Material Acquisition Rawr

Today I was a perfect consumerist heathen and bought most of the sets I want to get from the first 2010 wave: Tahu, Gresh, and Skrall Stars, Chromastone, Smash'n'Grab (yay Squidtron), and Wreck Raider. I look forward to using the new and funky pieces in the first four particularly. I bought Construct-a-Buzz, Guardian of the Deep, and Fire Blaster, which is oddly named because it blasts water, earlier, so I just want to get Woody and Buzz to the Rescue and my acquisitions shall be complete until

I Need Two Friends

To go with me for Halloween this year. Since I'll be at least halfway across the country, I will need to make some new ones, but the basic principle remains: Our Halloween costumes will be these: Oh yeah. B)

An Arpy New Year

So. 2010. Nice man. Good with kids.   Thinking back, it's amazing and a bit frightening to contemplate how much I've changed over the past year, as well as how many changes still await me. This year I'll be flying on airplanes by myself, going to college, and generally becoming more independent than I have been so far. Even moreso than usual, I'm feeling particularly cautiously optimistic and happy about everything, which is all jolly good. So here I sit, listening to Boston's Peace of Mind and

The Decade Isn't Over

So why do people keep saying it is?   There was no A.D. 0, only A.D. 1; therefore each decade from there on out must begin with a 1 and end with 0.

Happy Festivus!

Let the Airing of Grievances begin! I have collected twenty-three of them, since Festivus is the 23rd.   It grieves me that: 1. It will be a very long time, if ever, until I shall again be able to see the nice pretty girl who worked with me at the pool last night and with whom I hit it off rather well. 2. There is a complete lack of snow here such as to cause one to shake his fist at the world, roll over, and go back to sleep, as I did this morning. 3. People take unserious things seriously

Have A Joyful Christmas!

Add merriment to taste.   I just got home from Mass by way of a 2.5-hour detour at some friends' house and I am going to be sooo out of it tomorrow, haha. But it was very fun anyway so yay! My Christmas is off to a good start.

N'garai Demon

Possibly setting the record for the longest one of my creations has gone between being finished and being posted... In other news, Dr. Horrible songs have been gently wafting through my head for the last three days.

The following are actual case names from US courts. I would have loved to be on jury duty for some of these.

I Have A Ph.d. In Britishness

Did you know that a series of short plays can be written, produced, and performed within one week? Neither did I, until last week. Three of the students in a recent college production were invited to this scholarship competition (or something) in Reno next February, which of course costs money, so somebody got the idea to do a fundraiser for them and I got sucked in by virtue of my association with the theater crowd there.   It wasn't the greatest assemblage, but someone's dad had a great monol

Cuttings: The Cover

A bit about this: The green energy is meant to be somewhat evocative of the Cutter field, a matter-energy matrix controlled by, among others, Anaka (the middle figure). It can either phase through things with minor disruption or else remove them to another dimension entirely depending on the intensity. The other two silhouettes are my main characters, G-Force and Cascade, or David and Paige.

I Love Plays And Thespians

Well, my run with the local playhouse's production of The Matchmaker (the play that inspired Hello, Dolly!, clips from which were seen in Wall-E) has ended. It was a really fun play in all aspects. It would have been even more fun if we had done even half the pranks we wanted to do for the closing performance, but our sage and cunning director issued a strict edict before curtain to the effect that we were not to partake in any shenanigans, which is unfortunate because the, er, younger elements

Signs Of An Abusive Relationship

According to the National Domestic Violence hotline, these are some signs that you may be in an emotionally or physically abusive relationship. Even one of these could mean you are in an abusive relationship.   Does your partner: * Look at you or act in ways that scare you? Check.   * Control what you do, who you see or talk to or where you go? "Stay away from the werewolves. I love you."   * Make all of the decisions? Check.   * Act like the abuse is no big deal, it's your fault, or eve

Cuttings: Musical Influences

Foreigner's Long, Long Way From Home was pretty much this novel's theme song in terms of both plot and theme. There are some lines that just sync up perfectly with the novel's events.   I discovered him pretty late in the game, but Jonathan Coulton's I Feel Fantastic was repeated plenty of times in the last mad rush to hit 50,000.   Dare and The Touch, by Stan Bush, are both wonderfully encouraging songs which I also remembered entirely too late.   I also put together a bunch of Pirates of th

I Won Na No Wri Mo!

As of 1:15am PST on the 30th of November A.D. 2009, I am a NaNoWriMo winner, and I might be really giddy right now if I wasn't so tired. I'll settle for a fatigued, detached sort of contentment. It is now time for me to reenter into normal life and rediscover what it feels like to actually care about things like grades, socializing, and applying to colleges (oops, one day left to finish that essay ._.). There were plenty of good things that came out of this, though. For instance, the 50,118 (
