Chapter 1

Corevirix, Toa of Shadows

Corevirix...

He blinked, trying to get a bearing on his surroundings. His eyes focused on a black sword on the ground. Curious, he picked up the impressive weapon. Dissapointedly, it felt awkward and heavy in his hand. "Useless peice of junk", he muttered before throwing the sword away.

Corevirix....What was that? Is that a name? My name? The being was confused. He had no memories of his past. No recollection of what he might be. It frightened him. Corevirix...He whipped around, for he was sure the sound came from behind him. To his surprise, he found no one there. Instead, there was something that look like a mask floating in the center of a pool filled with a green mist.Corevirix...There is no sound, he realized. The mask was directly communicating to his mind. Frustrated for answers, the being snatched up the mask. Something changed when he touched the mask. Almost on instinct, he brought the mask to his face and placed it on his head firmly. Immediately, there was a surge a power. This is more like it, he smirked.

He took a moment to observe his surrounding. It was dark, and the only source of light was the green pond. Yet it felt...Good. It was as if the shadows responded to his command. He turned his attention back to the sword he cast away only moments beforehand, and bend down to pick it up again. To his surprize, the sword felt completely weightless and seemed to merge into tendrils of shadows. He swung the sword around, dancing with the flow of power around him.

Corevirixzzzzz... Fulfill your destiny to meeeeee....."Now we're getting somewhere," said Corevirix, with a smirk on the features of his mask.

A/N: This chapter was meant to be short. D/W, I'll make longer chapters, starting tomorrow.

Chapter 2

A Skrall's Name

...Present Time. 1,000,000 years after the Great Reformation of Spherus Magna.

Decadus swore as he bolted down the busy docks of New Tajun as if his life depended on it. This was not an overeaction, as it most likely did. His trip to the multicultral Agori-Matoran settlement was supposed to be a simple task; Get in, buy supplies, regroup at the outskirts. Unfortunately, Decadus was a bit...

distracted

during his mission.

"Arkynahk is going to kill me," he grimaced, imagining the horrible punishment that his Skrall guardian will impose on him.

Make no mistake, Arkynahk was as close to Decadus as those Toa are to their Kanohi masks. It was Arkynahk who found, named, and raised Decadus since as long as the latter could remember. If not for the reputable Skrall elite, Decadus would have died at the hands of the Skakdi pillagers that destroyed his city and murdered his birth parents....

[Flashback]

...100,000 years ago. 900,000 years after the Great Reformation.

Arkynahk examined the blade of his Heavy Greatsword with feelings of awe and self reflection. He had done the same thing every night since the day it was bestowed to him as a personal gift from the Element Lord of Stone himself. It was a impressive weapon, specially crafted by the element lord himself. The blade was weighted in a fashion that altered the balance so that anyone not trained specifically for it would find swinging the sword incredibly difficult, if not impossible. It was a weapon that Arkynahk had earned through multiple displays of his mastery of combat by the Element Lord of Stone's side.

Even among the elite special forces of the Skrall, Arkynahk's skills were considered exceptional. It is rumoured that not once was he ever forced to yeild when he crossed swords with an adversary. Indeed, it was this display of skill that led the Lord of Stone to personally grant his name, which translated roughly into "Unyeilding Sword".He earned a level of respect, even among the Leader Class of the Skrall tribe. Arkynahk never had a taste for war, wielding a philosophy that combat should be about improving onself. Even Tume had allowed Arkynahk to serve as a trainer for the Skrall, instead of participating the the campaign for Bara Magna. In fact, some might say that was thanks to him that the Skrall were such an unstopable force.Yet...He felt strangely at peace now that the Skrall tribe has disbanded. No longer obligated to the loyalties he once swore to the Element of Lord and the stone tribe, he seeked to live a life of solitude. He had always been in opposition of Tume's leadership, and now he was finally able to rest. The past was in the past now. It has now been 800,000 years since Mata Nui arrived. Arkynahk was among the eldest on Spherus Magna, a feat which he owed to his physical conditioning and training. There were certainly few that could rival him his age...Arkynahk reckoned he was among the last on Spherus Magna ever to witness the two Titans that clashed nearly 800,000 years ago.

He had taken up settlement in the caves near a remote village. The world does not require his services now. Spherus Magna is whole again. New inhabitants of various species populated the new world alongside those of Spherus Magna. Of course, he knew of the Toa, Matoran, Skakdi, and Rahi...But there were were species he didn't even the names of that were so bizzare, he'd think the Great Beings were insane for even coming up with the notion of creating such a thing. Then again, they probably are for creating a giant robot. What Vorox-head thought that it'd be a good idea to make a giant robot to fix a planet, with a universe inside it no less? Chuckling silently, Arkynahk failed to notice the footsteps that approached behind him."Help! Please!"The voice belonged to a female. Arkynahk turned around, only to wish he had not. The female was wounded, fatally. Indeed, before Arkynahk can react, the agori collasped. Her wounds, he noted, were not something that a blade or spear could have inflicted. It was that of an explosive projectile, perhaps not unlike those used during the Core War."My village...."They were the last words the agori ever said. Arkynahk mentally slapped himself as he made up his mind."Don't the old ever get any rest around here?" he sighed as he picked up his sword.

*******

The village was under attack. There was no doubt about it. There was bodies sprawled across the ground everywhere. Agori and and the members of the warrior class who were alive were frantically tried to gather up friends and family members and escape. A few of them stole a few glance at the Skrall elite wondering whether to be more afraid of the impressive warrior clad in dark armor adorned by red symbols or the pillagers. However, Arkynahk took no note of the fearful glances directed at him. If he was to prevent any more lives from being lost, he would need to stop the problem at its source...And that means confronting whoever is in charge of this fiasco.

