Show related question

Ok this kind of occurred to me and I am curious what others feel about it.

Would you rather stay current with a show, or would you rather wait for it to get a decent amount of episodes then binge watch it?

I was watching SAO II and trying to keep up with it, but after the second episode of the 'mother's rosario' mini-arc I decided to hold off on it till there was a decent amount of episodes. Also I've been without actual cable/dish since I moved so I'm horribly out of sync with recent television so the binge watching works out better for me.

I think there's some merit to both methods. There's something very fun and engaging about keeping up to date with a series and having the week or so of time in between to speculate and process everything. But binge watching is also a lot of fun because it gives you a clearer picture of the whole and it's a lot more immersive. It also depends on what kind of show it is, too. For instance, for the last couple of seasons of Korra, I waited until the season was over to watch it, and I felt I benefited from that a lot because it's story driven and I could experience all of it as a whole. But say, for a comedy series or something, it doesn't really matter, and in fact you may want to space out the content for things like that so you get more enjoyment out of it over a long period of time.

Depends on the show - for the Mentalist, it pays to watch every week IMO.

Ninjago and Chima go better on the binge watching type thing.

I think it matters whether the show has a continuity or not. If it's episodic, watching every week is good - if its a continuity, binging is much better because you don't have to wait for plot resolutions - they are already there.

It really does depend. For Lost I didn't bother watching until the beginning of the last reason, mostly due to the fact that I wasn't really interested in it until then. Bingwatching it helped in that instance due to how confusing the show was. I'm not sure if it would have been as easy to follow the storylines if I waited months in between seasons.

It's also nice because binge watching keeps the momentum of a show going. One thing that frusturates me about shows with an ongoing plot is that episodes tend to end with a cliffhanger. Just when you start to invested, it ends and you have to wait a week for the next episode. But if you can manage to hold off on watching episodes until you can do so in chunks, it's much more emotionally rewarding.

That said, it can be fun to have a scheduled session where you just sit back and watch something religously every week. It gives you time to formulate your own theories and soak up what you watched before moving on to the next episode.

Personally I do both. I might start off watching a show once a week as it airs, but shortly after that I'll hold off until I can binge watch three or four episodes at a time. Just depends on my interest level in the show.

That's kind of exactly what happened to me with SAO II. Started watching it on a weekly basis then resorted to chunks

It varies for me. I almost never watch shows live (TiVo ftw) so sometimes I forget that something I watch is recorded, or sometimes I don't have enough time the next morning/day to catch up.

Or maybe there's a must-see episode that I'll watch right away. It really just varies based on my availability in the week and what the show is.
