It's The Little Things In Life

Being a culinary maverick and making some explosive Chex Mix.   Inspiring and uplifting music of various sorts.   Reading a very moving and thought-provoking book.   Spending time with wild and crazy little siblings.   A girl smiling at you.   Being reminded that you are loved.   And of course, funny pictures on the Internet:   That, against all the generic praise spam in the BBC, constant reminders that IE does not have Firefox's keyboard shortcuts, physical ailments, and the whole gam

Here's to a father, teacher, and one of the best builders the Lego community has ever known. You will be missed.

No, Seven!

I just realized I've been a BZP member for longer than some of its members have been alive. O_O Thanks to some of you for continuing to make this a sufficiently interesting place to engage my attention for however long.

Weird Names, Part 2

Okay, multiple-choice quiz this time.   "Cravixtha" is:   {A} The name of one of Jinzo's Bionicle MOCs   {B} A Greek word meaning "to refute" or "to rebut"   {C} a name I made up after two cans of Mountain Dew and too much free Lego time   {D} apparently the name of the daughter of some people who went to the same university as my parents   Arpy

Accio Turkey

My Thanksgiving was quite nice.   I didn't go to my grandfather's house with the rest of my family because I had to work, but this was totally all right because it meant I could sleep in, eat ice cream, write my novel, and not have to be trapped in a van for hours with about nine other people. I might have been content to just stay at home until work, but the parents of two of my friends felt sorry for me or something and invited me over for lunch/dinner, never mind that both of those friends

Deep Thought

Is the plural of dormouse dormice?   Why don't we use plastic for coins instead of metal?   Will you go read the CC4 entries and vote for them when the time comes?   Will I really be able to follow through on this English/Theatre Arts double major?   And why haven't I been appreciating what I have in real life more? :3

Casino Royale

Picture this: You're standing in line for the opening of Casino Royale. Suddenly a black car drives up, the James Bond theme blaring from its speakers. A guy in a black tuxedo steps out, with two Bond girls on either side of him. As they walk past, you realize that the red hair on one of the Bond girls belongs to one of your friends. In fact, it is your friend. What do you do?   Arpy   (Note: The above scenario is purely hypothetical. Although my frend did indeed dress up as a Bond girl, I was

An Arpy New Year

So. 2010. Nice man. Good with kids.   Thinking back, it's amazing and a bit frightening to contemplate how much I've changed over the past year, as well as how many changes still await me. This year I'll be flying on airplanes by myself, going to college, and generally becoming more independent than I have been so far. Even moreso than usual, I'm feeling particularly cautiously optimistic and happy about everything, which is all jolly good. So here I sit, listening to Boston's Peace of Mind and

Kablooie!

That is the word I have chosen for today's blog entry. Now, for the subject: Spork-wielding llama pirates. Ha! I'm actually kidding there. I fail to understand the obsession with llamas, penguins, sporks, etc. Pirates, I can understand.   Arrrrghpy

Ghostly Turtles With Slimy Teeth Are Attacking!

No, the title has nothing to do with this post. I was just being, how-you-say, random?   Anyway, the LGD polls are up, and although I'm in third place, it's only by ten votes as I write this, so there's still hope for my little base. If people voted based on whether the bases had living quarters and a flushing lever for the toilet, my MOC would easily win, but sadly we do not live in such enlightened times. Now, go and vote in the polls!   Arpy

The Dangers Mass-pming Poses To A Peaceful Pureblood Society

I’ve heard of at least three incidences of mass-PMing influencing the vote in this latest contest, and I don’t much care for it.   In any BBCC, there are cases where a really good MOC is in a poll where it outshines the rest. There are also polls with no clear winner, where the voting should be more open to subjective tastes. In both cases, mass-PMing can affect the vote, narrowing and maybe even surpassing the gap between a loverly MOC and that of a mass-PMer, or else that between two fairly e

Maybe There's Something To Pacifism After All...

Semifinals? OMGosh! Anyway, as I may or may not have mentioned, when my cousin was over I built a few MOCs using parts from his collection. It was pretty much a win-win situation, as he got to return home and wow his friends with comparatively awesome MOCs, and I got to play around with an unfamiliar parts palette, albeit an extremely limited one (almost entirely '06-07 sets, and not a 1 x 2 liftarm in the lot). Regardless, I think I did pretty well. Rather than make a topic for them, I've deci

Illogicality To The Max

(The following weirdness escaped from my brain while working on a writing assignment. Only the second sentence has anything to do with the actual assignment. I think my subconscious might be trying to tell me something here, but who knows?)   Directions: First, try a sauteed orangutan, seasoned with purple rain and baked in a plastic trash bag for four hours at maximum heat. If the problem persists, let a mob boss or supervisor know, but do not react to the person bothering you with snarky com

You May Recall

Countless aeons ago, I took to flipping my blog entries and whatnot through internet translators from English back to English by way of five or so other languages. Well, now I've found a utility to do that for me automatically, and put my blog name and subtitle through to rather amusing results. And then I did it with this entry: Innumerevoli? O.o

I Have A Ph.d. In Britishness

Did you know that a series of short plays can be written, produced, and performed within one week? Neither did I, until last week. Three of the students in a recent college production were invited to this scholarship competition (or something) in Reno next February, which of course costs money, so somebody got the idea to do a fundraiser for them and I got sucked in by virtue of my association with the theater crowd there.   It wasn't the greatest assemblage, but someone's dad had a great monol

Nanorawr.

So I was totally apathetic towards NaNo and was still seriously considering not doing it when at 2pm, amidst an avalanche of Spanish homework, one of my main characters demanded to make her feelings on being trapped, cloned, and shot at on an alternate Earth known to the other. Now I've scraped out the prerequisite 1667-and-a-bit and am shortly going to sleep. I'd say let the madness begin, but it kind of already has. So you can run and tell that, etc.   Also, despite the fact that it is not re

#46

I realized I hadn't actually blogged my entry yet... Then I realized I haven't got all the parts I need yet.   *hopes his order arrives before deadline*   Suffice it to say that it is quite original, has a reasonably spiffy color scheme, and even has something which could conceivably be labeled a function...   Plus, it helps that I've got a cute girl lined up to model it.   Arpy

Stuff And Nonsense

*dusts off blog*   So yeah, life goes on. Over the past eighteen (eighteen!?!) days, I beat up some more criminals, got in a really cool bar fight, headlined a charity gala in DC, and foiled a terrorist plot to blow up the Space Needle.   ...Oh, unembellished version? Well, I attended some sort of college orientation (would have been much more nicer if it hadn't been up to only me and this other girl to provide direction for the entire scavenger hunt team), got some excellent Spanish practice

Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquistion!

No, no, apart from that. Well, I have three MOCs for y'all, I decided to hold off on posting Patuara and Kamu because I've been extremely busy today and I don't want to spend all night uploading pics to Brickshelf. Anyway, I present the Arcturan Mega-Crab and the Carfrax Cloudflitter, and also (in a separate topic due to its Bionicleness) the Cwulzendan Swamp Flagellate. These guys are for a creature contest on another Lego site, but I thought I'd share them with you as well.   Share And Enjoy!

Um, Cf?

I forgot about Towel Day. I now have only a few hours in which to redeem myself. CURSE YOU AQUASCUM!!! Um. Now that I've got that out of my system, I'll post my final creation, the Twiddly Bird. It is not a serious MOC. I was definitely feeling the constraints of my cousin's collection after building Skirdox and Zhavoh, and this was built purely for the sheer unadulterated heck of it. The Twiddly Bird is a quite unremarkable bird in all respects except one. It flitters about making a high-pitc
