The 300 Word Rule

I suppose back when I first started writing MR it was actually of concern to me, but nowadays I find it hard to imagine that this could pose a problem to anyone. I find it hard staying under two thousand words for a chapter of a comedy. It just doesn't feel like enough room to tell the story segment fully. At this point, checking the word count is not, "Is it long enough?" it's, "Is it too long already?"   I dunno, just my thoughts on it... 'cuz I'll be writing, and I'll be like, "Okay, there's

That's One!

Looks like I've got into Rutgers.   I don't think any other school I've applied to is rolling admissions, so the next decision to come out ought to be MIT, in December sometime (I applied Early Action). Fingers crossed for that one, 'cuz it's basically far out in the "dream" section.   Yesterday I dumped four forms on my counselor, which means all that is left is this ridiculously long and difficult Cooper Union application. It's like, ten essay questions in a row. ><   Well, okay, ther

That One Red Condiment...

HAHAHA get it get it? The red condiment, you know. It's ketchup. Ketch... up... aha... ha... haaaaaaaathat wasn't very funny was it?   So anyway it's catch-up time since I haven't had time to blog in weeks.   So what's happened? Well, let's go about this in no particular order:   PSATs still haven't arrived. BLAAAAARGH. WHY. THE SUSPENSE ARE KILLING ME.   My parents, uh...   >>   If you believe in Santa, skip please.   » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « So my sister

Thanks To The Admins!

If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't have had the chance for this week to have a blog. Not sure if it's officially gonna end today or tomorrow, but nevertheless, it's been a great experience, and once again happy fifth anniversary BZP!   As you know, my sister's birthday was today, I spent eighteen dollars on her gifts. There were these two little fuzzy animals, I think they're the new thing for the 4-7 set, it's like what was it? Calico something... pets... animals... critters... something.

Thank You Card For My Teacher...

Thought I'd share this 'cuz I liked how it turned out.   I asked my Chemistry teacher from last year to write me a college recommendation letter, and she did, so I made a lil' holidays/thank you card for her.     Anybody who's taken Chemistry and really screwed up on a titration will get this joke.   (this includes me)   (I managed to salvage the lab, though)

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

I JUST WATCHED ALL 27 EPISODES OF THIS SHOW IN TWO DAYS.   OHGAAAAD I COULDN'T STOP MYSEEEEEELF D:   To describe how awesome this anime was would be beyond the language rules of BZP. So basically. It was awesome.   Unfortunately a lot of this entry's gonna have to be in spoiler tags.   First thing's first. Does anyone know if there's anywhere where I can find this image in wallpaper size, or at least a nice high quality version? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Because th

Teachers' Eyes

We're at the dinner table eating and my sister runs off to get this book she wrote (about the "Family karaty super center" where she takes karate ) and starts presenting it to us all.   In the middle of her storytelling she goes, "Hey, turn around and look!" (since the rest of us are still eating, after all) "You don't have eyes on the side of your head!"   To which I reply, "Yes I do. You just can't see them behind my hair."   "Really?"   "Yep."   "No you don't! Only teachers have them."

Tabula Rasa

You know what's great about snow? It's so clean. It's completely white, but not hospital white... just, snow-white. There's no other way to describe it. It's natural.   It's been snowing on and off lately, never enough to stay during the day. But apparently it snowed last night and absolutely everything is covered with exactly one centimeter of snow, coated over. One centimeter over the driveway. One centimeter over the road. One centimeter clumped up over the grass.   And part of what makes s

Suzumiya Haruhi No Shoushitsu: April 2009

According to screenshots from a TV commercial for the March issue of Newtype magazine of the cover of said magazine posted on a relatively reliable site that I can't link to due to forums but I watched an upload of the commercial myself and it looks pretty darned legit, the new season of Haruhi is announced for April of this year and while I would not be surprised if KyoAni were pulling our legs again let me just take this moment to say   HECK. YEAH.

Surrounded By Geeks 2

"Nobody says 'thirteen-thirty-seven!' You say 'one-three-three-seven.' You never say 'thirteen-thirty-seven!'"   "You do if you're making a joke!"   This is apparently what people discuss when walking along the sidewalk. I overheard on the way to Doherty Hall today.   I expect it's worse at MIT though... when we took a campus tour the "endless hallway" had this long paper banner running down the center, that either the graduating seniors or the incoming freshmen grafittied all over. There we

Surrounded By Geeks

So about a week ago we're in robotics class and we're out in the hall, 'cuz we're testing our robot, right? If we tried it inside the room MAX would immediately plow into half a dozen chairs and the table. So we've got an entire workstation that we essentially drag out into the hall each class, including four wheely chairs for each member of our group, a small desk with wheels for the laptop, and way too many cables, extension cords, and adapters to keep track of.   The hallway ends up a bit ob

