Reboot

Windows XP is no more. Thank the Trojan horse. My mobile Internet connection is gone along with it, but at least the public library has an open WLAN.   Ubuntu is great, sure, but it's still a pain to get used to a new operating system and get it all tricked out with codecs and drivers and software so it'll do everything I need it to do. I really, really hope the virus isn't affecting Ubuntu The guy sitting next to me in the library says it's not possible for a Windows EXE file to run under Ubun

So Far From Home

I've been feeling really homesick lately.   (My mother is turning 50 soon, and I'm mentally preparing to write her a letter. By hand! And snail-mail! )   Not only missing my family in Vancouver, but my real home as well.... somewhere far, far from here.... likely much closer to the great central sun of the Milky Way, I would think. Yeah. Really.   In other news, I'm hearing encouraging things about the prospect of an imminent public announcement on the facts about your E.T. visitors. That'll

Character MOCs are basically done. I'm lazy, so please bug me to take pics.   Also, Q is coming over tomorrow. Sweetness.

The Case Against Art

More depressing philosophy. =D   I've often found myself thinking along similar lines, how profoundly inadequate are our symbolic modes of expression, i.e. language and art, when compared to the naturally occurring, genuine, living article they attempt to define and represent.   The symbol ought not to be preferred over the true presence and direct experience of that which it represents, of which it is the merest shadow.   The map ought not to be mistaken for the path itself.   Art = artif

Superstaffie can has superbad staff. NO U This MOC is a combination of ideas from a Dark Hunter MOC, a previous MOC of this character, and ToM's own self-MOC (v.1, v.2).

"what If" Topic Lol

What if, one morning, you woke up in a parallel universe that was identical to this one, except that in 2000, the LEGO Company had scrapped the original concept for BIONICLE and taken a completely divergent path to the present? What might your LEGO collection consist of? What might they have come up with instead? Would it be as cool as what we have now? (Or even cooler?)   Insert blatant fanboy/girl wish-fulfillment fantasy here.   Also LEGO FSM. 8D

New Splash Art

Not much to say that it doesn't say for itself.   Uhm, you might be interested to know that I singed my eyebrows and beard in the course of the photo shoot. Don't play with matches, kids. Do as I say, not as I do.

View Returns

I got tired of the movie theme. Hope to have new blog art sometime soon, as the old sidebar splash JPG is old and winter is just about here. I'm thinking something dark, akin to the style of photography on my BBCC55 entry, in keeping with the time of year and, incidentally, my current mood.   E-dubya, aka Casablanca, has asked a question of his readers that I thought I'd ask as well: do you read this blog? How do you find it (faves, RSS, tracking)? And any thoughts on what I bring to it? Pleas

Lapland Trip Cancelled

On account of the boats being dry-docked for winter.   Excuse me while I work out my disappointment through music and breathing exercises.   Also, it's been snowing like crazy here all day. Not looking forward to winter. The last one seemed like it'd never end! I miss balmy Vancouver....

Name Change Phail

No can do 'till the 17th. Oh well.   As you can see, I've joined the sub-par-movie sub-fad. I don't normally do this sort of thing, but I just so happened to have a particular movie in mind that works perfectly in only such a context, whilst also shining forth the mystique of the number 13.   It hasn't been that long since I watched The 13th Warrior. As cinema, it's terrible. It's an adaptation of Eaters of the Dead, a novel by the late Michael Crichton. I'm actually a bit of a fan of Mr. Cri

~ Q ~

More properly TheQ, also known as InfamousQ on Flickr. I met him today. First time meeting a fellow AFOL IRL. It was a neat experience to talk about all that brick-related stuff in person.   Q is a university student, 22 years old, from the Rovaniemi area, way up on the Arctic circle. He's currently the LEGO Ambassador for all of Finland. He organizes live exhibitions, most notably LEGOPark down south in Tampere, with LP2009 in August having been the third annual LEGOPark, as well as online co

Ballistic Member Interview

As I mentioned, I was recently interviewed by the excellent Takuta-Nui, a fellow Canadian and writer of some of the most amazing BIONICLE fan fiction I have ever seen.     Read the complete interview here.

Letting Go, Moving On

Fireworks at Twilight   Someone said I've been on a roll lately, as far as MOCs go. Well, there's a reason for that, although what that reason was, I didn't know until very recently.   It's called, "Getting it out of your system."   "Going out with a bang."   "One last fling."   The convergence of my BBCC55 entry with my 1300th post special was no accident, nor is it an accident that I am meeting a LEGO Ambassador in person this coming Friday. It's also no accident that, at the same time, I

Google is promoting crop circles today. (In Europe, at least, I don't know about America.) Here are a couple of crop formation images from my Majhost: These aren't even close to being the most interesting ones that have been laid down. Discuss.

This Is Madness!

I got my contest entry built. Took me a whole entire weekend of literally doing not much else. I'm going to need the coming weekdays just to physically recover from that marathon.   Next phase, photography. If I thought the actual build was bad... whew. Out of thirteen experimental shots tonight, two just might be useable. I anticipate much frustration and slow going in the session(s) to come. I'm afraid my camera was designed to be cheap, not to be able to handle projects like this with any ki

It's been a while since I last entered an official BBC Contest. Fortunately, the latest one, just announced, is set to change that.   As luck would have it, ToM Dracone's recent excellent rendition of Administrator Piyufi already inspired me to take another go-round at MOCing everyone's favourite puffin gal. She seems to be my favourite, too, as far as MOCs of BZPower members go -- I've done her portrait in bricks twice already, which is like 10,000 times my average for BZP members. But then, t

Mystery Of The Mystery Piece Revisited -- And Solved!

Back in January, I blogged about an odd part that I'd encountered online. It wasn't listed in any set inventories that I could find, but the photo had me convinced that it was legit. Others elsewhere have disagreed on this point. Theoretically, the original photo could be a careful hoax.   But now, my friends, I am pleased to announce that all doubts have been dispelled. I present incontrovertible proof that this unlikely-looking piece does, in fact, exist:     The elusive Technic Liftarm 1x

Ooooooold -- But New!

Check it!   UPDATE:     Thanks to a tip from a person whose BZPower username I unfortunately don't know, the MOC in question was posted on a well-known LEGO-themed blog The Brothers Brick. My Flickr account was subsequently hit with a flood of people adding me to their contacts and commenting on my pictures. One of them happened to be a LEGO Ambassador and AFOL "community organizer" and also a resident of Oulu, where I live. He sent me a Flickr mail introducing himself and inviting me to joi

White Light

[Listening to: Gorillaz - Demon Days]   OMG. For a second there, I couldn't find the "Add entry" button anymore. Guess it's been a while, eh?   It was nice to be away, and it's nice to be back. I'll stop short of actually thanking the so-called hackers for what they did, but for me personally, their juvenile shenanigans probably did more good than harm.   I just thought of a great advantage of my lazy/relaxed habit of MOCing without hardly never taking pictures: it translates into a huge pool

~ Observer Mode Activated ~

It's probably obvious from my words on this site in the past (and if it isn't, I'm saying it now) that I am a man on a quest. It is a quest for inner power, wisdom, and love, for ever-expanding awareness of Truth.   Far from being straightforward and easy, the path I am committed to following is extraordinarily difficult. It offers many opportunities to lose one's way, and it is trolled by powerful and clever hostile forces that do everything they can to thwart one's progress. To describe in an
