Vista Anti-virus 2011

That software is a Trojan. DON'T USE IT. My dad and I just spent several hours trying to figure out how to get rid of it. We eventually had to delete my account and remake it from scratch, though fortunately I was able to transfer my old files to the new account.

*Found this out a few weeks ago, except with 'XP' instead of Vista*

It's good that it only took several hours; try a week to get everything fixed. And even then there are a couple minor problems at times, but again, minor. =/

The virus is apparently programmed to adopt the name of whatever system your computer uses.

You got it too? Dang. As far as I know it's a recent outbreak, first appearing about a month ago.

There are tons of attacks that pretend to be some sort of Windows anti virus. In general, if one pops up that you didn't purchase, the odds are it's a virus. Although by the time it pops up, it's usually too late and it's already infected your computer.

I've had this happen to me a couple of time, but now I know how to remove them pretty quickly. But they're still annoying, and potentially harmful.

Lhik: *Checks date* Yep; that sounds about right; I got hit the day before April Fool's Day; drive by download. =/

And yeah, that does sound right, because it sounds like what you're describing. Did it close your browser, and then keep saying everything that you used to access the internet was a trojan? When in reality it was the trojan? =P

The other thing, is that it's kinda easy to find out if you're literally infected with this thing. It's filename is a randomly generated string of three letters, pretty much.

How'd you get it?

Not sure, really, but my suspicions lie on a lesser-known video site that I can't name because it too has a comment system.

@Blade: Yeah, that's basically what it did.

Yeah; that's the same thing I got, then.

Funny thing is, if you tried to open up Paint, it'd try to go one step further than that. =P ... Never did try to open up Paint since it got fixed, wonder what would happen?

Ouch. ><

I'll have to be plenty careful. My computer is slow sometimes already (although it doesn't show any signs of a virus; it's just slow).
