  1. Hello again. My blog really is growing. Anyway, expect the next two chapters of CAVES tommorow! CHAPTER 4: Home As the jet took off, Marty had one last look at the city that had been their home for so many years. Their whole life in fact. Marty glanced over to see Lucy writing in her journal again. March 23, 2007, during the flight I just found out a strange thing. Seth and I have apparently met before. I was only a baby when we met, but.... I don't know. At the moment I am riding on Seth's private jet. My handwriting is shaky because currently we are going through some strong winds. I guess I should go talk to Seth and ask him a few questions. She closed her journal. "Seth, is it alright if I ask you some questions?" "Certainly," he said. "First, where exactly are we going?" she asked curiously. "We are going to the very edge of North Carolina. It will take some getting used to, but I'm sure you'll like it there," he replied. "I hope so," Lucy replied. "Can you tell me something interesting about your house?" "I have two very interesting things," he said. "One, my house is huge. I don't like to brag, but I'm rich. I made an egg incubator that hatches most eggs ten times faster then a normal hen would. Two, I have a boat that will take us back and forth to a private laboratory on a small island a short way in the ocean from my house." "Wow! I can't wait to see both of them," Lucy replied. Well that was unexpected. "It'll still be a few hours until we get there," he said. "Okay, I think I'll go sit down over there," Lucy replied. "I might fall asleep. Marty, wake me up when we get there." "Whatever," he replied, he was busy looking at the view. She fell asleep, and had a strange dream. She dreamt she was in a dark, damp cave and she was running. But the farther she went, the more she got hurt. By the time she stopped, she was covered in bruises. She collapsed on the ground and...... "Lucy, Lucy!" Marty shouted. Lucy woke up. "We're here!" he said in awe. "What are you drooling over?" and then she saw. There was a large green valley. Through the middle was a river. And built on the river was a house, a huge house. Half of it was on one side of the river, and the other half on the other side. There was a long landing strip, and also a dock, which they suspected was for the boat that would take them to the lab. "Make sure you are buckled in," Seth said. The plane landed, and they got ready to get out. "Don't bother gathering all of your luggage, it will be taken in for you," Seth said. As they got out, they stared up at the huge house. It was made of brick, with tons of windows on all of the sides. They went up to the huge door, and Seth pushed a button. "It's us, let us in," Seth said to a speaker. The door unbolted, and Seth opened the door. Inside was amazing. There were nice looking polished wooden floors, soothing colors on the walls, and very comfortable furniture. The couch was huge, and instead of a normal TV, there was a huge Plasma Screen. "That was the living room," Seth said. "And this is the Kitchen," They walked into the kitchen, which was also very big. There was a large counter with a nice silver sink, a very big island in the middle of the room, and a doorway that led into a dining room. There were cabinets after cabinets. There was a pantry. There was everything a good cook could ask for, which was perfect for Lucy. She loved to cook, and hadn't for at least 10 days. "Wow, everything is amazing!" Lucy said with obvious awe. They toured the rest of the house, which was mostly big rooms with walk-in closets. When they got to their rooms, they stared. Lucy's room was absolutely huge, with the same bed as she had had in her old home. The walls there were also a calm pink. She had bigger furniture, and her closet was terrific. She even had her own bathroom. Marty's room had the same bed and coloring like his old room, but had less posters. He was actually happy for this, because some of them he had gotten tired of. He had a walk-in closet as well. He also had bigger furniture and a bathroom. "I prepared them right before you arrived," Seth said. "Thank you so much!" Lucy said. "You are welcome," he said. "I have some work to do, come to me if you need anything, I'll be in the kitchen. As he walked away, he smiled. It wasn't a "I'm happy to have two wonderful kids here" type of smile, it was a "I have finally gotten a hold of those two bratty kids so I can strangle a secret out of them" kind of smile. "Bruce, they're here," he said into a cell phone. He was talking to his assistant. "What do you want me to do?" Bruce asked. Seth told him. StF
