Blogarithm Contest #9 Winner!

After struggling mightily to cull excellent entries down to a lone winner, Sumiki's Dad has chosen Portalfig as the winner of Blogarithm Contest #9: Vakama Eats Spam‽   Portalfig will be featured in The Adventures of Sumiki's Dad 2: Vakama Eats Spam, to be posted shortly in the Comedies forum. In addition, Portalfig will receive a signed copy of The Adventures of Sumiki's Dad saga upon its completion—signed, of course, by Sumiki's Dad himself.   Dallior08 and Pohatu: Master of Stone came in seco

April, Month Of Awesome!

April.   Is.   EPIC WIN.   First off, we have April Fool's Day. I haven't played any really good pranks on somebody in a while, any suggestions, BZP?   On the Fifth, the Major League Baseball season starts up. That makes a month win even if everything else is boring.   Next, Series Five of Doctor Who starts on BBC America, starting April 17th. Words cannot describe the happydance!   Finally, some other assorted things that I can't think of right now but are awesome anyway.   Compounded,

Music Favorites V - Josef Hofmann's The Sanctuary (from Impressions)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cLvxekUaps   Josef Hofmann belonged to a category of pianists that can only be classified as super-virtuosi. But how good was he? Sergei Rachmaninov himself admit to practicing 15 hours per day to get to his level. (Rachmaninov's hands were immense, and Hofmann's were slightly below average.) Hofmann also flawlessly played works in concert that he hadn't as much as seen for nearly three years.   His immense talent at the piano - especially in his ability to play r

Quotes!

Welcome to the back of the blog. Those delicious quotes that used to be on the bottom of the blog ... sort of kept getting longer and longer. I sought a way to shorten what always loaded at the bottom, and what always stretched the page ... and this is the answer.   As an added bonus, if you have a funny quote, you can comment here with it.

Every Time Someone Is Promoted

I inevitably end up seeing people saying something along the lines of "I'm surprised Sumiki wasn't promoted".   And while I'm glad people think so, I don't know why. So inform me.   DRAT I bumped this.

2013: A BrickFair Odyssey

We're taking our time going up to BrickFair this year, getting there in two days instead of one. We're just about to head out the door towards Richmond.   I'm pumped!   And I have lots of hats!   This is exciting!

Faxon, Faxoff

Six years ago today, I joined this site called BZPower.   Six years ago, the spinny that I have next to my proto bar didn't even exist. The following year it was given to only the most tenured members, the ones that everyone looked up to, be they staff or not. But yet, I've always considered the five-year Olmak to be the Old Folks Spinny, simply because that was what all the old folks had when I first joined. It's been ingrained into my memory ever since.   Now that's gone. I've passed it.   And

Tuesday Tablescraps - 8/19/14 - Kanohi Zatth

| |   In addition to my Kongu Mahri, I've picked up a number of Zatths over the years at various BrickFairs. Four of the five I used in this MOC, an homage to everyone's favorite Forum Assistant newbie, The Zatthman.   The red arm represents the gauntlet that he has worn at every BrickFair that I can remember, and the little weapon in his other arm is supposed to be a Star-Lord-esque weapon that he made at this past 'Fair.   #teamfarmanimals

Happenings

The past week or so has been absolutely mad. I won't try to list all the crazy things that have transpired so I'll just kind of condense it:   Our washing machine began to go bad and broke, so we got a new one, only for the delivery to be delayed because of store-side incompetency, ice, etc. Our mailbox decided to bite the dust around the same time, although getting a new one was relatively simple.   The high school baseball season was slated to start last week, but our first game was sleeted ou

It's my Dad's Birthday

So, in honor of this momentous occasion, here are a few more of his timeless quotes:   "The KGB looked around, but they couldn't find any vowels."   "The best rat repellant is old plastic combined with Arby's sauce."   "I was inspired by a dried squash with silly tendencies."   "Onions and my navel have a close association with tacos."   "She discussed the importance of large nose hairs while spending time with her pet lampshade."

It's a Christmas Tradition

My dad and I have a tradition: every Christmas, we clear out a room to shoot each other with Nerf guns and laugh maniacally when we hit each other’s heads.   It’s a Christmas tradition because the room we do this in isn’t clean like this at any other point.   War will commence shortly. Wish me luck.
