Finally did the thing

I've never owned a handheld video game system in my entire life. My family wasn't very well off, and we could never afford them, though we did end up with a Sega Genesis, N64, and a Gamecube. Most of those were because my dad worked for Blockbuster Video back in the day, and then worked/works at a Sam's Club, and got them on the cheap. Also, the Gamecube came with Wind Waker and was a birthday present for all three of us in one go, so I guess it was affordable that way?

I digress,

Maddison and I own a Wii, because I have a job of my own and my own finances and I bought it on ebay. It is delightful, and now that we live on our own again, we've been playing it and I've almost beaten Skyward Sword finally.

But a few months back, she bought herself a 3DS, and I bought her Animal Crossing New Leaf for her birthday. It took her a few weeks after I gave it to her for her to get into it, but once she did, she never puts it down. And at Brickcon everytime a boring speaker came on, her, Becca, Micah, and a few others would all pop their 3DS' out and play. I am out of the loop!

Or was. Fred Meyer was having a sale the other day, so I bought myself a black 3DS XL. And Maddison promptly returned the favor and bought me Animal Crossing. I am the proud mayor of a town called Cepia! I feel kind of like I cheated though, since I promptly visited Maddison's town and picked up a ton of different fruits and she gave me a fishing rod, an umbrella with Spider-web print, an axe, and a bunch of other random stuff. But I'm having a lot of fun, and I made my own flag for my town. It is the Hero of Light symbol from Homestuck. Spoilers. I am a dork.

So hey, if you want to be 3DS friends, let me know, and it could be a thing.

Right now, all I have is Animal Crossing New Leaf, but I have a list of things to attain. Amongst them:

  • Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
  • Zelda: OoT 3D
  • LEGO Marvel Superheroes
  • A Pokemon game (I guess X or Y?)
  • The Smash Bros game when it comes out
  • Maybe a Mario game?

IDK what else, but I've never been a huge gamer and that amount of games right there is like "woah, look at that way too many games you could never play all of those slow down buster" kind of thing to me. Other suggestions?

For the 3DS these are my recommendations:

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

Mario Kart 7

Professor Layton Series

Honestly I could recommend a lot more but it would be a large list as I would throw in DS games.

Eh, I feel like many of the newer pokemon just keep getting worse: Black kyurem is not even counted as uber, even with its terrific attack(mine has 454 ATK). Of course, its defense and special defence stats are laughable. And Tepig is actually the worst fire-type starter now. Despite that, however, the games are still pretty good. I'd say try either Black 2 or White 2.

On an unrelated note, I feel like getting that Zelda themed 3DS that came out in Europe, perhaps just to spite my sister because she has several Zelda games and never lets me play them(and she hardly plays them either). That said, everyone keeps talking about this new console, or that new handheld, or this new PS3 game, and that new XBox 360 game, and I feel out of the loop. Am I the only one here who's content playing my PS2?

That games thing is happening to me, and I've had the system since right near the start of it's life span, so yeah. This year has been notorious for that. xP

I'd be up for swapping Friend Codes, though, and that reminds me that I haven't really asked the others about that either. =/

In terms of Mario games, Super Mario 3D Land is pretty decent, although it doesn't have a lot of replay value. New Super Mario Bros. 2 has slightly more replay value, but only if you're the kind of player who pushes yourself to beat your best times (I'm not, so I haven't played it much since I beat it). Paper Mario Sticker Star is a fun little game, but not really on-par with past Paper Mario games (and again, next to no replay value). Mario Kart 7 is excellent and has great multiplayer. I haven't played Mario & Luigi Dream Team yet, but from what I hear it's excellent. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon has decent multiplayer, and is generally a fantastic game (in my opinion, even better than its Gamecube predecessor).

Other games worth mentioning: Kid Icarus: Uprising is a fantastic action game, and I'd recommend it especially if you're a fan of Smash Bros. (since it controls almost like Smash Bros., but in 3D). Fire Emblem: Awakening was my first Fire Emblem game, and it's an absolutely stellar strategy experience (although I have yet to return to it after Animal Crossing pulled me away). In terms of downloadable titles, Pushmo and Crashmo are decent puzzle games, and Denpa Men is a quirky, original RPG by the folks who made Pokémon Colosseum and XD. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is even better than the amazing Ace Attorney games that preceded it (and if you haven't played them, keep in mind that the 3DS can play almost the entire DS library; it's how I've been catching up on the amazing Ace Attorney and Professor Layton games this past year).

Also, Friend Code? Mine is 0817-4310-5392. I haven't been on Animal Crossing in a while, but I'm going to have to once Thanksgiving rolls around, so maybe I could visit your town sometime soon as well, or vice-versa!

We can be friends! I'm 0576-4386-4501.

Awesome that you can make up for all the game you missed, I know the feeling. Everything Zelda, from A Link Between Worlds to the VC stuff, is a must. Except OoT 3D, maybe. I've never played it but I prefer playing on consoles for games like that. Plus you can get the original for $10 whereas 3D will cost $30 minimum. Pokemon is fantastic, you have to experience it. Mario 3D land is great, but I'd keep it where it is at the bottom of your list.

Of course! Cepia is always accommodating to visitors! Or so my townspeople tell me. They are nice animals.

I've added a bunch of you, I guess I should tell you my code is 3926-5782-0903.

I've played through OoT a ton of times on the N64, same with Majora's Mask. But I want to experience it in 3D. I'll pick it up eventually. The new one is higher up my list.

I don't know if I qualify for this considering I have never owned a handheld, but I will do it anyways. =P

I do know that The World Ends With You, which is a DS game now that I think about it, is amazing. I played through the iPhone port and it became one of my favorite games ever. Off of an iPhone port. I can only dream about how much better the original game would be.

It is fantastic though, and I do recommend it entirely, even if it isn't quite what you asked for. =P

For the 3DS I only have Pokemon X, because I bought several not-Pokemon games for DS but almost never played them. Most handheld games just don't captivate me. *shrug*

Why would you judge a Pokemon's worth, and the franchise's "decline", by its Smogon tier? Then again, you can't follow it too strongly since you call Tepig the worst Fire-type starter when, by Smogon's own tiering system, Charizard is worse. (It's the sneaky pebbles.)

If you're getting a Pokemon game, X & Y is best (I prefer Y myself). And some of the new features allow you to get the hang of how the games work. It's a real improvement. Black and White 2 is also really really good, but X & Y is superior. You can always just get emulators for the DS games (Platinum, B&W, B&W2).

Hahahaha it is terribly terribly nice for situations like this and more amusing than pulling out your phone

Just gonna echo the rest, Pocketmens: chromosomes are the best of the series, and a definite worthwhile purchase.