  2. Yes, I forgot it! So sorry! CHAPTER 3: Reunions March 17, 2007 For some reason I feel like I'm being watched. I don't know why, but I think something bad is happening.... like our parents' crash was on purpose. I think that every step I take is getting us deeper and deeper in trouble. Marty and I are starting to get used to our parents not being here, but not much. Today when I woke up, I didn't feel good and shouted for my mom to bring my breakfast to my room. It wasn't until five minutes later that I realized that my mom couldn't answer. I started packing today, and Grandma is going to move in here and try to sell her old house. She says that she is going to look into whether or not she can contest the will and find a way for us to come back here to live. It's a really confusing time for all of us; every time we put something in our bags, there is something of Grandma's there later. We only have six short days to say good-bye to our house. I really don't want to leave. I have also tried figuring out more of what CAVES means, but no luck. I think it has something actually tied to real caves, or a cave. I hope I can find out more at Seth's house. Lucy closed her Journal. She had started to write in it as a way to sort out her feelings, and she was getting more out of it each time she did. To her it felt like she was taking the weight of the world off her shoulders, one piece at a time. She walked downstairs, ate a snack, had a can of soda, and went into her room. She was so tired today, she just wanted to fall asleep, but she couldn't. She had too many things to think about, too many things to dread. She wished she could go back in time and change it all. "Lucy?" Marty called. He walked into her room. "There you are. I've been looking all over for you! What have you been doing?" "Writing. Thinking," Lucy said. "Not much." "Well get up, we have to eat dinner," he replied. "I'll beat you downstairs!" Lucy said. "Bring it on!" Marty said, but she was already halfway down the stairs. He smiled for the first time in days. "Hey!" * * * * * "Where do the little brats live?" Seth spat at his assistant. "Northern California, near Hollywood," the assistant replied, being careful to hide any anger. The assistant was a bald and very muscular man with a flat face. Even though he could literally crush Seth, he knew if he did someone would track him down. "Well make sure we get there by 7:00 A.M. on the 23rd. And I want to take the private jet, too," Seth said. "But they won't arrive until three in the afternoon," he explained. "I know. I have a few.... arrangements to make," he replied. "You may return to your work. And by the way, nice job shooting down that jet, the cops didn't suspect a thing." * * * * * "Oh, nice job getting the ball," Lucy said sarcastically. "We got yelled at by our neighbor!" "How was I supposed to know the old kook was out there watering his garden?" Marty said. "You could have checked!" Lucy yelled. "He would have yelled at us anyway, the ball landed in his yard," Marty replied. The siblings had been playing 1-on-1 soccer, when Marty kicked the ball too hard and it landed in Mr. Kreeny's yard. Mr. Kreeny was a crazy old man. He had gotten mad at everybody ever since his wife died. Lucy sighed. Her brother had always been getting into trouble, no matter where they were, he always found some way to annoy someone, whether by accident or on purpose. "Well be more careful next time," she said. "Maybe, or maybe not," he said. This was one of those times when he was purposely trying to annoy someone. "Stop being so immature," she said. "I'm not!" The argument went on for a little while more, but they eventually just gave up. They went inside and went in separate directions. Marty went to play his Playstation 3, while Lucy went to her room to write some more. She was definitely going to need some more journals if she kept writing at this pace. March 18, 2007 Marty got us in trouble once again. He kicked a soccer ball into Kreeny's yard and he yelled at us. He said he'd call the cops. Yeah, right. On a different subject, I've been thinking about CAVES some more. I said I thought V stood for Vent or Vertical. I think S might stand for System. That means so far it is basically either: Blank blank Vertical blank System or blank blank Vent blank System. Too many blanks if you ask me. Only five more days. Man I really don't want to leave. She closed the little book and walked into Marty's room. He was sitting there playing Spiderman 3 on his PS3, it had just come out the other day and he hadn't felt like playing it until now. "How did I die?! I blocked his attack! Didn't I block his attack?!" he said furiously. "Um, sure?" Lucy replied. She had just been in the room for five seconds and hadn't even looked at what he had been playing. Marty kept trying, and eventually he beat it. Lucy could here him scream for joy from downstairs. She rolled her eyes, and turned on the TV. She flipped through the channels, eventually finding a show she liked, and sat down to watch it. Marty didn't come down for a few hours, and by then his eyes hurt, which was rare for Marty because he was so used to it. Lucy flipped the TV off and went upstairs into her parents old