A Few Updates From Kayvee

ToM has been extremely busy of late. The combination of a paper for English, presentation on Henry of Navarre for Euro, the regular great quanties of notes for Bio, and studying 200+ lines of the Aeneid for a test left him exhausted on Monday and barely standing Tuesday night, even though he had gotten the Latin test and Euro presentation out of the way. Combine this with driver's ed two afternoons a week, leaving insufficient room after school to, to use the common phrase, chill out before divi

Et Iam Finis Erat

~ Aeneid 1.223   Done with AP Latin, which officially makes APs in entirety over. YAY. The multiple choice was hard but fun, and the essays were so easy. The translations were both passages I had read last night, completely by chance, and then the essays proper were all on pretty simple sections, one of which I predicted would be on it, another that Leigh Ann did...   So now I have almost nothing to do for the rest of the year. My only real classes now are Astronomy, English, and Greek, no hom

Who Knew?

Apparently, Six and I are twins when he lets his hair grow out. Or we would be, if he hadn't gotten it cut two days ago...     ToyFair was fun. As was being in New York City again, and hanging out with Andrew (a.k.a. Black Six). We'll get news articles and photos up soon!   Also, fortune cookies. ~ ToM

I Don't Want It To Be Over

Really, I don't... as I've said before, I like being a Junior. I love my classes, I love my senior friends, and I also like not really having any huge responsibilities outside of classes. But next year there won't be anyone above us, and there will be the whole business of college applications, and I'll be yearbook editor and have more responsibility than I usually like. Ah well...   Though, it's not over quite yet. Exams are done, but we have one last day on Monday (getting back exams, some pr

Underwater

The weekend is here, we went sledding during ninth period, snow is swirling in the air outside, and ideas are flowing! There may be midterms next week, but exams don't faze me – and I need a break from studying.   I got a great idea for dragon physiology recently, followed last night by the concept of the Land of the Rising Sun, a distant land to the east of the island-continent where my dragon story takes place. A most entertaining location to ponder, as no one knows what lies beyond the impas

Brickfair: The Spoils

And now we come to another one of the best parts of Brickfair: what I got there! (Slightly after the epic people and memories in order of awesomeness.) And I got quite a lot.   Might as well start with sets. I got the Medieval Market Village, the Deep Sea Striker (a.k.a. the giant scorpion from the Atlantis line), and Rotor for 50% off at Casual Shopping with the Bulls, then won the Shadow Crawler from Exo-Force in Bingo (it's the one with the lime Kodan claw, which is all that matters), and fi

She Blinded Me With Science

For reasons utterly unknown to me, I spent much of the past couple days listening to this song. It's delightfully silly.   But anyway.   I survived the APs! Calculus was okay, but then I didn't know what to do for a couple free response questions and panicked and ran out of time on those two, so I had to leave a few sections blank. But otherwise I think I did pretty well. English was generally easy – I actually liked the essays I wrote, and I got to use Heart of Darkness for my prompt, which m

Oops

Since I missed it, thanks for all the birthday wishes over in my birthday topic, guys! Sorry I didn't post in it; I saw it earlier in the day and then kinda forgot to check back until it was too late...   Spring break ended two days ago for me, so I actually had a couple festivity-things before coming back here. One was just with my parents, where I got Enchanted and Slumdog Millionaire (<3 both), the new Celtic Woman CD, Songs from the Heart (as great as ever), and a couple more practical t

The Toa Of Magnetism

He's not finished quite yet, missing a few pieces, with a few gaps needing to be filled in (his legs, for one), and without his tools, but...     Yes, with a bandolier. I was going to give him just his normal belt, but then I decided that a bandolier would be much more interesting and would also hold itself up on its own. The fact that I'm a few chapters into reading Abhorsen might have something to do with it, too.   I've been wondering exactly what a Magnetic Bolt Launcher would do... I ca

Helryx Practice

As you may have guessed, I had exams last week. They were strenuous if nothing else. I was very pleased when Friday came around and I didn't have to get up in the morning, and then I spent the rest of the day doing nothing but cleaning my room and writing a certain review and coloring in Photoshop just for its own sake...   I made this a while ago, probably around the time I posted that other sketch of Helryx, for the sake of drawing her face and armor some more. I still need practice drawing h

The P S A T Approaches

Yeah. I'm taking the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) tomorrow, although as a Sophomore it counts for absolutely nothing...   But still – is it supposed to be this easy? I just went through the practice test and I can't believe this is what I'll be sitting for next year. If the real thing is anything like the practice (which I think is the PSAT from two years ago...), it'll be really simple. The math took me about a few seconds for a lot of the problems, and ... well, I suppose I'm n

