I think the complexity was both a strength and weakness for BIONICLE. On one hand, yes, the amount of world building done in the story was phenomenal. On the other hand, the story was spread between so many formats (serials, comics, books) that it was hard to keep track of it all. Even as a fan I had trouble following it.

But, all that aside, you're right. BIONICLE was, and still is, pretty cool.

Hey, I still care about it. I got plenty of enjoyment out of BIONICLE back when it was still happening. I still think it was a brilliantly ambitious theme that succeeded mightily in many of the goals it set for itself. It was extraordinary in many, many ways.

With that said, I don't want to spend all my time looking back when I could be looking forward. There are plenty of new things to enjoy, including many that are in a sense BIONICLE's living legacy. I got plenty of enjoyment out of BIONICLE as it happened — I have no need to dwell on it except for when I'm in the mood for an occasional shot of nostalgia.
