Point Of Blogs

This debate of sorts is basically at a standstill, you can still contribute but don't expect any changes.

What's the point of them if you can't have a little fun in 'em? It's not like all blogs have to be serious, like "Today I pondered the meaning of life", that's just boring. It's nice to have a few blogs that are just pointless to get your mind off all the seriousness and sadness in this world, y'know? And all these new rules banning this and that aren't helping. I know I should "PM an Admin/Staff member" to talk about my opinion on these rules, but what's the point? It's not like the rules will be change just cause I and some other people don't like them, that's never happened before (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) and it won't happen now. I just don't see what the problem with a little quirkiness in blogs is, that's all. And to all those people who complain about chatspeak and other stuff in blogs that they don't like, here's an idea: don't read that blog! Go to some other blog that doesn't have that stuff.

And if anyone sees this as me bashing BZP or it's staff, then you're stupid, because I'm just trying to make BZP a better place by providing some criticism. That's how it works in real life.

Close if dupe.

EDIT: Let's count:

Those for my opinion: 14

Those against: 5

You have no idea how much I agree with you on that.

Apparently, it's banned because some people can't work out what it says. I, however, think it's perfectly fine in the blogs - the point is that the blog is yours, it's your virtual diary, so why can't you add your own little touches?

Move if in the wrong blog.

And if anyone disagrees with me, please do go ahead and say why, because I really want to have a serious discussion about this, however boring it may get.

How is "liek srsly" that different from "like seriously"... I don't see why people can't decipher that.

That little rant just gained you a five star rating. :P

But seriously, I enjoy going to random blogs and having a good laugh. It's good for the body and all.

...

Proceed.

They just put it in the blogs because if they put it on the forums then they'd get no posts, considering how many people can't spell.

Whoever put this rule into effect has no sense of humor whatsoever.

See, this is why I like to test people's actual tolerance for difference with the volatile weirdness in my blog. Of course, it's not volatile or weird, some people just had the humor parts of their brain surgically removed.

You are correct people should be able to have fun in their blogs, and many people do. You don't need chatspeak to have a fun and popular blog, and I'll give you my honest opinion on chatspeak. (It is not the opinion of the staff, their opinions may differ.) I find it to be very annoying due to some of my friends constantly talking to me via IM using it. Personally, when I'm not doing my job on here I would rather relax without it.

My main point is there are a lot of blogs out there that don't use chatspeak and are still extremely funny.

BTW, you made some great points.

Thanks for not banning me but instead providing some good points. j/k. :P

I'd like some examples of funny blogs without chatspeak please, I can't think of any myself right now.

I still don't like the rule and doubt I ever will, refer to my chocolate ice-cream analogy in my other entry:

It's like someone doesn't like chocolate ice cream, so the whole world stops making it because that one person doesn't want to see chocolate ice cream anywhere.

Yeah, but there's no reason it should be banned. If there's too much spam with chatspeak the blog owner can delete it themselves.

Hmm, so the only person against what I said is Kohaku. That's kind of shocking... where are all the people who reported these chatspeak blogs then?

I am against chatspeak. It is hard to understand.

I think the ice-cream analogy works well here.

If you don't want to see chatspeak in a blog, then don't read it. It shouldn't bother you if you can't see it.

If it gets out of hand, the blog owner can simply delete it.

Personally, I have nothing against it.

Maybe that's because I can speak fluently in both chatspeak and leetspeak.

Why though?

liek srsly isn't all that much different than like seriously...

Um...I can't. :lookaround:

Personally I think it's a fine rule.

See, I don't like people who just jump on a bandwagon and stay there without explaining why. IMO "I can't read it" isn't the best of reasons... "liek" is just "like" with the k and e switch. "srsly" is "seriously" without most of the vowels. It sounds the same if you try and say it also.

I don't even know why I'm trying to defy the BZP Staff... I won't win anyways.

Not everyone can do that, sheesh, and you're gonna have to live with that! Sure, I'm getting better at reading that wacko stuff, but I'd much rather perfer REAL English instead of perverted English. ;)

So, seriously, when I say, "I can't read it" that actualy means that I can't read it, and that should be a good enough reason for you. When someone can't read it that's a MAJOR problem; not everyone is as good at you at deciphering the perverted English language, you know. ;)

Anyway, THAT'S why I think it's a good rule. Seriously, I just can't understand your logic sometimes. :notsure:

Even though chatspeak is a fun way to relieve stress and all that, I'd rather not see it all over the place. I mean, in a blog post is fine, as long as you don't use it for 50 blog posts in a row. It does get tiresome after a while.

So, in short, I'm on the fence.

GMan

If you can't read it, why are you reading the entry in the first place? And another thing, if you don't like something in the blogs, you're probably in the percentage that doesn't like it, as comes with everything. Some people don't like muffins. Nobody gets thrown into the quarry punished for posting about muffins. I don't like noodles very much. But I don't scream at people for writing about them. I don't really agree with the rule.

So why can't you live with people that use chatspeak? Why is it we have to compromise?

Calling the English language perverted, indeed. *huffs*

I bet there's at least one language with more swear words.

Um...because it's annoying to see...to me. :P

Oh meh, I don't know what to think. I think it's a good rule because it's annoying and nearly impossible to read, but on the other hand it would be nice to have a bit of freedom.

Well, whatever, I guess no side is right, but since we're all on BZPower we're just gonna have to obey the rules. And if you don't want to then you don't have to be a member. :)

...

By the way, sorry for being WAY too harsh, I think I may've gone out of my mind.
