy since I'm a six foot tall, seventy kilogram, nineteen year old male and there are a variety of weapons I had access to that I could have defended myself with that I had easy access to (a wooden baseball bat and an aluminum cane to name a few).

Right now I'm all jittery with adrenaline thinking "what if I'd gone to check".

And like, nothing important was stolen, we literally keep nothing of value in the garage apart from our cars, but it's just the principle of it all. I live in a supposedly low-crime suburban neighbourhood; people and possessions are supposed to be safe at night. Whoever the thief was, he clearly needed the money more than we did, but all the same, stealing isn't something I condone.

All I can say is, whoever did this better watch themselves. Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again.
  22. SPIRIT
Here's something all you fans of the Toa Hagah PSA (may the topic rest in peace): I'm currently working on a sequalish thing to it in the spare time I have not doing TotA because Dr. Bionicle's computer is not working. I won't reveal too much, but I can tell you that Cee-estee will be in it (as a voice actor) and that it won't have a long music scene like the last one. Now that I'm more competant in Flash, I'm going to try to get the characters to move a little more, but so far, it's only making them look really Italian.
