Ave Kanohi

Pohuaki is awesome.     So is everyone who voted for me – thanks again! The same can easily be said of a lot of the artists who entered AC12 in both categories, as there were a lot of great entries this contest ...   This brings my count of rare Kanohi to find down to four: the orange Vahi, chrome Hau, infected Hau, and copper Komau (not counting misprints). I've never wanted the movie edition Kraahkan, and I'm obviously not even counting the solid gold Hau and platinum Avohkii ... But this

Let There Be Mayhem

What? It's Friday the thirteenth. Which is awesome.   I love superstition ... It's most entertaining, and similarly makes good pondering material. It's also useful to work into stories (always involving witches, which are real in them, of course), simply because it's so interesting to make all these things be real. Also involving other beasts and beings, like vampires, or creatures associated with witchcraft like bats and spiders. And cats, too, although I don't see why they should be limited t

Elegantiae Linguae Latinae

We're starting prose composition in Latin! Woohoo!   Of course, I've done English-Latin translation in 6th and 7th grade, and anyone who's read Empress of the Night knows I love Latin composition. But still! This is so much fun! Even if all we're doing is translating now, not actual composition. I am so looking forward to that ...   And on a related note, the below are your clue of the day to the song I've chosen for Roodaka.   Servatis ad periculum ... Servatis ad maleficum ... – ToM

When In Doubt, Flee To Egypt.

This is amazing: for once I have very little to do.   My history presentation went well, I have no homework in English or Biology, and I did Latin during 9th period, leaving me with only some History, French, and Algebra left to do. Latin itself was also incredibly easy: I just looked at it and understood it aside from a couple words. Whee! (Even if it was synthetic rather than authentic Latin.)   I've also discovered the perfect song for Roodaka in every way and am working on a picture to go

Blue And White

The most awesome thing happened today: I fell over laughing.   And no, that is not hyperbole. I literally fell over.   As the last day of Spirit Week, today was Blue and White Day, after the school colors. It's mainly a field day involving the entire school, divided into blue and white teams, and with the Seniors partnered with the first-graders, the Juniors with the second-graders, the Sophomores with the third-graders, and so on. (And I'm always assigned to the white team, even though I have

We Didn't Die!

No. No we didn't. Thank goodness.   This week was (and still is) Spirit Week for my high school. As usual, each day of the week there's a theme, but each class also has their own theme. Not only does my class work terribly together, but we're also the smallest class in the school. The Juniors have almost twice as many people as us. We were expecting our class skit (based on the theme) to be terrible, and rather certain that we'd come in fourth place as we've been most of the week.   Our theme

The First Of October

Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble ... As it is now October, my signature and avatar have been changed accordingly ... Happy month of Halloween.   – ToM

Ubiquitous Absense

Since part of the point of a blog is to provide updates on one's life ...   I've been absent from a lot of things for the past few days. Saturday and Sunday were spent playing the VNOLG at length (Yes, the L is staying in there; I can justify it!), which is highly addictive and left me with a lot less time on BZP than usual. Sunday evening, I began to come down with a cold. Not altogether surprising, given that a host of people with whom I have class have been sick. Scratchy throat (swallowing

Fun With Derivatives

My life has been rather busy of late due to school and its large quantities of homework (not to mention the immensely disturbing book we're reading in English), so for now I shall give you three words I made up using Latin derivations:   Verdate   Amorance   Sororitous   Your task is to correctly say what they mean. Have fun! My personal favorite word that Dr. Jones has made up is ranine, so you get to define that one, too. It's rather harder than the others.   Meanwhile, I'm eagerly antici

To Pillage Or Not To Pillage ...

I suppose I can't really expect to get away without making an entry about International Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day...   Although what's weird is that, of all days, today I feel like neither talking like a pirate or using the pirate emoticon. Maybe it's because I'm wearing a cape. Not that pirates can't wear capes. I mean, they billow behind you more than those coats do, if dramatic effect is desired. Which it usually is. Because if effect of any sort is desired, drama is a given. Still, they aren't

Ai, Ai! A Balrog! A Balrog Is Come!

