you are not clever because you know two words in italian

So I was at Starbucks the other night, buying a bag of coffee beans.

There’s a line, but it’s only three people long, so I’m like “no big deal” and wait with my coffee. It quickly becomes obvious that these three people ahead of me are friends and hanging out at Starbucks. The first two order their drinks loudly, but they’re pretty ordinary. Then the third guy steps up to the plate.

"WHY’S YOUR MEDIUM CALLED GRANDE?" he says in this smug, condescendingly hipster voice. "GRANDE IS ITALIAN FOR LARGE. BUT YOUR LARGE IS VENTI, AND VENTI’S ITALIAN FOR TWENTY, SO YOUR MEDIUM’S LARGE AND YOUR LARGE IS TWENTY. WHAT THE HECK IS THAT ABOUT"

and on and on and on he goes, with this little smirk, and the poor kid at the till tries to interrupt with “well you see our venti has twenty ounces” but this potato is having none of it. Keeps yelling about how smart he is, finally orders his drink, then goes and laughs with his friends about how stupid Starbucks is (of course with lots of needless swearing mixed in for some reason like dude you’re in public).

Finally I get to buy my coffee and the poor kid is so rattled he asks me twice if I’m buying the coffee so I make sure to leave a tip and then I leave but man I just wanted to slug that fetid excuse for a carbon-based biped across his big mouth.

Moral of the story: you are never as funny as you think you are.

Second moral: don't make me say it again please.

Third moral: no.

thank u for listening bzp

This is my life.

Fun fact: when we first introduced espresso beverages, we had two sizes. Industry standard was a short and a tall, and we followed suit. However, American consumers like larger sizes, so Starbucks introduced the grande, then the largest size. Hence the Italian term for large. Eventually that wasn't big enough so Venti and then Trenta were added.

Some markets are currently testing a mini for iced drinks, which is ten ounces.

Now you are also smarter than that guy.

(Also what roast did you get, was it Komodo Dragon, that is my favorite.)

Ten ounces is a lovely size. 8oz is a bit too small (although I don't mind an 8oz cappuccino now and then), and 16oz can be too big (although you wouldn't guess it from how many grande drips I can pound back in an hour).

The coffee I bought that night was decaf espresso (not for me!!!).

But the coffee I'm currently drinking is actually Komodo Dragon! I'm pretty sure it's the oddest coffee I've ever tasted. Sometimes it's definitely too "herbal" for me: I'm pretty plain Jane when it comes to coffee. I'd say Starbucks's House Blend is probably my favourite.

I know the lyrics to Cara mia addio from Portal Two. Does that count? (SARCASM!!! THIS IS SARCASM, PLEASE DON'T RIP MY HEAD OFF!!! (Okay, well, maybe in some instances I deserve it, but not for this (hehe... parentheception... whoa)))

Anyway, my Starbucks experience is equal to buying the mocha and vanilla drinks in the glass bottles when I was in college. I saved the bottles and used them as glasses because broke.

As for my other coffee experiences, I only drink it around once a month to once every two months. We get an Italian roast these days, and it's one of the stronger coffees I've had.

Deevs is a pretty okay guy.

But, sorry, not sorry, I'll take Caribou over Starbucks any day.

Seriously though, that guy . . . . let's just say that "941 of them hurt".

If he had such a problem with it, then why was he there in the first place?

That's what I was just wondering. You can mock the company, but your sorry butt is in there paying them for whatever size you have a problem with...

Turd blossoms.
