[UPDATED] Mastodon

[originally published 3/14/14, updated 6/25/14]   decided to update and republish this, since yesterday I picked up the band's newest album. still missing the Call of the Mastodon compilation of early tracks, but I'll get that eventually.   from the top to the bottom:   - Remission - Leviathan (Ozzfest Edition, sans slipcase which the used copy I got sadly didn't include) - Blood Mountain - Crack the Skye - The Hunter (unfortunately the version with "Blasteroid" censored, which I was unaware of

Batman/Superman

coming in 2015.   directed by Zack Snyder, written by David Goyer.   will take inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns.   going to be considered the sequel to Man of Steel.   this has the potential to be either really amazing or really disappointing.

The Person of the Day

is DeeVee because what he's had to say on a certain subject recently has been totally commendable and agreeable and respectable and just major props all around to the guy.

Free Music Spotlight 02 [UPDATE #2]

Machinae Supremacy!   an interesting band from Sweden, Machinae Supremacy employ the use of a Commodore 64 SID chip to fuse electronics with power metal, and top it off with anime and video game-inspired imagery and lyrics.   while not everything they've released is free, they do have a handful of albums available that you can download in either 192kbps MP3 or FLAC format - one full-length, Deus Ex Machinae, as well as three compilations of demos, promotional tracks, and re-recordings: Origin, A

Machine Head

I got their new album and completed my collection of their only good ones.   nope, I'm not missing any albums at all. third and fourth albums? what third and fourth albums?   from top to bottom:   - Burn My Eyes - The More Things Change... - Through the Ashes of Empires (US edition with bonus track "Seasons Wither") - The Blackening (2-disc special edition with two bonus cover tracks) - Unto the Locust - Bloodstone & Diamonds   no, but seriously, this collection is technically incomplete. yo

The X-Files: Founder's Mutation

..aaaaand that might just have been one of the best episodes of the entire series, old and new. we're off to an inconsistent start, to say the least.   now that the two-night premiere event is over, we're back to a weekly schedule for the next four weeks. shame it'll all be over so soon.

sneakin out the hospital

100 points to anybody who get gets the title reference   anyway so I guess I didn't have to sneak, but I was in and out of the hospital this evening   it's ok I'm ok everything's ok, I just had kind of a potentially brain-damagingly high fever that refused to go down   they pumped me full of meds and fluids and did every medical test known to man   so far as they can tell it's just some kind of virus that should go away within a few days with the proper medication

RIP Scott Weiland

was absolutely gutted when I heard the news last night, still finding it hard to accept even now.   Stone Temple Pilots are one of my all-time favorite bands and at least half the reason why was Scott. talented as heck and when he had it together, he was truly one of the greatest frontmen in rock. it felt inevitable that it would end this way given his history, but it's still hitting me pretty hard.   I was just in the middle of finishing up my STP collection, too. I just got one of the last alb

[Updated] Weezer

got my pre-order copy of The White Album in the mail yesterday (a day ahead of the actual release date), and it has easily dethroned Everything Will Be Alright in the End as my new third-favorite Weezer album. didn't disappoint at all and it feels like they've really recaptured the magic after a string of mediocre-to-awful albums throughout the 2000s.   as such, I figured it was time to update the ol' Weezer collection post.     from top to bottom:   - Weezer (blue album) - Pinkerton - Weezer (

on my way out

sup dudes, dudettes, and wonderful in-betweens   that annoying thing known as life that some people may or may not have experience with is catching up with me and as a result I've found it necessary to cut some things out of it, BZP being one of them   there's no hard feelings or anything, it's just time for me to move on   I'll still probably lurk every once in a while and I may pop back in on special occasions (my 10th BZPversary coming up in a few months, for example) but for the forseeable f

M83

from top to bottom:   - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (US edition with bonus disc) - Before the Dawn Heals Us - Saturdays = Youth - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - Junk   also owned digitally: the Oblivion original motion picture soundtrack. pretty dull soundtrack for a pretty dull movie, although the title track featuring Susanne Sundfør is still one of my favorite M83 songs.   I'm currently missing Digital Shades Vol. 1, which is a short instrumental ambient album and not really a full-bl

Age of..

..Adaline looks like a terrible film. sad to see Harrison Ford waste his talent like that.   this was just something I observed when I saw its poster while at the cinema to see a far less popular film that I'm sure nobody here has seen nor cares about, Avengers: Age of Ultron. great film. liked it better than the previous Avengers movie, although both certainly fall short of the first one.   interestingly, it would seem that Ultron has decided to take a different route in his plan to fight human
