too much!

So this morning I realized only way too late that my mp3-player's battery was low. As in, no music for me. Guess what happened. C:

^ First scribble of the day, while going by underground, trying to ignore people. I am seriously bad at that, shutting out noises, they're quite distracting. Also sorry 'bout the inappropriate use of memes (kinda), it was in the morning, I was still half asleep.

^ And that was on the way back home. Which was worse because there were even more people. Argh. Not. Funny.

Apart from that, it has been an okay day; the "Theoretical Physics II: Quantum Mechanics" lecture started today, with mostly revisions from last semester's introduction course. It's not hard yet but I'm kinda scared that it will go all confusing and overly-abstract again. D:

It's interesting, though, so I'll just keep doing my best and hope it's enough. C:

I can be too good at drowning out background noise.

When I was a kid, I would be the last person to know when we were taking a family trip... the night before we left. XD

True story

I can corroborate this.

Also, nice sketches. While I don't need to have music or headphones on in the presence of many people, I do appreciate the part of my day where I am alone with my thoughts and a hot cup of tea. ^_^

ALSO QUANTUM MECHANICS! I'll tell you that the sooner you get a handle of the formalism, the better. I know it can be very abstract (especially when you get to spin states), but learning bra-ket notation will make things much easier in the long run.

When I was a kid, drowning out talking and background noise was a TREMENDOUS challenge for me. As in, I had to hold my ears shut whenever I was in the school cafeteria. I later discovered that this was connected with my Asperger's Syndrome/Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I got better at this over time, but I can still have a really difficult time ignoring people if I know them well enough to recognize their voices.

I understand your misery. When I was in college I would frequently have to retreat to my department's labroom on weekend nights because it was pretty much the only place where the sound of parties couldn't penetrate. And then when I got bored staring at slides I would retreat to the late night cafe and sit until 2 in the morning when the parties were forced to end. Noise in general (construction, yelling, singing, all of it) eventually became such a distraction for me that I always walked around with earplugs in- day or night weekends or weekdays.

Noise is one thing I definitely don't miss about school. Here's hoping you can get yourself a good pair of earplugs... although I guess headphones and MP3 players work, too.
