Fun With Froyo

I just re-flashed Sense, to use the camera for a QR code, and I realised how much better I like Froyo. Stock Android needs no skin, all it needs before it's perfect is the FriendStream, Twitter, and Calendar widgets from Sense, or ones that function the same. Froyo rules!   Also, I have three days to get a 1000-word assignment in that I haven't even done the research for. How will I get it done!? D= I thought I would be able to shake this blasted procrastination.   Rav

Sent From My Htc Legend

Hey.   I got my new phone yesterday. It's much better up close, in looks at least. I'm sending this blog post from it at the moment... The keyboard is quite easy to type on. , although I am using a different keyboard (called ThickButtons, it's the best free keyboard I've used). Actually, this is quite easy, and im not making too many mistakes.   Well, there's my sorta test/blog post thingy... Rav

Clear Skies

The dust storm cleared up after today. There's a photo on wikipedia of the storm from space, you might have seen it:   http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...3_Sept_2009.jpg - Sydney is to the left edge of the brown patch, Melbourne is around the green tip to the bottom, Brisbane is just under the little bit sticking out from the top right.   Big storm.   Rav

Holidays Nearly Over!

Oh dear. The school holidays have almost abandoned me. Oh how they fleet by, as school drifts slowly closer. Well, I like school, so it's not too bad.   And, yay, QI's going to start airing on the ABC on Tuesday! My dad got a DVD of QI for his birthday, from his parents, and I loved it. It's not, unfortunantly, starting with the first series, but with the 6th. And the 3rd episode of the 6th, too.   Well, that was a rather pointless entry. Then again, this is a blog...   And my computer has

Z Or Hd?

Which one would you prefer?   Spec-wise they match up quite well - the HD has more RAM, other than that, they're identical (although, the Z's processor is underclocked to 800MHz). There's two main differences: Screen size (4.3-inch vs 3.7-inch) and physical keyboard (none vs one).   I'm not sure myself - I like the HD's screen, but I also like a keyboard. The trackpad on the Z would be nice, and the battery cover on the HD is the same as the Legend's (which is a feature I somewhat detest).

Hello, Old Friend

I'm back because I need to sell my sets. It's unfortunate, and I'm very sad it's come to this, but I must, because I'm moving and I haven't any space to keep them. I'll probably stay, because if there's one thing I need now, it's more distractions.   I feel like I have been gone over a year - I came back after the upgrade, but I just stopped coming soon after. But so much has changed, even in the time I've been gone, three months or so. I'm nearly finished high school, I've turned 17, I've rele

An Age Gone By

I love seeing how wrong people were back in 'the old days', ie. the 90's. So you could imagine how fun it was for me when I found this ancient website telling people all about screens. I find it hilarious that there was a time when a 1600x1200 resolution was "Terrible" on a 14-inch monitor. I mean, a DPI of 142 is nothing compared to say, the Retina display on the iPhone 4S, or the 720p HD screens on the upcoming Galaxy Nexus and HTC Rezound, but it's pretty good for a (albeit tiny) monitor. It'

Why!?

I've been looking at getting a Kindle for a while now, and I noticed something very odd - the Kindle seems to be going for more on eBay than it is on Amazon. Why is that? Why can I buy a Wi-Fi only Kindle for $150 on Amazon but it costs $230 on ebay? The Kindle DX is selling for $500 on eBay but $300 on Amazon.   I can only find a single Kindle that is below RRP, a Wi-Fi only Kindle 3. But it's an auction, so it'll probably end up higher. Why is this happening? Why is a site known for savings s

Heaps Of Things To Do

I've had quite a bit to do lately, mainly in the form of homework.   My procrastination says I ought to blog them instead of actually doing them: Maths homework English assignment Science homework Society and Culture homework (done =D) Study for Visual Design Visual Design homework IST assignment (in-school) Study for half-yearly exams next term Engineering project (in-school) Various other, extra-curricular projects, like MOCing, making things, etc. Now that I list it it looks like a lot.  Ra

New Zealand

I just got back from a 2 week trip to New Zealand, and I have to say, the weather was a lot nicer. When we arrived in Australia again it was mid 30's in the shade with humidity at about 90%   The original plan was to go around the North Island for a week, then the South for another, but my mum got scared of the ferry across (It was horrible weather) so we just trekked around the North Island for 2 weeks instead. Climbed Ruapehu (AKA Mt Doom from LotR, it was fun but going down was scary), visit

Holidays And Spoilers!

HOLIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYS! Just thought I'd get that out there.   In other things, the Pandorica Opens on Sunday night here, and I have friends over for it. But I've seen it. So I mustn't give spoilers. This is a challenge   Also I only want to format my text in blog posts and topic starting posts. Chrome Os

Hello   Obvious is my possession of a LEGO USB stick, but I've put it to very good use recently.   I used it to make a build of Chrome OS called Flow bootable.   So I've been trying out Chrome OS this morning, and I have to say, I like it! It's compatible with Chrome themes and extensions, and of course it looks like Chrome. It basically IS Chrome, in fact, with very few differences. I'll do a pros and cons list for fun:   Pros: Chrome's sleekness Themes Extensions Lots of web apps Flash pr

Don't Leave Me Hanging!

In the title, I was, of course, making a pun about high-5s and the current state of politics in Australia. Hung Parliament, which at this point looks like it'll mean a Labor minority government or a House of Reps re-vote. But enough about that. Things have happened recently!   I got an injection (triple antigen) yesterday. It was fine, I had an anaesthetic patch to prevent pain, but all day since it's really been hurting. I had to come home from school because it hurt too much. Stupid tetanus.

Review: Telstra T-touch Tab

First, let me start with this: Whenever I visit the shops, my trip usually goes like so: What I came for --> Tech shops --> Food or home. Since I get so much hands-on with gadgets, I think I might as well do some reviewing. They'll be rather short and probably not too extensive, but, I think, they'll cover the important bits. So, off I go! ---   Specs: Underclocked 768MHz Snapdragon processor 512MB RAM 7-inch resistive touchscreen display at 800x480 Kickstand 2MP rear camera, Unknown

Hello World

Here is a list of things I cared about that happened in the break: Doctor Who (it was BRILLIANT). Two thirds of year 11 (a reasonably good year) (also lol it took ages to come back). I started my last year of high school. I started making an Android app. I decided what I'm doing in university (Computer Science and Chemistry double-degree) My phone is practically destroyed. Android 2.3.2-2.3.7 and 3.0.1-3.2 came out, and 4.0 comes out on Wednesday The iPhone 4S was underwhelming. Steve Jo

Croup

So today I stayed home again (3 school days so far), and went to the doctor (so strictly speaking I didn't stay home, but you know what I mean). I was diagnosed (hopefully correctly) as Croup, which is basically an overreaction on the part of my immune system. That means I'm (strictly speaking) not sick. Which means, probably, I can go back to school tomorrow. But I get to miss out on sport for a while. That's good too   Rav

Noooooooo

My Android topic is close to death. 3 or 4 days to go. D= I hope it doesn't die, that would be depressing and saddening and horrid in all senses. Oh deary me. [/shamelessplug]   I have three days off. These will be spent watching videos, posting, and learning Python. Then in the holidays I will be watching videos, posting, and attempting to build a Dalek.   This'll be fun!   Oh and I got Photoshop CS5 (trial ). It's awesome, I wuv Content-Aware Fill. My Technology Isn't Good Enough

This morning came the release of Ubuntu 11.10, Oneiric Ocelot. I rushed to install it, left in a hurry for school, and arrived back to find it pretty much done (it had to pause to ask my permission while I was at school). So now I have Oneiric. Cool. It brings signifcant improvements. Skype, for example, loads about three times as fast. The settings are much neater, and Mac-like. In fact, it has a bit of a Mac OS feel to it, what with Unity. But that's good, because Mac's user experience is fant

Why Science Matters

I just want to post a quick entry about Science. As is pretty clear, I want to be a scientist, specifically particle physicist, when I am older. The main reason is a strong urge to discover the universe. I have a love of truth, sometimes annoyingly strong in social circumstances. These are the reasons I feel so strongly about science. But I also accept that the vast majority of people don't share these feelings, and the following is why, even if you don't share my love of truth and urge of disco