room to ask what they were having for dinner. "What are we having for dinner?" Lucy asked. "We are going to Taco Bell," Grandma replied. Lucy smiled. She loved Taco-Bell, or as she called it, TB. "Marty we're going to TB!" she shouted from upstairs. "Okay," he called back. "Let me get ready first." After he had fixed his hair, he ran back downstairs to put his shoes on. He slipped them on, jumped in the car, and they drove off. They ordered, got their food, and sat down. "Grandma, why couldn't our parents just ask you to raise us?" Lucy asked. "They probably thought that I wouldn't be able to support two children," she replied. "But it doesn't make sense. With the money your parents left each of us, you would think that they would know by then I would have enough to take care of you." "Yeah, it doesn't make sense," Marty said. "I just wish we knew why." "I wish a lot of things, Marty," Grandma said. They finished eating and went home. They got greated by their dog, Fluffball, and Lucy suddenly thought of something. "Marty, I've just realized something. Who's going to keep Fluffball?" she asked. "Grandma, probably," he replied. He hadn't thought that he would have to say good-bye to Fluffball too. "Yeah, I guess you are right," Lucy said. "Seth probably won't want a dog running around." * * * * * "Oh how right you are, dear Lucy," Seth said. He had the same "Fly-spy", as he called it, in the Harrow house. It was at that moment on the ceiling, camera facing down. The reason he didn't want to have a dog around because he thought all they were are just annoying, yapping furballs with no respect for their owners. This of course was not true for most dogs, including Fluffball. But Seth didn't care. He wouldn't let a dog in the house. Ever. "But how wrong you are too," Seth said. "You two are just so misguided," he said to the little screen. They of course, could not hear him, but to Seth that was the fun. He could say anything he wanted, but they wouldn't know. "You don't know what I am going to do, or what I have already done," he said. "And if you did, you would just be a bunch of trouble." The truth of the matter was though, that Seth had no clue what he was in for. * * * * * March 23, 2007, Leaving We are about to leave for the airport. I don't want to leave home. I can't imagine living in another house and never seeing this one again. I am saying the last of my goodbyes, Fluffball, my room (which is almost completely empty except for my bed), our huge TV, our house. We are about to get in the car, and I'm making sure I've got a few extra journals, and everything else I wanted to pack. Here we go, getting into the car, starting a journey we will never forget. The drive to the airport was relatively short. It only took about half-an-hour to get there. Their Grandma made them wait before going through the gate to find Seth. "Kids, if anything goes wrong, you can always call me," Grandma said. "Okay Grandma," Lucy said. "Do you think we will ever see you again?" Marty asked. "I would expect so," Grandma said. They gave their hugs, and went through their gate, in the words of Lucy, to a journey they would never forget. They wandered around for a bit, searching for someone in the crowded room that was looking for them. They saw a man with smooth, gray hair holding up a sign that said, "Lucy & Marty." They walked over to him. "Are you Seth Lydux?" Marty asked. "Why yes, I am," Seth replied, in a nice, soothing voice. "You must me Marty." "Yes, and this is Lucy," Marty replied. "I've heard you were friends with our parents before the accident." "Yes, and I was so sorry when I heard about it," he said. "I think things are going to get better from here on. And by the way, hello again Lucy," "Did you say again? We've met before?" Lucy asked, surprised. "Yes, we have met, but you were only a baby," Seth said. This, of course, was a complete lie. Well this isn't so bad, but that was a big surprise, Lucy thought to herself. "Come on, my jet is ready outside," he said. "Excuse me, did you say your jet?" Lucy asked. "You own your own jet?" "Why yes, I do," he said. He smiled nicely at her. "Mr. Lydux, how long until we reach your house?" Marty asked. "It'll be at least 5 hours," he said. "And call me Seth." [/b]StF[/b]
