The Lovely Bones

After seeing the trailer for the movie on a video sharing site, I finally got down to placing a hold for it at my local library. I'd known about The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold since ninth grade but always put off on reading it, and I'm glad I did because after making it through the whole story I feel like I wouldn't have been able to truly appreciate the intensity and skill of Sebold if I'd read the novel as a freshman.   It's a great read and I definitely recommend it, but not to readers who

The Doctor Is In!

This just in:   ++Dr. Bionicle Sighted in RPG Forums++   A Dr. Bionicle was seen around noon PST today wandering the RPG forums. The scientific community is in an uproar at this latest development.   The Dr. Bionicle, for those of you unfamiliar with RPG history, was a creature that flourished in the year 2006, even winning the first ever RPG Contest and hosting the highly successful Academy RPG for nine months (after which it was merged into the official BZPRPG). In the following years, howe

Naruto Rpg Profiles: Part 8

TEAM 15 Brief Team History: n/a   Sensei:   Name: Heroga Kaizen. Age: 27 Rank: Jounin Personality: Kaizen has a goofy personality. He likes to fool around, mess with others, and other stuff like that. Despite his age, he acts like a young teenager. Not only does he almost never take anything serious, you can almost never take him seriously. Despite his behavior, he is a good friend, and a loyal one too. So he liked by many in the village. He can also be found at the academy, or at the pa

Spreading My Wings: My Journey To Eagle

Well then. I'm there. I'm an Eagle Scout. After four years of community service, merit badges, camp outs, leadership...I've done it.   ...   It hasn't really hit me yet. XP   But seriously, after looking at Eagle as the goal, the thing to strive for, it's hard for me to get used to finally being there. I suppose if I recount all my achievements, it might make it easier for me to accept.   I started out later than everyone else. I didn't do Cub Scouts, and it was only in the March of my sixt

I'm Just Visiting And What Is This?

Well, excuse my language but holy ###### was this a pleasant surprise.   I've managed to completely forget about BZP and all the great friends I made here, hadn't visited the site for just shy of a year now...heard about the "downtime" over the summer but that's the only news I'd heard about the BZP. Decided on a whim to pop in for a visit, and what is this?   Wow. New format. So much cleaner and professional looking. Can't even remember the old look, trying not to so nostalgia doesn't overwhelm

In The End, It Doesn't Even Matter~

Same words, different context.   In the end, the BZPRPG is just a game, guys. You can choose to play it like one or you can take it seriously. Take your pick, though I'm of the opinion that the former option is more fun -- taking something like an RPG so seriously more often than not leads to angst, anger, ego jousts, rants, and the loss of friends.   I shall quote renowned BZPRPG economist Endearing Effeminate Son here:   "BZPRPG: Serious Business."   And then qualify that profound statemen

Idbm - Go Vote!

There's a contest going on right now to make a Rahi canon...specifically, the bird Rahi that Ackar uses to teach Mata Nui how to predict an opponent's movements.   There are lots of good entries out of the twenty there, go to the poll and vote for your favorite!

To Con Or To Comic-con?

Never thought I'd see the day. CNN just did an article on their website about Comic-Con. That's right, Comic-Con made it into a mainstream media news site.   I've never actually been to a Comic-Con myself, but I've heard enough over the years to know that it used to be exclusive to us geeks. According to the article, over the past few years more and more mainstream stuff has been making it into Comic-Con; last year, people reportedly were not able to get into the panels they wanted because the

Salvation Run

Just read DC Comic's Justice League of America: Salvation Run, and I think it's one of DC's best, or at the very least a must-read. The basic premise of this is that, seeing as how more and more supervillains are overrunning the world, the government decides to set up a sort of Prison Planet - another world deep in space and far away from Earth. Captured supervillains are deported to this Prison Planet via Boom Tube (teleportation machines), and left alone to "start a new life" apart from civ

Staples

Don't you hate it when somebody staples a packet of paper too close to the center, and the staple isn't in the top left hand corner but too far down and to the right?   It's like the staple is intruding in the rest of the paper's personal space. I mean, how are the words going to get any room to breathe if the staple is right next to them? It's just rude and obnoxious. If any staples are reading this, I suggest you go back to the little square inch in the corner of the page where you belong.