Summer Assignments

To the teacher who, some time in the past, came up with the notion of "summer assignments"...   I hate you. *shakes fist*   *sigh*   In other news, I put up another chapter of Makuta Rehearsals and I'm ACTUALLY WRITING another chapter of Innovation, that long-ago epic I stopped at 3 chapters four months ago.   And on Saturday I'm updating the Lyg comic. =D

Stupid Commercials

Anyone ever see that cell phone commercial? Sprint, I think. You know, the whole "Haha our competitors don't have as wide a range of coverage as us, haha" gig.   Where there's this guy at a construction site thing, right? And then his lolbluescreenclone comes on and he's like, "Hi, this is Generic Name Joe's phone here! Since he's not on Sprint, he didn't get the call to say that the safety zone has been moved from [arbitrary length] to [arbitrary, much longer length]. Blah blah blah, insert su

Stress

Thy name is college decisions.   Okay so I've got it down to 4, basically... Columbia, CMU, Maryland, and Rutgers.   Columbia and CMU are both about 50,000 a year. Maryland is... 30,000 or 20,000 I think, and Rutgers is free.   Columbia, obviously, is an Ivy. For CMU I got into Computer Science and CMU is definitely among the top for CS... but I have to know I really want to do CS because you can't really pursue anything else but CS with a CS degree. I also can't say I'm too hot on Columbia's

Spring Is In The Air!

I nearly fell flat on my face and/or bottom approximately ten times today.   There was apparently a huge thaw yesterday which resulted in a layer of water coating many surfaces, which resulted, at night, when the temperature is below freezing, in ice.   Ice that is almost invisible.   And on the snow that is still left, there is also a coating on top of, guess what? Ice.   And what looks like a solid puddle of ice on the grass that you can joyously slide across is not, in fact, a solid puddl

Spring Is In The Air, And How...

Spring is certainly in the air. In fact, now that the trees are budding, the air is full to bursting with spring.   This of course means that the air for quite a ways has become unbreathable because of POLLEN.   I hate allergies.   POLLEN!!!!!!!!!

Special Day!

Guesswhatguesswhat? =D   ...   I'm sixteen today! =D   Because it's my birthday! =D   And I has cake! =D   ...   I should stop punctuating my sentences with =D shouldn't I? =D   So anyway I drew this for today and stuff. Yes. Lyg is old.   Came in third for the AC, but that's okay. There's always next time, and I'll be better by then. In the meantime, congrats to MartianMan for a job well done (won the contest of his own theme, how fitting )   EDIT: On a side note, to any Photoshop use

Somebody Bring Me Up To Date!

As of the end of the year 2008 in the Bionicle storyline:   -Who's alive and who's dead (and, if you can spare the time, briefly how they died) and who's likely to be dying sometime soon? -Who are the big players and what do they intend? -Where do we stand in general?   Not asking for an essay. Just want to be up to speed.

Some Updates

52-Pickup will make fun of the fandom, among other things. Nothing is sacred except politics, religion, and the word filter.   It's going to be set on Metru-Nui after the final events of this year's storyline (would I have to spoiler this? Whatever).   I've finished chapter 1 (2300~ words) and I'm partway through chapter 2 (900). Got one more scene planned for this chapter, after I finish the current one. Chapter 3 will be exciting.   I'm also nearing completion with my last(!) college app. O

Soaked

And happy.   Today was SO HOT and because they were working on our basement, and there's sawdust and stuff everywhere, I couldn't turn on the air conditioning because it would blow the dust all through the house.   Very hard to concentrate today. SO. HOT.   But then when my parents came home me and my sister went out onto the deck, with the garden hose, and... well...   Now I'm soaked through. And happy. =D   She was evil though. Completely betrayed me. Got me right in the chest with that h

So... There's An Art Contest...

*sigh* well, after the disappointing results of the last contest, I said I wouldn't be entering any more...   But the theme is too interesting to pass up. Besides, I need something to do to unwind from all this college stuff.   I don't expect to win and I won't be putting forth tireless hours of effort. This is just for fun.     Sketch so far. Concept "car" based off the Ussal and, loosely, the Volkswagen Beetle.

So...

It's May 15th.   I joined this site May 29th, 2004.   And I have 4441 posts.   It's going to be very hard to save those three remaining posts for two weeks. *sigh*   Or I could race ahead and take the risk to try for 4500 posts. Not TOO far off.   Hmm. What you say?
