Drop The Clubs

Because these true fans/petition LEGO about whatever has simply got to go.   One or two's fine, but there are clubs in the blogs simply for the sake of being a club.

Don't Rock the Boat

-----It was get-up-and-go from our hotel to the departure point for our tour boat around Kenai Fjords National Park. We had to be there at 7:00 for boarding at 7:30 for an eventual departure at 8:00. Our tour took us through the waters around Seward, and the wildlife we saw was impeccable: a dozen-odd sea otters (one of which had napped all the way to much deeper waters), several pods of orcas who crested early and often around and under the ship, several humpback whales who displayed their ta

Doctor #13

Every three to five years, on average, the incumbent Doctor regenerates, and because the BBC doesn't want to keep things a surprise until the actual regeneration episodes—which seem to occur exclusively on Christmases, for some heretofore unacknowledged reason—we, as fans, are left with knowing who's next in line without the benefit of seeing their Doctor's performance in an actual episode.   I became a fan of the show during the Tenth Doctor's run, and I remember the absolute uproar that accomp

Déjà Vu

We slept in and ate some brunch at the place that's become our local favorite - Hometown Kitchen. All the waitresses know us now, and they brought a whole butterscotch pie to the table to show us, with a promise that they'd save a slice for my dad. We ate well, and my dad enjoyed his pie. For the first time, I sampled a bite. It was alright, but compared to my beloved turtle cheesecake it was actually rather bland. Regardless of my opinion, it's their most popular dessert.   We did a little more

Dear Bonkle Fandom:

G1 and G2 are not related.   Yes, they're reusing names, and they're reusing elements, and the Vahi keeps cropping up in hidden ways. But other franchises have gone through reboots, and no other fandom has attempted to connect generations as I've seen here.   Please stop trying to connect them.   Sincerely, Sumiki

Dear Anyone Who Teaches Online Courses

Please, please, do not insist that the questions you put on an exam are from the book. How the heck do you expect me to answer correctly when I don't even have any relevant information until two chapters later?

Dawn on the Range

Our alarms went off at the unholy hour of 4:00 in the morning. Since we'd prepared everything the night before, it was a slightly faster process in getting out the door than usual. We hit the road at 4:40, when the sun had not yet risen, but its light was reflecting off of the cloud cover of the west.   Our first destination: the Beartooth Highway, which crosses the Beartooth Pass in the Beartooth Mountains near Beartooth Peak. (A lot of different names to take in, I know.) The road climbs up to

Dawn of the Final Day

We began the day by looking at the route home when I discovered a place that we'd unexpectedly pass: Montpelier, the home of President James Madison. It was a detour of just a few miles from our initial route, so we decided to take the detour and tour his home.   Having visited Monticello many years ago, I kind of knew what to expect, but that was a while back and a completely different house. Montpelier was similar - starting in the visitor's center, we watched an introductory film and learned

Cryoshell Song Review

1: Creeping In My Soul: You can really tell that this song was written for BIONICLE. The rapping lyrics interject every now and then, giving the song a nice eclectic mix, though I'd prefer it to be all non-rap.   2: Bye Bye Babylon: The "uncensored" version, it really evokes the "epic-rock" genre, though the lyrics really don't make too much sense. It's the longest song on the album at 4:37. I like the electric guitar solo around 3:40. It also ends abruptly, something I don't quite like.   3:
