Now For A Late Entry By Daiker

On the subject of BBC contests allowing LDD models.

I feel one of the key challenges with MOCing is the MOCers inventory. The amount of parts one has affects how they use them and adds to the challenge. With LDD, you do have an (almost) unlimited supply of parts, but as to how you use them is in a way more difficult. Things must be able to fit perfectly, and such. With actual parts, the way you use and can put on parts varies, from legal to illegal connections. I think having to MOC with reals parts is much fairer in such contests. The inventory of a creator can either make or break their creations, and in my opinion, it gives contestants a fairer contest.

It's like adding a robot in a running marathon. They have an upper hand as they don't tire, and you eventually will. But that's just the way I see it.

Surely giving everyone the exact same inventory, i.e what's available in LDD, would be fairer?

How much someone can afford to buy shouldn't influence the winner of a contest that is based on creativity, not wealth.

Just ban extended mode in contests and I'm happy. The actual usage of LDD generally balances out with the fact that you have access to a ton of parts you might not otherwise, but when you give access to any and all colors for any and all parts, the whole thing just goes out the window.

I can see other problems stemming from the unlimited LDD. The contests officially ban painted/modified parts, and the extended mode bypasses that by simply offering a non-existent color of a piece.

I completely agree. BBC and SBC contests should ban LDD models.

Instead, there should be separate LDD contests - or, alternatively, an LDD "category" of BBC/SBC contests.
