I got an email the other day telling me that Squarespace is once again changing the price of the plan I use for my personal website Not in the good way, in the getting higher way. When it renews in a couple months I'll be paying nearly $20 a month for a website platform that I use mainly as a portfolio. Which is a good chunk more than it cost when I started using it and I'm paying for features I neither use nor need (sales platform?). Even its video hosting capabilities are lackluster (thirty minutes of video is... not a lot of time [incidentally, Vimeo's paid plans are awful now and I need to find a way I need a way to host videos {ugh, why does the internet suck so much right now}]).

All that to say, I found out about Neocities a few months back. It's a platform trying to bring back and cultivate that janky internet of niches and funky websites of my (and, face it, if you're on this website, our) youth. It's also probably decidedly closer to what I want from a website with my name on it; the one that's listed on the business card I still hand out every now and then.

So I am, in the year 2026 and in my mid-thirties, learning HTML beyond just enough to mcguyver together some changes to a MySpace page.