  3. You know, I don't even know why I say things before hand anymore. CHAPTER 7: Captured! Lucy was shocked. She had looked through all of the other papers, but they were all about something from 2001. Her family owned something named CAVES? How could her family have owned it, and she didn't even know about it? She basically had just solved half of the puzzle. It all fits: Our parents go to Florida for a "getaway". They didn't go for a getaway, they went there for something about CAVES! Their plane crashed. It's just weird, they die when they go to do something about CAVES. Was it a coincidence? She rushed to Marty's room to find he wasn't there. She went downstairs to the kitchen, he wasn't there either. She even tried calling him on his cell phone, but he didn't pick up. How strange, she thought. She called his name a few times, but he didn't call back. How odd that he wasn't in the house anywhere. She even checked the other side of the house across the river, but he wasn't over there either. Had he been taken away? If so, by who? It didn't look like there had been any type of a struggle. And if someone had taken Marty away, you would be able to tell. He's not easy to capture. She went down to the beach on the edge of Seth's land and looked out at sea. The boat wasn't in the ocean, it was in the dock... no Marty. The plane was still there, so Seth couldn't have flown off with him. Lucy started to panic. Could they have killed him and thrown him in the ocean? No, I would have heard him. What did they do with my brother?! She started running, shouting his name. She eventually gave up, exhausted, just sitting there. What am I going to do? * * * * * "Nice aim Bruce... for the second time," Seth said. Seth and Bruce had shot Marty with a sleep dart. They waited for the drugs to kick in, then took him to a boat that they had on the far side of the island. "Thanks, but I wish the sleep darts worked like they did in the movies. But no, you have to wait like two minutes. I'm surprised he didn't scream," Bruce replied. "Yes. We'll have to go back for the girl. She'll scream... but there will be nobody to hear her," he said. Seth looked down at the teenage boy laying limp in the back of the boat. Soon enough I will have what I have been looking for for years. * * * * * "What am I going to do, what am I going to do?" Lucy said to herself. Finally, an idea popped in her head. She rushed through the open front door. She ran to the phone and dialed their old home's number. It rang and rang. Come on Grandma, answer! "Hello?" "Grandma! Listen, I'm at Seth Lydux's house, and I'm in trouble. They've taken-" "Lucy, is this really Lucy? Where's Marty?" "Yes, but that's what I'm trying to explain. I think Seth Lydux-" The phone dropped. "Lucy? What was that? Lucy?!" "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to let you go," Bruce said. He hung up the phone. "You, you, you-" Lucy dropped. She had been hit by a sleep dart, just as Marty had. "Come here, you'll be safe with me," Bruce smiled an evil grin. Lucy, in fact, would not be anything close to safe with this man. She would be the furthest away from safe with Bruce. He carried her outside, with Seth Lydux and the strange man waiting for them. "See? Just as I promised," Seth said to the man. "You aren't as useless as I thought," he replied. They carried the drugged girl and carelessly tossed her into the boat. She rolled limply to the back of the boat. They cared not one bit about how they treated her, just as long as she was kept alive... even if just barely. "When we have learned the secret, we will dispose of both of them. We must learn what they are hiding," the man said. "Yes, yes. Their parents deaths were a necessary risk. They were too dangerous to be kept alive," Seth commented. "I agree. When me and that other dude shot the bazooka at the plane we were afraid it would miss. We just barely hit it," Bruce said. "Nice job on that and shooting the brats, by the way," the man said. "You're in a good mood," Seth said. The man scowled at him. "Good mood over," Seth joked. "We're almost there," Seth said as he pointed to a bare, rocky island. It was completely different from the island with the lab. This one was really small. * * * * * In Lucy's sleeping mind, she was having the dream for the second time. She was running, getting hurt along the way again. But this time it was different. She didn't collapse until the end of the cave. At the end, there was a strange hole in the middle of the ground leading to an underground tank. A huge figure rose out of the water. It raised it's head, though she couldn't see any details. It stared at her and... Lucy found herself lying awake in a rocky cave, but this one was different from her dreams. It was a tiny cave, no room to go far back. She sat up. "Marty!" "What happened? I can't remember anything past me going down to eat dinner," Marty said. "Bruce happened. He shot us with sleep darts. I'll explain what I found out while you were being taken here." StF