The Color Of Stone

If you're wondering about the title ... I shall be discussing it in a review of Hewkii, followed by thoughts on Carapar.   Toa Hewkii    :: Gallery ::   The first thing everyone noticed about Hewkii was his color. He's not dark orange; he's not tan; he's not even brown – he's iron grey and yellow-orange. I accepted the other Inika's color schemes – dark red and bright gold aren't far from red and yellow; white and ice blue are ideal for a Toa of Ice, although I miss sand blue; Hahli's swir

Bryophytes

Mood: exhausted Listening to: Less than a Pearl, Enya   Ohhh, it feels like it's been so long since I've listened to Amarantine (the CD, not the song). I love the songs in Loxian, and the whole album is, as with most anything by Enya, very relaxing, and good for a late winter afternoon...   In Biology, we're finally on plants, and I'm annoyed that we skipped the section on Bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts mainly). And we jumped over the chapter on algae entirely. Bryophytes are m

Welcome To October

I like this month. Even if I wish September weren't over already, because it means school is slipping by and I don't really want this year to end...   But there's so much about October that I just love. The weather is nice and cool, fall is properly beginning, the trees are magnificent colors... And night is appropriately haunting with the leaves half-fallen and a full moon. It's like the whole month is leading up to Halloween, the feeling one gets exploring at night fits all the mystique of it

Hahli's Theme

You may remember, a while ago, when I decided that Takanuva's theme song in QfLD was One Day, from the Pirates 3 soundtrack.   Yesterday I stumbled upon an idea for what Hahli's theme is, and it's quite grown on me, so now it's official: You Raise Me Up, as sung by Celtic Woman. If you haven't heard it, search for it somewhere, and you'll probably find it. And of course listen to it. It's a great song, and I've been wanting to do a Hahli/Shenyu picture set to it for a while, since it really fit

The Wrath Of Davy Jones

I'm obsessed with Pirates of the Caribbean. Have you noticed?   I just realized yesterday, Davy Jones's organ theme (from The Kraken) can be described perfectly by the phrase "going down with a fight." It's powerful, dramatic, yet also has a sense of inescapable tragedy to it – putting up a valiant fight but knowing that defeat is the only outcome in the end. Perfect for the final battle of Dead Man's Chest. And at the same time, Davy himself pouring out the pain and anguish from his love by ha

The Houses Of Healing

I'm in love with this song. It and The Passing of the Elves are now my two favorite songs from all of the Lord of the Rings movies, though Into the West certainly gives them competition.   Are you confused yet? They're from the Complete Recordings editions of the Fellowship of the Ring and Return of the King soundtracks. Things I discovered last winter and immediately looked for The Passing of the Elves on, but I didn't think to look around for The Houses of Healing until just recently.   And

Fins And Tentacles

Hm. My watermelon appears to be growing tentacles. Never had that happen before.   I, however, now have webbed hands!   Also, look for the revamp of Tiome I mentioned last entry in the BBC forum tomorrow, as that's the last time I'll have to post him before leaving for vacation in Delaware on Thursday. Unfortunately still without Hahli Mahri... But I'll hopefully be able to get her while down there.   I think Jaller Mahri's put a spell on me, too... I find myself wanting his set more and more

Cold

*sniff* I hate back-to-school colds. I slept terribly last night, my nose is simultaneously running and stuffed up, and my throat is sore...   But I had to get it eventually. It happened last year. Ally originally thought it was her fault (or rather, the fault of the person sitting next to her on the plane), but she now claims that Lowell is to blame... Ah well.   This entry, however, is actually the first one I've written actually using this computer as a laptop and making use of the wireless

Walking On Ice

Everything around here is frozen. It's not freezing rain, it's... frozen rain. It was pretty warm yesterday, about 40º, then there was a downpour last night, which froze during the day today. So now there's just this layer of ice over everything.   And it's really fun. I went out a while ago just to explore my yard, and I had to work hard to keep my balance walking in some of the gently-sloping places, because the grass is frozen into a thin sheet and all the sticks are covered in ice... There'

Hide The Rum

The week after Christmas wound up being much better than the week before for me. In fact, so much happened that it has to be spread over several entries.   It was fruitful on all fronts – I got a bunch of ideas for backstory, scenes, and language for both Éa-Nui and another story-in-planning of mine involving dragons; watched Dead Man's Chest, listened to Over the Hills and Far Away (already heard Once), and bought the Dead Man's Chest soundtrack with one of my B&N gift cards; and used one
