If you're referring to the Harry Potter news I'm thinking of, than I say I can't blame you for becoming dis-asscociated with it. I, myself, am not a Harry Potter fan (for relegious reasons), but if I was, I know I'd be doing the same thing right now that you are.

I applaud you for your decision.

But if you're going to change your name...why not go with "CF" or something. Then you're still your old self, but can say it stands for anything you want (change daily if you're so inclined)

I just figured it was a name you came up with. Why is Omi...Omicron? Where did "Kex" come from. Why did she decide to add "Husky" after Hahli?

Ugh... please don't get in a fuss over that news. I have friends both here and in the real world with similar views to those which J.K. Rowling has expressed, and I see no reason I should avoid association with a famous (and magnificent!) author any more than I should avoid association with them. Differing views should be respected, and completely avoiding association with those who hold them just seems wrong to me.

And don't change your name, either-- You're the sort of person I could seriously see getting a staff nomination, and changing your name lessens that chance, if only slightly.

Don't change your name. It would just be silly to refuse to like something as a whole just because you don't approve of one part of it. Just deal with that part (accept it, live with it, ignore it, whatever pleases you) and think of what you do like instead.

Yes, respected. It's just that I don't appreciate those views, being what I was taught growing up and all. I'll live with whatever people I meet, I'm not the judging kind of guy. But at the same time I don't like those views in general, and the news has caused a stir....

Still, I think it noble of J.K. to have made that revelation, regardless of the controversy it aroused. Expressing one's views is one of the most important rights of man in my opinion, and J.K. has done a good job of expressing hers that even those with views we can neither comprehend nor endorse can be noble and intelligent people. I certainly wouldn't have had the courage to include such controversial views in my writing, much less publicly announce them.

I certainly wouldn't have had the courage to include such controversial views in my writing, much less publicly announce them.

I was more disappointed she didn't include them in the writings. The way she did it seems more like a cheat to me. I wish she would've trusted me as a fan enough to actually include it.

Personally, I don't read HP books, but I did notice that news. I have two great friends with that same...view. I didn't know it for a fact until a few days ago, and when I did, my respect level for them plummeted to near zero (I had had great respect for them, both being greatly skilled and very fun to be around. But you respect people for what they do, and I just can't respect someone with such...filthy views. Sorry if I offended anybody in that last sentence, but I heard about my friends on Friday. It haunted me the whole weekend. I'm still trying to get a grasp on it). Because I don't read HP, I didn't catch the reference (still don't). However, I would definitely disconnect myself from HP if only for the recent news (quickly defending my earlier statement: If somebody lies to you, do you still trust them as much as you did before? No. Same with respect). I think ChocolateFusion is an awesome name.

I've known heterosexuals with worse views. I think a view that is harmless to anyone but the people who have it is scarcely something to judge people for. And I really hope that you will reconsider if your friends were as deserving as you claim they were before, for that has not changed.

And, fyi, I, too, disapprove of such views. But I have reasons for doing so that cannot be discussed on a family-friendly site, and I certainly disagree with a lot of the phobia I've seen lately over the subject. Let's just say I don't approve of the sorts of activities associated with such views regardless of the genders of the people involved.

The comparison to lying does not apply in the slightest, btw, as it is an action that even if harmless to you may likely cease to be so in certain situations, situations which are not unlikely to come up. A better comparison would be to gambling-- support of such is just one's view, and as long as you are not involved in the practice then it should not significantly lessen your opinion of the person who is (though if your views are so opposed you are free to attempt to change those of the people who are involved if you are concerned for their well-being).

Well, as much as this is an important issue to discuss, there are many views out there and are not:

1) necessary on BZP. As long as no one feels violated by members, then I don't think this is an issue. We all have usernames, so for all I know Advocate could be female. (I know Aanchir is male) My point is it is not an issue here.

2) The point of this blog entry. I made this to see people's views about me changing my name, based on what I felt about the current news. We are not discussing the current news, just my name change and the reasons for that. Don't go deeper. There is the PM button, but this is close to a political and religious issue so I warn against it.