~ Legolas, The Fellowship of the Ring   Topic ...   I've been working on this more or less nonstop for the past two days, barring school and homework (I was so glad yesterday was Friday)... *throws himself onto a couch and promptly falls asleep*   "A Balrog! This is an evil fortune. And I am already weary." ~ Gandalf, The Fellowship of the Ring.   – ToM

Dicacitas

It is very hard to be witty at eight-forty in the morning during Latin ... but we manage it.   I usually have Latin second period, but today was a switch day. As you might guess, I'm not awake enough first period to thoroughly enjoy it, although I usually have English first. The usual second period is better, but I miss having it eighth period like I did last year. By eighth period, we're hyper, and it was right after lunch so we could have fun before class started. Not that we don't still have

The Love Of Wisdom

I swear, my class was not that titchy last year when we were Freshmen.   Really, we weren't! Half of their class are so small... (No offense to any Freshmen who may be reading this.) And meanwhile, I have to get used to the fact that the Sophomores are now Juniors and the Juniors are the Seniors. When people don't change much over the summer, it's immensely difficult to picture them being a grade higher.   ... And yes, that includes myself. Being a Sophomore is weird. Mainly in having a class

Disturbing Facts Of Life

Kit Updates!

Yes. I have at last updated the ToM Kit 2. *brushes dust off the kit*   Sprites of note include rotations of the Calix and Suletu (that mask is murderous to sprite from a 3/4 view), as well as the full array of artillery brandished by the Inika. As well as random individual sprites specified in the topic ...   And three surprise sprites in various places. – ToM

A Grey Birthday

First and foremost, I'd like to wish Kay (KKN_GN) a happy 14th birthday! As I've stated elsewhere, 14 was a great year for me – hope it is for you, too. Since you seem to have enjoyed the date so far.   As for the grey part of the title, that's referring to my day, which was unusual in many respects. For one thing, it stormed all day. Not that I object to that – I love rain. However, this involved high winds, downpours as we were in various parking lots (and at home – I wasn't even dry standin

Conflagellations To The Captain

It's a little late in the week, but technically still applicable, but I never did get around to congratulating Schizo and his Captain's Quarters on achieving Blog of the Week (or Quarters of the Week, as he put it). Drinks all around!   And on a linguistic aside, I think a conflagellation would technically be a whipping. From Latin flagellare, to whip. So one wonders why people so often wish them on others ... Maybe a ruse to express animosity under the pretext of felicitating them ...   Not

The Memory Of Trees

I've recently decided that The Memory of Trees is my favorite song ever.   Not just Enya song – although it does top Orinoco Flow, Pax Deorum, It's in the Rain, Less than a Pearl, Cursum Perficio, Watermark ... to name a few, as I could go on listing a great many of her songs. Favorite song out of all the ones I've heard. And it simply occured to me, rather than me going through a list and having to pick a favorite, which makes me all the more convinced that it is.   The song itself, if you ha

Under The Sea

No, this has absolutely nothing to do with LGD Contest #4.   I've added a new content block linking to my fellow pirates' blogs, in the tradition that they started ... returning the favor, you know. The background is from a wallpaper still of this spiffy sunken pirate ship screensaver I found. Not that I use screensavers, but I may use the wallpaper some day ...   – ToM

The Dragon And The Serpent

I liked that writing class very much, but a pencil and paper in front of me invariably lead to doodles ...   A generic anthropomorphized forest-dragon. (They can go back and forth between bi- and quadrupedal forms.) I want to CG it at some point ...   And a sea serpent. Because sea monsters are cool. And I didn't feel like drawing another dragon.   ... Yeah. – ToM

Anywhere Is

This actually touches on various other subjects, but because it deals predominantly with writing, it gets to go in that category.   As I've mentioned to some of you, I've been taking a class on novel-writing for the past week. (Afternoon summer camp-type thing.) As those of you who know me better might know, one of my life's ambitions is to finish a novel (and preferably publish it). I took the same class last year, but I just didn't get as much out of it then as I did this past week, even thou

The Lady In Blue

Considering people's initial reactions to the Inika, they're selling amazingly well ... I was at Target yesterday, and all they had were three Kongu, two Hahli, Jaller, and a couple Matoro. And when I left, they were down to only one Hahli.   :: Toa Hahli ::    :: Gallery ::   Although I've had her since yesterday afternoon, I refrained from building her until this morning to wait for full light to properly admire her. She looks best in direct sunlight, which causes her blue to light up an

The King Is Dead

My Sidorak set officially died yesterday.   The obituary will probably print that it was of a long illness. Roodaka will doubtlessly claim credit and dramatically announce that she murdered him. In truth, however, he was sacrificed to the gods of MOCing, in the tradition of which various nonvital portions of his anatomy (and his nose) were cast into the swirling vortex of pieces over the past year. If you need someone to blame, it's probably Vakama.   He will be buried amid the pieces strewn a
