Oh, AFOLs...

Translation:

LEGO, I'm about to tell you how to run your business as I alone only know.

  • You can't make your own business decisions. Only we entitled AFOLs hold that power, and you must bend to our wills or by God we will throw the biggest tantrums.
  • You made your own hiring and business decisions? Pitiful. Fire everyone, and only hire the people I want you to hire. Like me. I will make only the best sets. No respect for my wonderfulness.
  • I paid a metric tonne to have the original set and now I look like an idiot and it's all your fault.
So Lego, learn from this big mistake. Cater to me personally instead of the market.

(I hold no strong opinions one way or another on the rerelease, but the entitlement that oozes from every word of this comment made me cackle.)

Brickfair VA Recap

Posted by Signal Lancer , Aug 04 2015 · 215 views

I was initially going to write a recap each day, but I turned out to not have the energy required, so here's just an overall recap.

First things first: I am never riding the bus again. It's noisy, the bus rattles like it's being shaken apart, and some dude vomited in one on the way home. There was nothing pleasant about this experience.

The convention, meanwhile, was quite enjoyable. One of the first things I purchased was a big bag of Galidor parts, and boy did I have fun. I even won a MISB Gorm in the silent auction! (I hate collectors, though, so I opened it. Not like its value can go down. :P)

Admittedly, I took my Galidor jokes too far, for which I apologize. I am, unfortunately, not the best at knowing what's taking a joke too far.

Metalbeard was nominated for the Best Bionicle - Humanoid Brickee and ended up winning! Even if I don't (Fiddler was nominated for non-humanoid, but lost to Kayru's Kayru.)

Speaking of Fiddler, this was its last con. I'm not one for keeping things together, and I haven't had its parts available for over a year now, so it was time to let it go. Next year, though, don't be surprised to see a new crab on the convention circuit.

I spent a lot of time with friends/acquaintances I never got to meet before, and certainly had a good time with them. Admittedly, it was quite jarring how different people's real voices are from the voices I read their posts in online. Still, I got to see a side to some of the staff I've never seen before, even if it may have just been because I hung around Andrew because we roomed together. Fun!

I was pretty awkward, what with all the newness, and I ended up having a meltdown on the final day because I was convinced everyone hated me because of something stupid, but overall it was a positive experience. Who knows? Maybe I'll try coming down again next year. I certainly have plenty of plans for MOCS!

(P.S.: Despite what I was told, I made it through the entire weekend and still say it "em-oh-see". I am unbreakable.)

On the first day of Brickfair

Posted by Signal Lancer , Jul 30 2015 · 141 views

hoo boy was today exciting! After a day and a half on assorted buses, I finally made it to BFVA for the first time. I met a large assortment of BZP friends, even going so far as to do what the youth these days call "hanging out" with some of them. I played Settlers of Catan and remembered why that game has almost destroyed my family (and as usual people ended up with far too many sheep). I took part in an early parts draft that ended as they usually do for me: I grabbed all those pieces that seem fun without grabbing many that are more universally useful. Still, it was a win, and I could at least build some little things like these with them. I also got to see my crab for the first time in a year, which is good because I have missed it a lot. (It's probably still the best MOC I've ever made.)

It's probably a bit anticlimactic that, after all this fun and excitement, what I looked forward to most was getting to sleep in a bed for the first time in two days. (Buses SUCK.)

This year's theme is "Love", and if nobody else is going to use this to bring in gay LEGO, then I sure as heck am.

Honestly, you can make this sound like some kind of crusade for justice all you want (I'm going to hope that some of how you worded it is just meant as hyperbole to make a point, though?), but it just comes across to me as being anti-fun and anti-imagination.

There's a time and a place for joke entries to place high in a contest (actually no there really isn't but w/e), but the first site-wide BZP contest is certainly not one of those times.

The first entry offended my eyes.

Well, this was probably in the bottom 3 comics I've read in my life. Didn't make much sense, and some things were hard to read because of the coloring and font style.