  4. So here's CAVES Chapter 6. . . yeah. Whatever. CHAPTER 6: The Secret Lucy was tired. She had been running for quite some time now. She had tried finding ways of losing them, but none of them worked. She finally hid in a janitor's closet and stayed there for a while. After she had caught her breath, she peeked out of the door. No sign of either of them. She snuck back to where Marty and Bruce were, and started to act like she had been there for a long time. She decided to wait until they were back at the house to tell Marty about what she had found out... that is if Seth didn't cause any trouble first. When they got on the boat back to their new home, Seth looked back at Lucy with a stern look on his face. "Tell me Lucy, why were you spying on me?" he asked agitatedly. "I wasn't. I went for a look around and I happened to walk by you and the other guy," she said innocently. "Then why did you run?" he asked. He had just cornered her now. "I-I don't know," Lucy stammered. The rest of the boat ride was silent. Lucy decided to write in her journal what she had found out. March 23, 2007, after the lab Wow. That lab is really hi-tech. I found out something that I don't like at all. I snuck off to try to get some background info on Seth and some stuff on CAVES. I was walking along a hallway when I heard people talking. A man was there yelling at Seth, saying that he wanted some secret from us by April. If he doesn't, he'll kill Seth. They want a secret from us... and even I don't know what it is. By the looks of it, Seth has 8 days to live, unless he gets the secret. If I ever do find out what it is, it'll be the hardest decision I will ever have to make... whether I tell Seth to help him out or not. Seth really isn't happy with me. I wonder what is going to happen now. When they got home, they headed for Lucy's room. She told Marty all of it from sneaking to them to sneaking back. When she was finished, Marty had a very surprised and fearful look on his face. "We have to stop him from both things, getting killed and getting a secret," Marty said. "I know, that's what's so hard about it," Lucy commented. "We have to do two things at once, and I don't know how we will stop the man from murdering Seth after we refuse to give up the secret... whatever it may be." "We need to find out what it may be first," Marty said. "Have you found out anything more on CAVES? "No, I'm afraid not, but I have a few more theories I'm working on," Lucy answered. "You really are persistent on that thing." "Shut up" The next few days went by slowly. They didn't visit the lab at all, and Lucy hadn't written anything in her diary since the 23rd. Lucy decided to visit the library on the 25th. There she found rows upon rows of books. There were hundreds of shelves, each one lined with books on a certain subject. She found a section that had no name and it was covered with papers instead of books. She took down some of the papers, and found that they were research papers. She couldn't tell what they were until she found one thing. Her and Marty's names. This was a printed copy of a search on some new version of GOOGLE. March 25, 2007, the library I was in the library today looking for stuff on CAVES. I found some weird shelf with only papers instead of books. One of the papers was from a search on GOOGLE. In the search box was C.A.V.E.S. There was only one result on that printed paper. Spy.com... Your #1 info website Marty, Lucy, Angie, and Phillip. The family that owns CAVES. CAVES is a..... It stops there. That is the secret. That's what he wants to know. He probably either needs to know how to find whatever CAVES is, or what it stands for. Personally, I want both of those too. Yes, "Spy.com" sounds rather 'cheesy'. . . I literally sat there for 15 minutes just trying to think of something else. . . StF
  5. We'll have four chapters of CAVES today since I didn't get any up yesturday. Enjoy! CHAPTER 5: Spying After they had checked out their rooms, Marty went downstairs for a snack while Lucy wrote in her journal. March 23, 2007, at my new home Our house is amazing. Absolutely amazing. It is situated in the middle of a valley with a river flowing through it. The house is literally on top of the river! There is a dock with a boat supposedly leading to an island that has Seth's private lab.The rooms are enormous, and Marty and I even have our own bathrooms. I'll have to visit the library so I can do some research on CAVES. I'll have to ask Seth about it. I had a dream on the way here. I was running through a deep, damp cave. Every step I took, I got hurt more. My legs wouldn't let me stop, I felt that I had to keep going on for some reason. I got to the end of the cave and collapsed. Something rose......... and then Marty woke me up. The weird thing about it is that it is in a cave. There is a secret named CAVES. See the connection? I am planning on easing my way into asking Seth about it. I don't want to bug him, because then I'd just be annoying. She couldn't think of anything else to write, so she closed the journal, which was almost like a diary. She was writing more thoughts then events that happened. "Lucy, Marty!" Seth called. "We are going to the lab!" "Be down in a sec!" Lucy called. She rushed downstairs. When she got downstairs, she found Marty and Seth putting on life vests. Seth handed her one and she put it on. They headed outside, and went down an enormous hill. Marty didn't walk down it, he rolled. He fell down and rolled, and rolled. He