Foreign Music...

Why does it always sound so much better than English? I have no idea what the lyrics are until I look them up. It's then that I realize I love the song's message and then try to learn to sing said song in its original language.

I know "Once Upon a December" in Spanish (though, that wasn't originally a foreign song. XD), I used to practice "Sekai No Yakusoku" (the ending song to Howl's Moving Castle) and now I am currently baffled on "Again" by Yui... I liked the easier ones... Like "Akai Tsuki" from Desgaia.

Oh, and then there's Caramelldansen, but I mean, it's Caramel-freaking-dansen. Not to mention "Håll om Mig" (Best Princess Tutu fan video ever. XD).

And the only other language I've studied is Spanish. =/

Well, that concludes this blog entry.

Now get off my lawn,

I think its because we like change. We're always interested in new things. Its like how people get the newest iphone or whatever, they want the newest thing. People are crazy that way, but once you find something knew to you you immediately get hooked.

Thats just how I think of it.

A few basic possibilities:

a. You don't understand intuitively what's being said.

b. The languages are more "euphonic" than English. Try listening to Mandarin Chinese. It's like using a cheese grater on your ear.

c. You only find the best/most famous examples of foreign music. There's just as much bad or insipid Japanese and Swedish music (although certain different trends and styles can dominate foreign regions, so there's some variety as to the style of bad music). Yes, there's a Swedish Justin Bieber out there; you've just never heard of him because he's not famous outside of Sweden.*

*The reason why people in Sweden have heard of den Biebern is because American music is internationally influential.

Haha, interesting ideas. I do like new and odd things, so I don't find it that surprising that I listen to other songs. ^^'

In response to Bio Gio:

a. Well, duh. XP Except, you know, when you look up the lyrics.

b. Hmm... You know, that could be it too. Different languages also have different styles. Like asian music with lyrics. The language structure is different, and therefore there would be differences in the way the song is set up as well. In other words: Try translating a Japanese song so that the lyrics are now in English. It doesn't normally sound quite right in my opinion (too fast. TOO FAST! D= )

c. Mmm, not too sure about that, but I suppose that's a definite possibility. Well, with things like Caramelldansen, yes, but there are others that I pick up from more popular things like Eurovision to looking around my other interests (such as anime or playing the telephone game with video suggestions. XD). I have talked to a few friends from other areas, and they once told me the song I liked was actually an old song. XD (They had nothing against it, but I guess it belonged to an older generation).
