Yay!!!

Second place is like....one of the best things ever.

Thank you so much if you voted for "The Tree House" during the contest! I wouldn't have done as well as I did if people weren't kind enough to go and vote for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Woo hoo!!!

You're never going to get the actual prize for getting second. Sorry. -FN

wall-e, music
Even though it has been out for ages, the Wall-E soundtrack is so great.

Anyway, what are some of your favourite movie soundtracks?

Last day for voting in the final round! If you do vote, thank you so much! (click banner for a link to the voting page)

Pdx Adult Soap Box Derby 2009

soap box derby
The PDX Adult Soap Box Derby occured a little while back, and since my family is really involved in soap box derby, we decided to head up to Mt. Tabor, where the race is held, and watch a bit. It tends to have a really good turnout and some very interesting car designs (especially this year).

The A Team and....well, I'm not sure what they are, but they make me giggle.

Delivery truck and firefighters.

Flinstonesand a Indiana Jones tribute?

Mousetrap and the Red Menace.

At the race, the teams and people sometimes bring water balloons and squirt guns to throw, and this car got hit by a water balloon thrown from the crowd, but unfortunately crashed right after this photo.

HOWEVER. There was one car. One amazing car. Like, this is such an amazingly awesome car that the amazing awesomeness is off the charts.

The LEGO car. Driven by the Village People minifigs. Oh yeah so cool.

It was so awesome! They made it all the way to the semi finals, and I think that might have been the fastest I've ever seen a LEGO car of any type move. style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

It'd make me so happy if people voted for entry number three! This is the final round of voting, so every vote counts and if you do vote for entry three, thank you very much! It's much appreciated! style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

I Am...

Posted by Nukaya , in Life Aug 28 2009 · 26 views

19 now! Or, 6,940 days, 166,560 hours, or 9,993,600 minutes, depending on how you measure the passage of time. So, now what?

I should probably be writing some sort of deeply sentimental entry about the wisdom I've gained through the past 19 years and all the awesome memories I have and how much I love all the wonderful people I know and then thank each and every one of them, but....

NOW IT IS TIME FOR CUPCAKES! Woo hoo!

(not actually mine, I just think they're terribly cute)

We shall see how this day goes. Updates on it all to maybe come later?

Oh and....keep on up with supporting this, if you'd like (entry one). Thanks so much!

(Click, please!)

Please direct comments/critiques/maybe a vote or two in the polls/constructive criticism/cookies (if you have any) to the topic. I'll be grateful for any feedback, especially as I haven't done coloured pencil work in quite some time.

Thank you!

Like, I would sit around my room at school and drink pomegranate juice from these and act really overly refined.

It's funny that you think you'd be drinking pomegranate juice from those.-FN

Soap Box Derby Lego Mosaic

Posted by Nukaya , in BZPower and LEGO, Art Aug 20 2009 · 125 views
mosaic, soap box derby
So this is a mosaic that I made in either 2003 or 2004 that I had sort of forgotten about until I was talking with ChocolateFrogs a while back and he wanted to know what it looked like, and when I was cleaning my room, I found it peeking out from under a chair, so I dragged it out and got a picture of it. Looking at it now, there's a lot of things I think I might end up changing, like the shape of the bottom 1/3 of the shield part, the way the axles and front of the car have a very odd bend to them, the shape of the x, and how the red part of the shield isn't equal on both sides.

My reference photo (see below) that I was using while working on this was a 3"x 3" sticker (not so fun), but what I ended up doing was sketching out the basic outline of it onto the building plates using some sidewalk chalk, which worked really well. The entire mosaic is about 30"x 25". I don't know how many pieces are in it, especially as they're not all 1x1 pieces. Took a lot of digging through many LEGO-filled Tupperware containers to get enough of the darker grey pieces, though, which is sad, seeming as there's only six of them in the entire mosaic.

Please also note the wonders of my dad's old LEGO Bricks which has caused the varying shades of yellow that some of the white pieces have acquired. It just screams vintage.

I designed it based on the logo used by the All-American Soap Box Derby. More to come on soap box derby racing later, as it needs a blog entry on its own.

So, yay! Comments, critiques, anything? I want to do more, but it might make my mom give me that exasperated look if I tell her that I need to move a bunch of LEGO boxes into my room. And I'm not really sure what I'd do next, design-wise, but I really love making LEGO mosaics. They're fun.

Volvos And Volkswagens

Posted by Nukaya , in Life Aug 19 2009 · 58 views
new car
My parents decided to go with the Cash for Clunkers program and get rid of our old red Volvo station wagon from 1990 and use the money to buy a shiny 2009 light blue VW. My mom dragged my brother and I out of the house and we did a quick spin around the neighborhood in it, which was really nice, even thought it was like 10.30 at night. Super smooth driving and such. Unfortunately, it now means I have to learn how to drive stick, so blah for that aspect of it.

ALSO: My mom wants to get a custom license plate. Any ideas? We have to decide by today. As we're in Oregon, we can have up to six letters on the plate, but she's thinking of a name related to the colour blue. We've thought of things like azure, river, lazuli, ocean, (libelle, perhaps? It means dragonfly in German. We have to get rid of the third L, though) things like that (I suggested "LEGO" but she just said "Ha, no"). So, names that are sort of naturey, or related to VWs would be good ones.

summer camp
Some great and rather odd quotes (especially that last one) from some campers this session....

"MASTER CHEIF IS BILLY MAYS?!?"

"If you ever have problems, move to Boston, because everything is normal there."

"People from Canada are cannibals. I know that because I read it in a book."

P. S. Snape Kills Whatisface

harry potter, cake, birthday
In lieu of being unable to go see the midnight viewing of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (which I am ridicilously disappointed about) as I'm currently working at a summer camp and have no way to get to a movie theatre, I'm posting these mini cakes that I made for my friend's 18th birthday last year.

Yay! =D

"My parents are dead, my life sucks, I can't hold a girlfriend, and I'm always surrounded by goblins!"

"Let's bother Snape! BOTHER BOTHER BOTHER."

"Alas! A cornucopia of love!"

"Voldeymort, Voldeymort, ooh, Voldeyvoldeyvoldey Voldemort!"

"Swish and flicker. That's my favourite."

Tee hee hee.
