PM proto

So, just out of curiosity, is there a proto boost for redeeming a gift code for PMship? I've looked through the topics but I didn't see an answer.

This should have gone in the proto topc, right? Darnit...

Yeah. Oops. The proto part of the post didn't actually click until after I posted it. Hm, well, it's been a few days and I haven't gotten a notification...

I bought someone a gift code for PMship once and they did not receive proto for it, so I don't think so.

May I ask who it was? Just so I can check the warn logs.

Well, the post I linked is well over a year old, but I couldn't find a more recent one stating that the policy had changed. This might be a PM-or-wait-for-B6 situation.

It was Epic Disapprover, but I'm sure you know that he hasn't had the best relations with the staff recently. :P He actually received a proto drop from B6 in the last incident. So... I don't think he particular cares whether or not he gets a proto boost, especially considering he has now left BZPower, unfortunately.

I have been noticing that people haven't been getting boosts for things in general lately, however. Phantom Terror sent in a report and never got a boost, and neither did I when I sent in mine. I additionally didn't get a boost when I renewed my PMshipt recently. I honestly don't care that much if I get a boost, and I actually think you shouldn't receive a boost just for renewing your PMship anyway. lol But I'm sure this is concerning to other people if they don't get their boosts, and I'm not sure how often this is mistakenly overlooked / forgotten. Or maybe there's an issue with the warning system or whatever. I dunno, but it's worth looking into if this is a widespread problem.

The posting of a news report does not guarantee proto - first of all, your name must be listed as a source (i.e., don't forget to mention it in the email!) and even then it's not a sure thing. If there were a precise criterion needed to be fulfilled in order to get proto from news reports, I would certainly let you know about it - but there isn't, unfortunately.

Regarding PMship - even with the addition of the BZPower Store, proto points from Premier purchases are still done manually by B6. Since human error is introduced, the onus falls on the members to (gather up the courage to) PM B6 with a reminder. How often does this come up? It's not too frequent a question that gets asked here in the Q&A forum. I do know that there's nothing wrong with the warning system, though. PMing B6 is the way to go; he has the information at hand and can check if something was missed.

OH I see. I thought news reports and PMship were the two guaranteed ways to get proto. Ok, that's good to know.

The only times I've really seen this happen besides myself is with Phantom Terror and Epic Disapprover, but now I understand why PT didn't get the points, and Epic Disapprover doesn't really count. :P In that case, I no longer see an issue. Before it just seemed like it was happening pretty often, is all.

Thanks! :)

A mostly-related question that I may as well ask seeing that this is still open:

How many proto points does one get for becoming a premier member?

That's two points.

Thanks! That's what I had suspected, but wasn't sure. (Evil plan moment: now I've just gotta get one more proto point through reporting news...)

One more. How do you see how much you have? I remember there was a way to get a numerical value, I just don't know how...

There was a way. It's no longer possible for members, though. Here's the post about it. In summary, the warning point system no longer corresponds directly with how much Proto a member has. To avoid even further confusion, then, warning points - or the numerical Proto value - are no longer displayed.

The whole thing is counter-intuitive, anyway. The more warning points you have, the higher your Proto level - at least until you get to the six to ten warning point range. It's wacky.

Just go by the visual display in the mini-profile to the left of your posts. The bar's also displayed on your profile page. You can right-click the Proto bar and view the file name, which tells you a more logical numerical value. You're at +4 right now.
