The Three Most Depressing Songs Ever

Here's three of the most depressing songs in existence, all by Megadeth. Excerpts provided for reading purposes.

Youthanasia: "We are the ###### of all the world, with sadness in our hearts.

The wounded of the wars; we've been hung out to dry.

You didn't want us anyway, so now we're making up our minds.

You tell us how to run our lives: we run for euthanasia."

When: "And the oath I swear on this day, to share your pain.

Until then, until I see your world implode,

I wish you death and suffering!

Misery to spare!

Time to reherse your pain, face the last enemy.

I am the last thing you will know.

I walked a minefield for you,

A coherent ###### with you.

How could you do this to me?

I trusted you, and I loved you.

And you spit back in my face!"

And finally, the ever-so-popular In My Darkest Hour: "Life will be better when I'm dead and gone, but I gotta' die first. Please God, send me on my way!"

And this is the kind of music I love.

Is there something wrong with me?

Nah. As long as the music's good (which I'm assuming it is), I see no reason not to love it. I love the song Stop Swimming by Porcupine Tree, and it's a depressing song about suicide. However, it's not going to stop me from listening to it; it's a beautiful song nonetheless.

Now if you took your satisfaction from the definitive meaning of the lyrics... there might be a problem.

Open Your Eyes, by Staind. Now that's a depressing song.

Actually, the whole album is pretty depressing, but that song in particular really stands out.

Yeah it's not really the lyrics that get me, it's more the emotion. In the case of 'When", the music's rather plain, but the emotion he spits through the vocals is great. For some reason it's the depressing songs that have the most emotion. The other two songs have wonderful music behind the words.

Though the guitar solo on Dream Theater's "Goodnight Kiss" is filled with emotion, and it's got no words. =P

Yeah man, that Megadeth just brings on the tears.

I personally think St. Anger by Metallica is the most depressing song ever. Every time I hear those trash can drums crash down, and James hoarsely yelling out that whole "St. Anger round my neck/ He never gets respect" line that pretty much makes up the whole 7 minutes of the song with no break, I cry a little bit.

I think that's a different kind of depressing. More like, "how can anything possibly be this wretched sounding? GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"

Really? There's a song about sunday that people commit suicide because of it, it's that depressing.

Personally, I find Hello by Evanescance depressing.
