Hopefully he'll be good enough to put a fire under Marmol. Or howzabout he just pitches well enough that it doesn't matter what Marmol does? Then again, i doubt the Cubs will really be in any closing opportunities this year anyway.
Yep. The team that just traded for Adrian Gonzalez now has Carl Crawford as well.
The Yankees are old, the Rays are being torn apart, the Blue Jays are not an elite team, and the O's stink. (Or at least they did before Showalter came in)
Can anyone say "Boston Red Sox, 2011 AL East Champions"?
How about "Boston Red Sox, 2011 American League Champions"?
I don't really understand why people are surprised to see that Bayonetta won the ballot. I can understand if you're surprised that Nintendo would choose her as a "realizable character," given that her game is very much not family-friendly, but if you didn't see the online support for her, you and I weren't looking at the same posts and comments on social media. That said, I don't like Bayonetta, didn't want her, and am disappointed that she won. But I don't complain, because it's not like I
I was rooting for the Packers, but I expected the Steelers to win. Of course, what I didn't expect was very poor Steelers play in the first half, but all those dropped passes by Green Bay receivers gave them a shot.
Anyhow, congratulations. If my local stations showed the Packers more, I'd probably follow them. But they don't, so I'll just remain neutral.
BTW, I'm in Wisconsin right now. Everyone seems really happy. I wonder why?
The Winnah: Legolover-361
The new pic-chah:
See you. I won't be around much due to new stuff from Christmas, that requires my attention more than BIONICLE related stuff.
First the winners of the doubleheader week.
Mr. Cub with Harry Caray Glasses: 55555
Gorzy: Sumiki
And now, the new image, featuring some of the Kansas City Royals in a to-the-death game of Candy Land during Spring Training of 2010:
Firstly, the final winner of 2010, Megan51.
And then, the first photo of 2011, featuring Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey who is apparently either in pain or RAEGing at something:
First, last week's winner, Sumiki!
Secondly, this week we will have two images. First is Ernie Banks wearing Harry Caray glasses during the rededication of the Harry Caray statue in Wrigley Field.
And then the image of Tom Gorzelanny that is now part of my sig.
Welcome back to the sideshow that the BaseBlog has actually featured more than actual baseball thanks to the BZP downtime. Once again, updates shall be on Thursdays, and only during the offseason. And now, for the inaugural photo from the stinkin' World Champions of Baseball and the stinkin' Brewers who let me down in the NLCS against the stinkin' Cardinals: And congrats to the stinkin' Cardinals. Enjoy it while it lasts. NEXT IS THE CUBS' DYNASTY. ... ... ... with a crazy big amount
Week 3 winner: Night Fury.
This week, we have Shin-Soo Choo going after a fly ball hit by David Ortiz at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Fire away, folks.
Sorry for the delay. The day before I planned to update, a trojan infected our computer, so I had no access to the computer. Anyhow, this week's winner is Sumiki: "That's home plate."
This week will be shorter, as I will still announce the winner this Thursday as originally planned. This time, we have a rather creepy photo of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Jay Gibbons overshadowed by a Piraka-grin car on one of AT&T Park's advertisements. This is during a San Francisco Giants-LA Dodgers r
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much to write about as far as offseason deals and Gold Gloves go, but we do have the first Comic Caption Contest complete, with Legolover-361 as the winner. Not only that, but he graciously provided his own picture with the words already on it, so I didn't have to put them on: WE WANT YOU!...
For this week, we have a classic safe-out call argument between Hank Aaron Award winner Jose Bautista and the umpires during the September 11 Rays-Blue Jays game:
First, the winner, Legolover-361.
And then, pitcher Braden Looper is looking a little loopy:
EDIT: As a result of the low number of entries, this Comic Caption Contest will last beyond this Thursday, and will stay open for entries two weeks. I will bump it Thursday, however.
Well, it's been fun having this little return to activity this week, but I'll be heading back to inactivity starting Sunday. I'm likely to drop in again later on, and I'll still be here tomorrow, but, y'know, I got college to work on, and I believe I'll leave BZPower in the past. Unless BIONICLE ever starts back up again, and then maybe I'll come back for the reunion party.
Rangers vs. Yankees, the showdown was supposed to be. The dark horse was meant to be the Nationals, until they pulled out.
And suddenly, Cliff will be playing back at Citizens Bank Park, rather than Yankee Stadium, Nationals Park, or Rangers Ballpark. I suspected that Cliff Lee wouldn't be going to New York, after the way they treated his wife (and I've heard that when the wife isn't happy, nobody's happy), and I figured that he would be going to the Rangers, since they were the up-and-comers
GRRRRR  At least Carpenter's out of the way. If Texas can win game 2, they'll be in good shape. If not, though, it may be a long offseason for me.
If he wins this game, his first NFL start will be the Super Bowl.
I am now VIOLENTLY rooting for the Bears, just to see that happen.
BEAR DOWN, BEARS!
But that ain't gonna happen.
This was announced by Cubs blog today. I guess the Winter Classic and Wrigleyville Classic convinced the Cubs that they need to have a basketball game in Wrigley also:
Both of these teams are lucky to be here. The Giants beat Mat Latos and the Padres on the last day of the season, eliminating the Padres and winning the West for San Francisco, as well as the Wild Card for the Atlanta Braves. Now the two will face off at AT&T Park for what will probably be the right to face the Phillies and Roy Halladay, the man who no-hit the Cincinnati Reds yesterday. So it looks bleak even for the team that wins this series, but even the mightiest of teams can be taken do
