Macs are not bad. Image editing software I couldn't help you with (I have Photoshop on hand, so I never bother with anything else), but there's a quick way to rotate and resize a picture. If you're on OSX, open the picture in Preview (if that isn't the default program (iPhoto might be the default), go to Macintosh HD >> Applications and Preview should be there). Rotate the picture if it needs to be rotated. Then press apple-shift-4; you'll be able to take a screengrab of the picture in .png format, which will be at a reasonable size and the appropriate orientation.

 

It's not an image editing program, but it'll work.

 

(You might try searching online for a downloadable image editing program. I just ran a quick search and found one instantly, so I'm sure you could...)
