Technical Assistance, I Guess?

Pahrak Model ZX

I don't spend a whole lot of time poking around at all the features on the text editor, so I was wondering if there was some equivalent of the spoiler tags that aren't called "spoiler tags"?

Because the ability to collapse/hide text is actually very handy for condensing long posts out of consideration to others scrolling by, or having an extra buffer to hide my soul-crushing insecurity behind.

But, spoiler tags are for spoilers, and I should probably stick to breaking the rules only once a week.

So, anyone?

I was going to say [collapse=header]body[/collapse] but that doesn't actually work on here, tested it out in a preview post. Aside from that I don't actually know, but there should definitely be one.

Code condenses posts a bit, but the other part isn't so much...

I think it's possible to have a readmore thingy on blog entries, though? Least it used to. >>''

You used to be able to view the forums in Outline Mode, which basically accomplished the same thing.  Doesn't look like an option these days.

Man, I always forget stuff like this. Makes for a chuckle when I'm reminded.

Maybe you can look for an answer on that video site we're not allowed to mention, here in 2002. =P

I'm not the only one that finds the 'spoiler tags are fore spoilers only' rule really outdated, right?

They have plenty of other potential uses and Technic Coliseum would have been impossible if that rule was enforced in G&T.

Kinda. I mean, even BZPStuck used spoiler tags for conversations because that is literally the only way that could have worked too.

On the other hand, I actually kind of like how, even if it's just this one, there's a website where spoilers are spoilers. If things got lax with that it would be kind of a loss, imo. Best solution would be to include another feature that, like Pahrak suggested, looks like a spoiler tag and works like a spoiler tag but isn't (i can't believe it's not a spoiler tag). Who knows if that would be too much hassle to implement though.

I can see what you mean, if people aren't sure exactly what the tags are hiding they might risk it and end up spoiling themselves, but shouldn't context also be taken into account?  Like, what topic/blog post the tags are being used in, what the preceding post(s) say, what else the person says in the very same post?

See, my complaint above is a passive aggressive reaction to spoiler tags being taken out of another blog post I had put up (which is now deleted), and in the bit I had put before the spoiler tags, it should've been pretty dang obvious that I wasn't spoiling any future developments in the Bionicle story.  I want to use spoiler tags (or some alternately-named variant) in posts regarding my personal life and feelings to make myself more comfortable with the process and it frustrates me that I can't.

I wasn't expecting this much response I feel bad for tricking you all with my petty nonsense I'm so sorry

Have you considered starting a tracker ticket for this? Seems like an idea that's at least worth considering. I think it could be especially useful in the Games and Trivia forum (granted, I never ever use that forum, so maybe I'm wrong about that).

I agree that spoiler tags themselves should stay for spoilers. The LEGO Message Boards has "jammers" that you can use for whatever, and it gets really annoying when people use jammers (or worse, long chains of nested jammers) just to hide some spammy message and make you feel like a rube for clicking to see more in the first place. Granted, that could still become a problem with new tags, but at least you wouldn't be thinking something's a spoiler when it's really not.
