Toy Fair And Lego World
I just found out that I'll get to go to LEGO World for a couple of days - woohoo! It's being held (as usual) in Zwolle, The Netherlands. I've been to several US events (notably BrickFest and NW BrickCon - which is coming up) but never to the European ones. I just missed 1000Steineland, but I'm hoping to go next year.
LEGO World is a huge public event with thousands of visitors. It's more of a public expo than an AFOL convention, although there are elements of both. I'll get to go in my official capacity, which is fun. "Meet the BIONICLE webmaster!" - instant faux celebrity, just add brick
I'm also going to be attending Toy Fair in Nuremburg, Germany. I think it's next February. That's a trade show, not open to the public, but it will be attended by toy makers and toy buyers (e.g. the retail sellers like Toys R Us, WalMart, Target, etc). I'm pretty good about knowing the consumer side of LEGO, and I'm getting up to speed on the internal aspects of LEGO. But the part where LEGO sells to their customers - the toy sellers - is where I'm sketchy, so this will be a good opportunity to learn more about that end of the business.
There'll be other trips too, maybe even a dash or two over to Los Angeles. Travel is keeping me busy, but it's fun.
Oh, speaking of travel, here's a pic of me in Copenhagen last week:
The shadow of the guy taking the picture is a friend of mine, Mike, who runs a web company in the UK. We were on our way to a meeting, walking along the canal to the office of Advance A/S. Picturesque, ain't it?
