Fun With Wings

messing with LDD some more. This started as an attempt to make a character from a game I'd played recently but the wings grew increasingly frustrating so I decided to let it rest like this for now.   This design is only really practical in LDD; the massive amount of hinge plates would make it sort of shift shape. Still, I did manage something wing-like. If I'm going to finish the character, though, I need to keep extending inward to almost a tapering point to match the wing shape. Also, the fles

Quetzalcoatl Doodle MOC

this is mostly run-of-the-mill but these are probably better wings than in any constraction set to date, or at least those made with CCBS (definitely better than dragon bolt's trainwreck)

opinions on courtroom themes from PL vs PW

the English covers of PW1 music: much appreciated, though Cornered left something to be desired   Announce the Truth: Probably one of the best tracks. It had a good punch to it and really set the mood.   Pursuit: It was fine, but something about it felt a little…. off. It certainly wasn’t as good as Cornered, but is anything?   Objection: Mostly just a remix of Objection 2001, but that really worked considering they mainly used it as Phoenix’s theme.   Cross Examination: Before I played the game

Elven Castle -- First Draft

It's only been twenty days since my first Ideas project was approved and already I'm working on something new, inspired by something I never thought I'd be inspired by: the whining of Brickset AFOLs.     Introducing the Elven Castle, a set idea based on the beloved Castles of Lego Castle past, with an elven twist. Much inspired by the works of Tolkien, I wanted it to look less like it was made of wood and more like it was grown from it. The build is very modular and a little repetitive, but thi

1000 supporters on the Fossil Museum!

Over on LEGO Ideas, my Fossil Museum project has hit over 1000 supporters in a mere week! At this rate of support, I could hit 10,000 in nine more weeks! In celebration, I did something I'd been meaning to do for a while: draw up a rough design for the torso print for the Paleontologist.     The eagle-eyed among you probably notice the similarity between this design and my earlier self-minifigure. I freely admit to living my dream through this minifigure. If LDD had the capabilities, I also wou

Guardians of the Galaxy

just went to see it today. it was a fun, entertaining movie with some nice emotion to it. I had my quibbles (as always) but I was able to put them aside to enjoy the movie. I definitely recommend it for those who haven't seen it.

Fossil Museum Update #1: Updated Spinosaurus

A concerned commenter on LEGO Ideas said they couldn't help but question the scale of the dinosaurs. To help people better gauge the scale, I made this size chart. The sizes aren't perfect, but Deinonychus, Stegosaurus, and Apatosaurus all fall reasonably close to accurate scale to a minifigure. Spinosaurus, however, was small enough compared to what it should be that I felt the need to fix it.   Along with fixing the scale to a minifigure, this build also fixes the wonky legs and sparse spine

The Line That Never Went Anywhere (Even Though It Should Have)

In Mask of Light, there is one line spoken by Makuta that seems like it sets up a mystery. He says, "Sleep spares him [Mata Nui] pain. Awake, he suffers."   That's interesting. Nobody ever thought there could be a reason for Makuta to put him to sleep besides a power grab. What pain does sleep spare him? What else happened to Mata Nui to cause this pain?   But nothing happened. Nobody ever alluded to that line, no pain of the sort mentioned comes up. (I suppose Mata Nui's worsening condition cou

A Suggested Fix for Queen Beast

Okay, so Queen Beast has her little butt cocoon, right? The instructions tell you to attach it like this:     That looks OK, but it can be better than OK. That's kinda gappy, and hangs low compared to the rest of her body. How do we fix this? Simple! We just turn the socket 180 degrees.     Voila! The cocoon now presses snugly against the armor on the body and creates a nice bodily flow. The cocoon has sufficient force closing it that whatever you put in her butt won't fall out even with the s

a quick WIP

After the T. rex skeleton thing, Izaak suggested I make a whole bunch of minifig-scale dino skeletons, so I started. I then put it on hold because it ended up being more difficult than I anticipated, and only just now got back to it, with the first almost-completed skeleton to show for it.   The white probably won't stick around; it makes it recognizable as bones, but fossils aren't white. They're brown, or tan, or some rocky color. The final version will probably be Brick Yellow, Sand Yellow, o

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON THE PIRAKA QUIZ

I made a grave error in counting for the last question, meaning unless you made the same counting mistake as I did, none of the answers would be correct. Depending on what you count as an individual set, the actual answer can be anywhere from 19 to 22 (24 if you're also willing to add in the two foreign Piraka Kaita sets) so I apologize for not double-checking my numbers before publishing the quiz. Unfortunately, it appears once a quiz has been published it cannot be edited, at least not by me.

LEGO Octodad Preliminary Designs

Front   Back   Finally rendered some rough images of my current design for a LEGO Octodad set. The minifigs lack most of their printing, since I don't have nearly the skill to attempt it. The only printing applied is the face for the titular character.   It is, unfortunately, a pretty bland design based on the aquarium, the setting for most of Dadliest Catch. The included minifigs are Octodad, Scarlet, Stacy, Tommy, two Marine Biologists, Joe, and the Chef. It's a lot, so I'd imagine if this mad

The Damage Report

The total for my birthday Bricklink splurge came to $113.36, including shipping.   That's..... actually less than I spent to build the Micro Manager. Guess I didn't actually splurge any more than I usually do.   Got some good pieces, though, including a bunch of Technic beams and such in assorted colors, which will lower my dependence on black or grey versions of them, thus allowing me to be more colorful.   I also got a bunch of tan, so maybe I can attempt my Gundam in true Buster Gundam color
