First things first: there is currently a distribution to receive a shiny Mega Gengar in the US (GameStop) and Canada (EB Games). You need to enter the store and ask the employees about it; they'll give you a card with a scratch-off code, which you can then redeem using the code option on Mystery Gift. This is the first time I've used this method, and it's kinda neat, but I prefer the wireless method that allows me to get my Pokemon without interacting with people ahahaha

 

Also very important: We finally know how we're getting the ORAS demo in the US! If you're part of the Pokemon Trainer Club and have signed up for newsletters, the October 21st newsletter with give you a code to download the demo.

 

Related to that, the demo unveils two new Mega Evolutions! Mega Glalie is an absolutely terrifying oni mask thing with a gaping maw, pure Ice type, has the ability Refrigerate. Mega Steelix appears to have Mega Stones growing out of its body like spikes and has some kind of ring of energy around its head, same typing, Sand Force ability. And with Mega Steelix, we have our first new Gen 2 Mega in ORAS, meaning ORAS introduces new Megas for every single Generation!

 

Also Mega Rayquaza. It looks really cool. I was wondering if it was going to get a Mega or a Primal; it's tied to new lore, and appears to Mega Evolve in a unique fashion, so it'll be interesting to see if this is reflected in gameplay. Also, Mega Rayquaza is going to be joining the two Mega Mewtwos in that Highest Base State Total tie. If we keep getting more 780 stat Pokemon, then maybe we really will be getting 820 Mega Arceus...

 

Have we mentioned Mega Pidgeot or Mega Beedrill? Kind of neat that they're Mega-ing more Gen 1 Pokemon a lot of us started with, but I don't know that I really have much to say about either of them. Mega Pidgeot has neat hair. Mega Beedrill is, um...uh...I don't know, I got nothing.

Whoa, haven't used my Trainer Club account in a while. It was still hooked to my defunct college email, too.

 

Just to clarify, all I have to do is click the box that allows me to receive email updates on my profile page, right? I definitely don't want to miss this demo!

Apparently they won't patch X and Y for ORAS stuff though, so that's super disappointing. The new megas look great though

I believe that's all it is--that's where the links in the article I read took me, and I don't see anything else.

 

Oh, it hadn't even occurred to me that patching could work.  In that case, yeah, that is weird.  Also it appears Trainer Customization won't be in ORAS, and that's a bit of a let down...

Wait, where did you read that? I had thought that at the very least they'd patch them so that, for instance, the new Mega Evolutions would be able to be used (and appear correctly) in multiplayer battles with X and Y.

 

I'm also disappointed about the apparent lack of Trainer Customization. Not that it's a necessary thing (at least, not for me), but I had really hoped they would develop that further. Maybe next generation...

They apparently confirmed the lack of both things in two interviews today; lack of customization kn one,which officially nails that shut sadly, and the absence of patches for x/y(which is a stupid decision, imo, since while yeah it kinda makes sense.to keep hings "exclusive", this sounds like they can't even have the new forms appear, and OR AS introduce a bunch of new things... So, what, is there gonna be a blanket ban on the new moves and megas??) in another, and it's just mindboggling for both...

Yeah, I won't be getting the Gengar - I'm not invested in Pokemon X at all anyway (since I felt it was rather mediocre), and I'm not going to trek all the way to the nearest EB Games to get a special card for it.

 

I have signed up to get the ORAS demo though. Perhaps after playing it I will be able to tell whether I want to invest in OR after all.

I'm not too concerned with the Gengar since I already have his shiny. Just wish Diancie was here already.

 

Also, from what Serebii says, it looks like different regions get a different Mega in the demo? So North America's turn on the demo may reveal another Mega. That or it's just two, one for Japan and one for everywhere else. The second seems likely...

Oh, and before I forget, the guy running the register asked if I had preordered the new Pokemon game before he gave me the card. So if at all possible, I'd have proof prepared that this isn't required.

 

I heard this happened with the last distribution as well.
