Shall I cancel Strike From the Shadows?
Anyone know that RPG? Yeah, I'm currently chalking it up as a double failure; in theme and in practice. The theme itself, with the T/DH war, gave a very limited number of NPCs, which is not a very good idea, since usually NPCs die rather fast. Logistically, about one fifth of the toa forces would be PC toa. This leads to the next problem; lack of cohesive military structure. It's stated pretty clear that the Protectorate have a military setup for the toa, yet I never made the specifics, nor do most players have any parts in it. Rather, PC toa are basically the guys who wander around randomly unless assigned to some mission or other. In short, the RPG was set up to work nicely as an RPG with heavy GM leading. This leads to the second problem with the RPG: lack of strong leadership.
Originally, going into this, I was under the impression that I would have a core group of three or four GMs all actively running the game and furnishing plots. Heck, I even made an entire subforum in my personal forum for it.
The result? Real life swallowed one of my GMs and prevented his replacement from being overly active. The BZPRPG killed another one of my GMs, who I did not replace. The result that I was running the whole RPG singlehandedly, with my one remaining unkilled GM helping me.
Now, anyone who really knows me online will know that on things like this, I do not have the longest interest span. After about one or two weeks, I was thoroughly sick of the RPG. Because of the lack of NPCs, I was pretty much GM controlling all the NPC battles in one mission (the Port Strike), and that took up a lot of time, and even more energy.
In short, by the time that mission was done, I thoroughly was sickened of Gming the RPG, and because of it the RPG suffered. As people may have noticed, the RPG at the moment is at a complete standstill, wit only a few players actually active. About the only official thing going on is an interview between Lariska and a dragon, and a council Dume is holding.
That, in long, is how SftS has been doing. Moral of the story, whenever you have a good RPG idea, make sure you have GMs willing to help you and not suddenly vanish, and have an idea that works well as an RPG.
So, here is my question to SftS players mainly. Looking at the RPG, should I revive it, preferably under somewhat new leadership, or simply close it early?
