Pokemon Gold

Shadonix

I just unearthed it and started a new game. So far:

<3 <3 <3

Picked Cyndaquil as the starter, currently a Quilava, and I also have a Pidgeotto and a Sudowoodo named HJ. MSPA fans, I do NOT need to de-acronym-ificate that. :P I'm currently on the ocean going to Cianwood Town.

HJ Sudowoodo?

Yes.

So how's the save file working? My copy of silver has a dead battery and it won't save anything anymore. :<

The original Gold? Awesome.

I only ask cause I've seen people call HG just Gold. :P

They are blasphemers. And you don't UNEARTH HeartGold; it came out like last year. :P

Save file's working fine, but I forget, there either weren't running shoes or I forgot to get them.

Running shoes only first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire, unfortunately. =/

RSE were the greatest. I love Hoenn so much.

The battery in yours is still working?!

I didn't used to play it too much. Honestly, I didn't even know games had their own individual batteries. :P

YES RSE WAS AWESOME. I prefer GSC over it though.

But yeah, cartridge games of this type do not use save cards like consoles, they save the information on the game card itself. In order to do this, they must have a battery to keep the files stored (GSC also went a step further and exploited this battery technique to keep the clock and calendar running while the game was off, which probably had an effect on battery life). These batteries supposedly only lasted for 7 years. Although future games such as Crystal managed to avoid having batteries with this lifespan, practically all copies of Gold and Silver can no longer save unless you get a custom battery fitted inside.

Regions (best to worst) as ranked by Shad:

Hoenn

Sinnoh

Kanto

Unova

Johto

Idk, to me, Johto was like someone tried to copy Kanto and failed epicly. :P

RSE was very good, yes. Except for the water routes. It can be annoying to run into a million tentacool in a minute. =P

I ran into like over 9000 Tentacool on the way to Cianwood City in Gold... Also argh, was I supposed to get Strength BEFORE I went to Cianwood? >.<

RSE was the first Gen I played, and it'll always be my favorite. It was my first RPG, and one of my first games in general. The sense of wonder I had exploring the Hoenn Region has yet to be matched.

Same; Sapphire was probably the first game I ever seriously played, and it remains one of my favorites.

I played Ruby. :P

And Emerald, too...I think people hate on Emerald more than it deserves. Sure, it wasn't dramatically different from the first two games, but it was a refined version of a foundation that was already pretty solid.
