I've lately been thinking about Mitochodria in my spare time (don't ask me why), but I came up with a Bionicle theory: Every cell in Matoran, Toa and Turaga have Mitochodria, which convert chemicals into energy for the cell. In Matoran, energy output is normal. But when a Matoran becomes a Toa, the Mitochodria are put into high gear, creating Toa Power and Elemental Energy. When a Toa exhausts their energy, the Mitochondria must be given time to recharge it.However, in the case of Toa Power (which does not recharge) the Mitochondria gradually lose this high gear state. If a Toa sacrifices their Toa Power, the Mitochondria give one last UMPH, and then switch to a lower energy output, resulting in Turaga. However, the Mitochondria never return to their original Matoran state, accounting for the minor elemental powers of Turaga. What do you guys think?