couldn't stop, and didn't until he hit a wall. Lucy ran over laughing. "What are you laughing at?" Marty asked. "I think I just fractured my spine." "And now you really are spineless," Lucy said. They walked down to the boat, and got in while Seth untied it from the dock. Marty gestured for Lucy to come to him. She walked over. "I was downstairs getting a snack and I overheard Seth on the phone," he whispered. "He said something about getting a secret out of us.... and he called us bratty." "I knew there was something up with him!" Lucy said. "Everyone ready?" Seth called. "We're about to leave." The kids sat down in two of the many seats on the boat. Marty started eating Cheeze-Its, like always, and Lucy started to write in her Journal. March 23, 2007, leaving for the lab I just found something out... my guardian is a mad-man. It's not like he's mental, but Marty overheard him saying, "I'm going to get the secret out of those little brats". He was talking about us. I'm going to sneak off when I get in the lab. I'll try to get some more information on CAVES and Mr. Lydux. The best of luck..... to me. She closed her journal and looked out to sea. It looked endless, stretching on forever, until it finally met the sky. With the water and wind whipping against her hair, she walked up to where Seth was. "When will we arrive at the lab?" Lucy asked. "It should come into view any second now," Seth replied. And, of course, he was right. When it came into view, she was surprised. She expected a small island with a white lab completely visible. What she saw, was a rocky shore with no lab visible. Had their new guardian been lying? "There it is, my island lab," Seth said. He looked back at the kids. "I'm not surprised that you are puzzled. That's sort of the point of the lab. It's hidden under the rocks. We had the builders take the island apart, build a lab, then basically rebuild the island. It takes longer, but it's hidden." As they drew nearer, Lucy started to dread coming to the island. Seth could easily tie them up and force them to answer questions. "Where is the entrance?" Marty asked. "Hidden just under those rocks there," he answered as he pointed to a small opening in the rocks on the front of the island. It was so well concealed that they would have never seen it if he hadn't shown them. As they went through the small opening, they were surprised to see they were drifting in a well lit chamber. There was a huge crack to let sunlight in, and dead ahead was a huge building. It had gray colored walls, and everything about it seemed hi-tech. There was even a finger-scanner on the front of the building. "Watch your heads here," he was talking about a huge stalactite that was hanging from the ceiling down. They got out of the boat and Seth pushed his thumb on the button for a few seconds. It then asked him for a voice check, and so he said, "Seth Lydux", and the door opened. "Woah!" Marty said in amazement. "It's amazing!" Lucy said. "Thank you," Seth said. "Why don't I have Bruce give you a tour while I finish some important business." "Okay," Lucy replied. They followed the man named Bruce as he showed them many rooms filled with people sitting at laptops. There were some experimental rooms, and even more engineering rooms. What made them excited the most was the technology. For example, in one room there was a man sitting at a mechanical claw moving equipment from one room to another. In another, there were three men watching some sort of tube filled with an odd shaped object and greenish colored liquid. "I'll sneak away now," Lucy whispered to Marty. "Okay, but make sure you aren't caught," he whispered back. "I'll be fine." As she snuck away, she had a feeling that she was not going to be fine. Not fine at all. She kept walking and heard voices talking quietly. She snuck over slowly and peered over the edge. She saw her new guardian talking to someone she had never seen before. He had black, curly hair and was talking angrily. "I said I wanted the information by tomorrow!" the man whispered quickly. "I know, I know," Seth whispered back. "If I don't have it by April..." He made a slitting motion across his neck. That was Lucy's que to go. She quietly snuck back and..... "Hey, you!" The man had seen her and was chasing her. She ran. And ran. And ran. StF