Naruto Rpg Profiles: Part 1

Since my first post in the RPG is already too big, I have no room for the profiles for characters. Keeping them in a Word Document and showing them to the members when necessary has worked well so far, but I think putting the profiles in an easily accessible page would be easier, so in the next few days I'll be putting profiles by team in my blog, starting with Team 7 and their substitute teammate.   TEAM 7:   Brief history of team: The team got along very well, the three Genin of the team b

Strange

For some reason I'm finding topic-based RPGs to be harder to catch up on than forum-based RPGs.   Could just be because of my spending three years mostly in a forum-based RPG only.

My Technological Growth

I've just changed my avatar to a 64x64 drawing that I edited myself, on Microsoft Paint. A year and a half ago I had been asking friends to make avatars or sigs for me, often to go with the fads at the time (Marvel fad, I is a Fish fad, etc.). Now, though, I can fully operate such complicated (so it seemed back then) computer applications to create or edit drawings of my own.   Even though this is just a small accomplishment, I can't help but be proud of myself for finally getting one of sever

731 Days Reflected

Well, I've gotten my Avohkii spinny. That means two years have passed since I first joined BZP.   It's kind of weird when I think about it. That's two years in which I've had one more thing in my schedule. Sometimes it seems like these two years have flown. Other times it feels like BZP has been a part of me my whole life.   I'm not sure what to say. But what I feel is the biggest experience I've had here, is the Academy/BZPRPG. I joined the Academy about three months after I joined BZP, and

At Camp

I'm really glad that BZP is back up again. I actually became a premier member several weeks ago, at the start of 2007, from a Short Stories Contest (I highly recommend all who read it to compete in the next one, because it's definitely worth it), but I haven't blogged until now.   Anyway, I've been at a camp since mid-July. It started on the 14th, and will end this Friday. The camp is called CSSSA or Innerspark, and is 4 weeks long. At first I was reluctant to go because I didn't really know m

Reflections On The Autumn Olympics

My only complaint about the Short Stories Contests was always that there weren't enough of them. =P I loved writing, I loved reviewing others' writing, but I often had trouble working up the motivation to do either. Part of that may also have been because the Short Stories forum always felt so lonely, as opposed to a couple of the other forums I was a regular to. The contests not only provided me with an incentive to do the former, but also gave me much-needed reassurances that there really was

Crossing The Bridge

Here's another one of the stories I wrote here at arts camp. I wrote this about three weeks ago, and it's far from complete. I'm still editing and revising it, but here's the story so far. I present to you "Crossing the Bridge" by me.   Crossing the Bridge   Jessica clutched a large picture book with both arms as she made her way down the path, looking ahead at the rows and rows of gravestones. She smiled sadly as she recognized the two gravestones farthest away from her. The young girl began

A Tribute To My Chair

This may seem like a random subject for a blog entry, but I've seen plenty of random entries, so I guess this should be okay.   Anyway, a few minutes ago I walked into the family bedroom where the computers are, and I saw that the chair I usually sit in while using the computer was broken. Specifically, the backrest had fallen off the rest of the chair, meaning I now had to sit in something similar to a stool.   I picked up the backrest off the floor and looked at it. One side was cushioned;

Back From Camping

My thoughts on the experience:   1) Raccoons > Bears 2) Instant Mac and Cheese still tastes good without milk and butter. 3) Old people not only can hike, but are better at it than a group of seventeen year olds. 4) Some rangers are chill, some aren't. 5) Sociology and Economics texts make for some great fuel. 6) GPS > Woman for directions. But the extra two hours of getting lost in the mountains was nice I guess. Beautiful scenery.

Blog Thing

I got a PM this afternoon. It was some sort of Member of the Day thing, and I got an image to go along with it. Anyway, I decided to put this in my blog, just for kicks. My thanks to Skateboarder 2 da max for this image:     That's all. I might put up one of my written stuff in the next few days.

The Career Research Project

I have a college consultant. We meet every month or so to discuss college applications or what I have to do to get into college…community service, awards, etc. In fact, I just came home from a seminar my consultant held, which was attended by myself as well as five others that my consultant is helping. The main thing we did was conduct a self-survey, designed to determine our strengths and weaknesses. Some categories included social consciousness, affection for knowledge, school enthusiasm, inde