"What in the name of Karzahnii is this thing?" exclaimed a gruff, raspy voice.

Arkynahk turned his attention towards the source of the sound. It belonged to a red being who was a member of the Skakdi species, if he was not mistaken based on the being's reptilian armor design. He was surrounded around two dozen other members of the same species. What caught his attention, however, was the white skinned infant of the warrior-class species carried in the claws of the Skakdi's red one. Judging by what he just said, Arkynahk could guess the Skakdi had never seen

a infant borne of Spherus Magna before.

"Oh rahi bones!" muttered a second, blue skinned Skakdi. "Just kill it, Hezuk! We can't be bother by every single -"

"But maybe we can sell it, or ransom it for money, Zohk!" argued the Hezuk. He raised the infant to eye level and grinned his large teeth. The infant started crying.

Zohk gave an exasperated groan, "Look, who cares what it is, just blast it with your zam-"

"That there, is an infant," interrupted Arkynahk, for he had "He is a living being, just like you and I."

He raised his sword, and said, "Only difference is, you won't be living for long."

In a flurry of movement, Arkynahk began executed a series of blows with his Heavy Greatsword. Hezuk, who was caught off guard, was unable to react in time. The blade smashed into his armor with so much force that it sent him flying off his feet. He was unconscious before he touched the ground. Arkynahk quickly caught the baby with his right hand, as he continued to weave his intricate web of attack attacks with his left.

It was only after being dazzled by the sheer speed, complexity, and power of his swordplay, that Zohk finally pulled himself together. By then it was too late, and more than half of his Skakdi brethren had fallen. It was a frightening sight no less, they were being slaughtered by nothing more than a powerless old Skrall with no elemental powers. Gritting his teeth, Zokh raised his protosteel claws. He wasn't about to lose face to these flesh-beings...Not with the powers he had. Launching forward, he met the ancient warrior head on. He was counting on his mostly mechanical body producing enough energy to overpower the old Skrall warrior. Sadly, it was a miscalculation that would cost him dearly. For even as he lost ground, Arkynahk never yielded his position or took a step back. Instead, he held his position even as his armored feet dug trails into the ground. Calmly, he re-positioned his sword and drove down with the force of his body. The weight of the strike was incredible. The black, stone blade of his greatsword crushed through the protosteel claws and all the way down to the ground, severing the Zohk's arm from the shoulder in the process. The Skakdi gave a howl of pain, clutching the wound on his severed arm.

It was over.

*******

...Back to Present Time

Arkynahk groaned as he sat by the mouth of his cave with the white warrior class infant in his hands. Although he had driven off the intruders, the village had been left in ruins. He had been too late to act, and many lives were lost before he arrived. Those who survived had all chosen to find another, more secure area - Probably one under the protection of the Order of Three Virtues. After all, it's always the safest with Toa around, he thought to himself sarcastically.

What was more troubling was the infant. What in the name of the Great Beings was he going to do with him. Part of him wanted to feed him to the Vorox, a notion that was growing increasingly popular with every cry the baby made. He looked out over the village. The sun was rising.

"Light! Shiny light!"

The baby stopped crying. Arkynahk looked down. The crying face was replaced by a broad smile. He looked so innocent that Arkynahk couldn't help but smile back. The baby pointed towards the beautiful display of light given off by silhouette of Solis Magna. "Light!" he cheered, "Look, shiny!"

Arkynahk knew what he had to do. For too long were his skills taught to those who wanted nothing more than to oppress. Now he had a chance to rectify his wrongs. He would train the child himself. He would turn teach the child to be a hero. He would teach the child everything he knew so that one day the child will surpass him - Become what he never could have been. Arkynahk looked at the smiling infant again, and said, almost to himself, "You need a name."

"Decadus," he declared, deciding to use the Skrall term for 'pure light'. "Your name shall be Decadus,"

He looked down at the boy to see his reaction. If possible, the child's smile grew wider.

[End Flashback]

.....Back at Present-Time

Decadus, pondering on the aspect of punishment from his Skrall foster-father, did not notice the Jungle tribe warrior class female until it was too late. He slammed into her full force. He having endured his mentors harsh training about maintaining balance, stood his ground. She, not knowing what hit her, feel to the ground with a loud thud. Decadus grimaced, and looked over at the casualty he caused. He held out a hand to help her out.

"Oops. Sorry about that. In a hurry," he said.

"No problem," she replied. He took a good look at the female. She was was very beautiful. On any other day, he would have stayed around and flirt with her. However, he didn't have the time to fool around today. Not today. Not when his neck was on the line.

"Name's Decadus, by the way. Sorry, but I got to go," he said, before turning around and beginning to race down the streets again. He was almost out of sight when the Jungle tribe female yelled for him.

"Isn't that a Skrall's name?"

Decadus smiled as he ran past the village gate, heading for the outskirts of town. There were few things in life he was truly proud of. The first was his good looks. The second his ability to beat anyone in a sword fight - unarmed. And the third? Well, how many other member of his species has ever had the honor of receiving a Skrall's name before?

*******

A/N: Arkynahk turned out to be much more epic than what I had imagined.

A/N2: Edited some of the text to make much more sense. Including last sentence.A/N3: Felt that Decadus was too old, even by Glatorian standards. I changed the timeline to 100,00 years ago. Now he's around the same age as Gresh in 2009/2010, which is more fitting for his character. This doesn't change anything plot-wise.