  6. CAVES: Chapter II is up! I'll be posting 2 chapters a day from now on. This one's shorter than the last, so not as much reading . CHAPTER II: The Reading Marty and Lucy were ready to go to the courtroom by 12:00. They ate a quick lunch before they left, and they didn't eat much of that either. Lucy had decided to start a journal of all of the things that had happened to them over the last days, and would write about what happened to them in the future. As they drove along, Lucy started writing. March 16, 2007 These past couple of days have been horrible. Our parents died yesterday. We haven't been happy since. I don't think we will ever be happy again. Today we found out that we will probably be moving far away, but in a little bit we will know for sure. I just hope it is one of our aunts or uncles we are going to live with, not some stranger. I don't like how things have been heading. Each of these days have gotten stranger and stranger. First our parents die, then we find out we will be moving, and now the strange note that was found near our mothers body. All it said was CAVES. I am trying to find out what it means. I am convinced that each letter represents a different word. I think the V is for either Vent or Vertical. Why didn't our parents ever tell us about this? They probably thought we were too young. Maybe it would put us in danger. Whatever the reason, I am determined to find ou- "Lucy, what are you doing?" Marty interrupted. "Writing," Lucy said with no patience in her voice. "I knew that," Marty sighed. His sister was always like this. Lucy closed her journal. She also sighed and laid her head against the car window. She usually did this when she was about to fall asleep in the car. She was just about to drift off when a voice broke the silence. "Kids, we're here," her Grandma said. They got out of the car silently. They looked up at the tall building, white with long, slender pillars. As they walked in, they looked around. Nothing interesting, just long halls with doors. Once again, the walls were also white. So boring, Marty thought to himself. "This way kids," Grandma said. They walked forward to the first room. It was wide with empty benches on either side. In the front, there stood all of their family members. Aunts, uncles, cousins- they all looked so sad. Marty and Lucy walked over to where they stood silently. "I'm so sorry about what happened," their Aunt Martha said. The other family members all nodded in agreement. The judge came out, wearing long, black robes. He carried the will, putting it down on the judges stand. He read through it and looked up. "Okay, the Harrow family move to the right, the Parton's move to the left," the judge said. Parton was their moms maiden name. "Cathy Harrow?" Their Grandma raised her hand. "You will inherit the house." "Apparently, all of the Harrow's and Parton's will split what money there is evenly." Their Grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins, and even Lucy and Marty looked at each other. "The kids money will be put into accounts that can't be opened until each of them is an adult," "And Marty and Lucy will be sent to live with a man your parents met three years ago," he read. "His name is Seth Lydux." "Who? Seth Lydux?" Marty asked. "Where does he live?" "Somewhere on the East Coast," he said. "It doesn't specify where. He was notified that your parents died. He will be here to pick you up at the St. Maria Airport in exactly one week." "One week?" Marty said to himself. The judge read the rest of the will, and then both families left. Marty and Lucy hadn't even ever heard of this man. And what they had feared was right- they would be moving away. Far away. Lucy sat down in the car and started to write again. March 16, 2007, After the reading I can't believe it. We are moving in with a man that we haven't even heard of before. Seth Lydux is his name, and for some reason, I don't like it. It sounds like an evil name.... but that could just be because I don't want to move in with him. We only have one week to pack, which makes it that we will leave on the 23rd. He lives on the east coast, so I will never see my friends again. Why us? Why must this happen to us? Also, my hopes of hearing something about the strange CAVES note were crushed. We didn't learn anything about it. Zip. Nothing. Numero ZERO. This just keeps getting worse. * * * * * As the three Harrows drove beside a long river, elsewhere Seth Lydux smiled. At that moment he had a school of spies swimming in that very river, and a flock flying in the sky. He even had a spy in their car. In that car was a fly which was programmed to follow their every move, so he will be able to hear every word they say. The fly was completely mechanical, but it looked biological. He had created it in his lab for this very occasion. He had known this would happen for a long time. He had been planning it for a long time. And his plan had started to unfold when the plane crashed yesterday. StF
