Free Agents

With Cliff Lee's contract ending, we already have an ALCS rematch between the Rangers and Yankees. The Rangers will surely give a healthily-sized offer, along with some southern hospitality vs. Bronx hostility that Mrs. Lee received, which will clearly hurt New York's chances of obtaining the best postseason pitcher of the past two years. The Yankees on the other hand, will surely be the highest bidders, but they know that Cliff Lee likes Texas, and they also know the Mrs. Lee doesn't like New Y

Base Blog: Hot Stove

Well, the World Series is over, the Giants are MLB Champions, and now as San Francisco celebrates, the focus of baseball turns to free agency, and to the MLB awards. Big names are on the market, such as the greatest of the postseason pitchers, Cliff Lee, and the man who is widely considered the best player in baseball, Albert Pujols. (Although both the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals will be trying to resign their respective stars) In addition, the winner of some close award races duri

Thaaaat's All Folks!

Well, Yogi Berra used to say   But it'll take some Texas-sized baseball for the Rangers to come back. While it's more likely they'll win Game 5, with Cliff Lee on the mound, they'd still have to beat up on San Francisco's most consistent pitcher, Matt Cain, in game 6, in order to force game 7. And then in game 7, anything can happen, but first there needs to be Rangers wins in games 6 and 5.   Anyhow, in the meantime, let's get ready for November baseball.

Giants Lead N L C S 2-1

San Francisco took the lead.   That's pretty much all that needs to be said, since Neither pitcher really let much happen. Even with the three runs Hamels gave up.   Next round is in San Fran tomorrow--Blanton vs. Bumgarner. My prediction? Giants take 3-1 lead, before the Phillies force game 7 between Hamels and Cain.

Oh Yeah, I Remember How To Get You Out...

...says Cliff Lee as he dominates the Yankees again, just as he did against them in last year's World Series with the Phillies, and all with only a very shallow lead. The only reason he didn't pitch the complete game was that the Rangers finally scored six more runs, giving Texas an eight-run lead deep in the heart of Texas New York City. For that reason, Ron Washington decided to let ROY candidate Neftali Feliz pitch the ninth, and he also dominated for that one brief outing, giving Texas a 2-1

I Apologize, Giants Fans

Might I say that you have a very good chance after all, and if you win tonight, the Giants have it in the bag.   I did not expect Cliff Lee to just fall apart like he did last night. The Rangers now have to have big, big outings from Wilson, Lewis, and Lee the second time around, or else the Giants will easily take advantage of the home-field advantage the All-Star Game in Anaheim got them.   However, I'm still guessing Rangers in 6, but it's now very likely that the Giants could win in the sa

I Find It Ironic That...

...the Yankee fans seem to be accusing the Rangers of "buying" Cliff Lee, and claiming it's the only reason the Rangers are winning the series, and that the Yankees should have Lee in a fair world.   It sounds like how everyone else describes the Yankees.   I don't believe that a team can "buy a championship" because the team is just that--a team, and anyone they trade for at the deadline is a part of that team. I don't believe that the Yankees "bought" any of their 27 championships, and I don

My List For Santa

I don't actually write any, but if I did, this is what it would be.   1) EA Sports NHL '11 for XBOX 360   2) 2010 Stanley Cup Champions DVD. So I can watch the games again.   3) Tickets to the Cubs and Blackhawks   4) ???   5) PROFIT     And it would be addressed to North Pole, Alaska, just so you know, SPIRIT.

The Problem With Most Sports Fans...

Is that they always think they know more than the folks in charge. Cubs fans all over Chicago are whining that the Cubs didn't hire Ryno. Now I like Ryno, and I don't think it would have been a bad idea to put him as the manager of the Cubs, but I also think that Quade was a better move for three reasons.   1) He's been working as a coach and manager for five times as long as Ryno.   2) He showed he can work with this team during his short time as manager last year.   3) The players all wante

Both Chicago First Base Positions Decided

On the South Side, first base will belong once more to Paul Konerko, while Carlos Pena is taking a trip from Tampa Bay to the North Side. Konkerko will continue to play for the White Sox team that has had him on their roster for more than a decade, while Pena will return to the hitting coach he worked with in Texas, Rudy Jaramillo. Konerko will be trying to keep up what he did in 2010, and continue to serve as a South Side icon, while Pena will attempt to bounce back from a season with a .196 av
