  1. I agree. I mean, they're both essentially tackling the same themes, except cyberpunk is couched in a rebellious, "fighting the man" setting, and steampunk/clockpunk is couched in the setting of the British Empire's glorious, unquestionable supremacy. Well, the bad steampunk is.

But seriously, yeah, they were nice-looking sets, but they were a letdown after 2007's innovative, set-unique focus, especially since they were supposed to be the return of the Nuva. EDIT: Boy, am I a geek.

Perhaps, since the franchise has basically drawn to a close, those people with a passing interest in the subject, and few bonds to the community (which made their not being fans so annoying) departed for newer pastures. Pastures fertilized with harmful chemicals that run off into a nearby stream. A stream that orphans drink from because their poor, run-down orphanage has no running water. And the pasture was built on razed forestland that was actually the habitat of an extremely local species of bird, thus demolishing a quarter of their traditional nesting grounds. And the cows grazing there are actually sinister organisms engineered from cow DNA to resemble cows but function as biological equivalents to electronics. Which electronics, specifically, is unknown, but the cows aren't any less sinister when they all turn their heads to look at passing cars. It is hoped they are Walkmans. And the cars are driving past the pasture on an interstate highway that took away traffic from a nearby older route, destroying the economy of the surrounding towns. I'm going a bit far, aren't I.

I think it was more that a bunch of relatively early members who coalesced into some kind group of tastemakers began going through the same adolescent pangs of angst and shortsighted vitriol, and led a few others with them. As for what happened after, well, I can't speak for that because I wasn't here frequently.
  5. Vaguely sinister, I agree. Red eyes and the implication of ancientness are a good combination for that.
  6. Happy birthday!

  7. Will you have a bowler hat on, and talking about fruit flies, bananas, and arrows?
  8. I would argue that if you inspect it more closely, it's "if enough humans let their apathy or ignorance get them to let horrible things happen, horrible people will immediately take advantage of it and all the people will be horrible by default".