  7. I will be posting entries for CAVES! Each entry will include one chapter (Excluding the first entry, it'll have the Intro and chapter one!) Lets start: CAVES Introduction Somewhere in a lab on an island near the east coast of the U.S., a man sat at a computer, typing furiously. He had sat there for hours, researching. This man's name was Seth Lydux. He was searching for two particular children in fact. He searched and searched, and then something happened. His eyes lit up. He had found exactly what he had been looking for. CHAPTER 1: The Note It was Friday afternoon in the Lakeveiw Middle School. Lucy Harrow, who was 12 and in the sixth grade, scratched away at a paper she was trying to finish before she got out of school for the weekend. Lucy had dark brown hair that went down to her waist. She was especially eager to go home and finally see her parents, who had taken a trip to Florida for a vacation. She and her brother, Marty, had been staying at home with their Grandma for the past week. Today was the day they got back. Ring! The bell signaled the end of the day. She quickly rushed down the hall and started out the door when Mr. Cethart, the principal of Lakeveiw stopped her. "May I see you in my office Lucy?" he asked. "Um, okay," Lucy replied. She hadn't done anything bad. Why would Mr. Cethart want to see her? As she walked in, she noticed that her brother was in the office too. Marty Harrow had black hair, and was 13 and in the seventh grade. "What are you doing here?" Lucy whispered. Marty shrugged. "Today I have received a phone call from the state police about the plane your parents were riding in," Mr. Cethart announced. Marty and Lucy glanced at each other. "I don't know how to say this, but there was an.... accident," "Are our parents alright?" Marty asked. "I'm getting to that. The plane crashed somewhere in Louisiana. And I am sorry to say that everyone on the plane was found dead," he said. Tears filled both children's eyes. How could there parents die? They were alone. Where would they go? Would they live with their Grandma? Surely she didn't have enough money for both Marty and Lucy. Would they go to other relatives? Would they become orphans? They sat there stunned, until Mr. Cethart broke the silence. "Their will is to be read tomorrow. It will tell you where you will go. Until then, your Grandma will take care of you. She is on her way now," he said, "Oh yes, this note was found near your mother's body. It may have some importance to you," He handed them the small piece of paper. They were about to read it when their grandma came through the door. "Come on, let's go," she said sadly. Marty stuffed the little piece of paper in his pocket. They walked out the door and into their Grandma's car. The ride home felt like it lasted for hours. The whole time they cried; and when they got home they laid down and cried. "Kids, dinner!" their Grandma shouted from downstairs. The siblings woke up, they didn't even know they were sleeping. They walked slowly downstairs. "I'm not hungry," Lucy said. "You've got to eat a little," Grandma replied. Lucy sighed, and started picking at her food. After they were done, they went upstairs to talk. "What I want to know is how the plane crashed," Marty said. "It's probably like any other plane crash," Lucy said. Silent tears rolled down her face. "Well, I'll be in my room," Marty said. Marty's room was filled with all kinds of posters on movies he had seen, bands he liked, and many other things. His floor was completely clean, though. His walls were light blue, and there were two book shelves on opposite sides of the room. His bed was queen sized with plain blue sheets. Marty let himself fall onto his bed, and he just laid there. * * * * At the same time, Lucy was in her room. The walls in there were a calm pink, she had a draped bed which had white sheets, and on a bedside counter stood a frame with a picture of her mom and dad on it. She sat on her bed and looked at it for a long time, until finally she fell asleep. * * * * The next morning, Marty and Lucy silently walked down the stairs and went to get breakfast. Marty had fallen asleep in his jeans. He remembered the note that was found at the crash site and decided it would wait until after breakfast. "The reading of mom and dad's will is today," Marty said. "Yup," Lucy replied. She stared at her plate. "At least we get to find out who our guardian will be," Marty said. "Yup," Lucy repeated. She didn't feel like talking right now. "I'll be outside." It was a cold autumn morning, though she didn't seem to care. She walked over to the swing, and sat there for a while. As birds yapped overhead, Marty walked outside. "When are you coming in?" he asked. "How long have I been out here?" Lucy asked, to her it felt like she had been out here for about five minutes. "An hour and a half," Marty answered. "I didn't know I had been out here that long!" Lucy said, surprised. "Well you have," Marty said. "Let's go in," As they walked inside, they heard their Grandma call to them. "Kids, come inside and change!" she called. After they changed, they headed back downstairs when Marty remembered about the note. He found it still in the pocket of his jeans that he had just taken off. "Lucy, come here," he said. "What?" Lucy asked. Marty showed her the note. It only said one word: That word was: CAVES. There you go. That's the introduction and first chapter of the first book in the CAVES trilogy. StF
