Jeter Deal And What's Up In Orlando

Derek Jeter's new contract with the New York Yankees was made official today during the Winter Meetings, and once again I ask--Did anyone think he wouldn't stay in pinstripes?

Meanwhile in the Winter Meetings, the Yankees and Rangers continue to meet with Cliff Lee's agent. The 2009 NL Manager of the Year Jim Tracy is recovering from a collapse in the lobby of the Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort, home of the Winter Meetings. The Red Sox, Yankees, and Angels meanwhile all are targeting Carl Crawford, former star third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays. The Cardinals are trying to extend Albert Pujols' contract, and 2009 Al Cy Young Winner Zack Greinke may be on the trading block for the Royals.

So Derek Jeter stays on the Yankees. Big surprise there.

As for Carl Crawford, if he was a star player for the Rays, why are they letting him go? Did he ask for too expensive a contract?

For the Rays, yeah it's too expensive. Tampa Bay doesn't have enough money to keep a big star like Crawford, mainly because their fans almost never showed up. They even gave away 2,000 tickets to the home finale at Tropicana Field.

I don't envision the Rays staying in Tampa for a long time, sadly. The fans weren't there to see a great team, and now what they had of their greatness has broken apart.

Still ...
