Movies

Underscore

I don't see a lot of movies. In fact, I only saw one at the theaters in 2016 (it was either Independence Day or the Purge (can't remember), but I remember not being too impressed). Well, I went to the theater for the first time in 2017 today, and saw Rogue One. It was a great movie. It succeeds in creating a new story with new characters, but still ties in nicely with the rest of the Star Wars movies.

1 question though, how were they able to recreate Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin? Carrie Fisher was looking much older by the time it came out, and it turns out Peter Cushing died in '94. So either there was some incredible CGI or two actors with uncanny resemblances to the originals? (Or George Lucas planned the story and shot the scenes 30 years in advance, which I find unlikely)

both guesses are correct; they used similar-looking actors and then recreated the original actors' likenesses with CGI over them.

it wasn't even particularly great CGI though, it was kind of uncanny valley imo

Heh, really? That can't've been easy. Upon rewatching the scenes I guess it looks a little unnatural, but I didn't really notice anything watching it the first time.
