Eh... while I could maybe agree that it hasn't hit that peak again, I don't know that it's ONLY downhill... sets like Wild Hunters in 2005, Cool Convertible in 2008, Sonic Boom in 2010, and Family House in 2013 come pretty dang close. Also you're omitting a number of lesser sets from 2004; that year's house set was pretty pathetic compared to later ones like the Apple Tree House.

I don't know much about buildings (though the 2004 house set doesn't look pathetic; at worst, it's bland) so I didn't comment on them.

 

I wouldn't put Wild Hunter's in the same league as Prehistoric Creatures or Deep Sea Predators, simply because the lion doesn't appear to have the same shaping to it they did, at least in certain areas. (Then again, I'm not a mammal person in general.) The others I'll give you. I guess my scope is mostly on the animals/robots/other poseable things, none of which have gotten to quite that same quality of shaping, color spread, or poseability since.

Titan XP was incredibly amazing for this, and any other time, and I hate myself daily for never getting it.

i wish i got the green dragon but it was in the time where like, 10$ was like "wow so much money" to me (well it still kinda is)

 

but dragons are like one of my favorite things, though nowadays i don't use Lego enough to justify buying anything really (aside from maybe like, a set depicting my favorite thing in a movie, or something).

 

though i do like the older models and stuff, but part of my preference is likely nostalgia (the other part being that there were more pieces, but that change happened... for reasons i forget, but i recall just due to the plastic pieces costing more to produce now than then).
