Help! Username Dilema...

*Sigh*

Recently, I've been concerned about my username. Now, I've figured out that it means nothing in Japanese as I originally feared, but after splitting it into syllables, I'm more concerned that It might mean something in some Arabic language. I'm not sure what, but I know almost for sure that "ur" is a middle name in the Middle East, and that "gak" means something over there. I also know that if you replace the first letter of the screename with... let's say an "m" or "y", that it's an Iranaian surname. Not sure what they'd translate into or not, but It's made me kind of worried that I might get Emails and so on harassing me because of it.

I'm really not sure I'd want to keep the username if it'll cause problems, then again, when I Googled over fifty alternate ways to spell it, not hardly a thing came up, so I might be over reacting. But even if that's the case, I can be over protective of the "uniqeness" of my screename. That, and there was also that instance of how I reacted when I discovered that "Taku"(one of the old names of my character) was used by Lego for the name of a bird in Bionicle, so really, I'm not certain I want to be using my sceenname if it's going to be causing me to go all emo and freak out every time someone "steals" it.

So I'm thinking of changing my username to something like "Toa Anthony"(Anthony being my first name). The thing is, it might be in use by someone else elsewhere, so I'm not so sure I'd want to be using it, but I won't have to worry about someone pitching a fit of rage due to thinking it's "cultural vandalism", so I'm unsure whether or not to use it. I also have to keep in mind that if I am indeed overreacting, that I've just lost a perfectly unique username, and people would basically consider it "up for grabs", though I'd still have Gakurahk as a username on certain other sites...

Personally, I'm kinda leaning towards changing my screenname to Toa Anthony, unless I can think of something better, but that would mean having to go back and edit a lot of posts and stuff. Then again, I could finally be at rest when I think of my screen name, knowing well that I'd have no worries of getting yelled at for it, or the possibility of it meaning anything that might offend some folks, So I'm really kinda stumped here.

If y'all have any suggestions, or any way to help I would REALLY appreciate it. I'm really kinda lost here...

-Anthony/Gakurak

Edit:Alright, I've decided; I'll stick to Gakurak. Sounds more bionicleish, anyway.

Toa Anthony? Not a very good name... using your real name and combining it with a "BIONICLE" word doesn't make a good name.

How about Toa Yonath? 'Yonath' is a name I made combining letters from 'Anthony' and creating a new name.

If not, there are other combinations:

Anhotyn

Yanthyon

Nyathon

Nayhont

Tonhayn

Haynont

'Gakurak':

Karukag (made by spelling Gakurak backwards)

Garukak

Kakkurag

Ugarukak

Agkaurak

Gukakar

Do you not understand? The reason I'm doing this is so I'll have a username that I can use without having to worry about it meaning something that will cause people to flip out when they read it. It's not like I'm going to use it in fan fiction, anyway

Besides, those names you suggested do mean things if you split the syllables, which was what I was avoiding.

Not only that, but think about it, Anthony does sound kinda Bionicleish if you disregard the spelling. Really.

I wouldn't worry about it. Have you ever heard of an instance where someone got ticked off because someone's username meant something in a foreign language if the actual word itself was split up into syllables? No, I don't think so.

Besides, whenever I saw your username, I always thought, 'Bohrohk'.

Really?

Nowadays, In this messed up, crazy society, people will LOOK for excuses to whine about things. Not only that, but you're forgetting how obnoxiously people will state things if it turns out it does offend them.

That almost never happens. :P "Gakurak" is a very good name actually. "Toa Anthony" just sounds like well... a newbie name. (no offense)

Well, yes, you're right, but we can hope that when someone joins BZP, they will adhere to the guidelines and act like civil people.

Since when do rules stop people?

But I suppose you're right to some degree, though I'm most likely going to pronounce it differently.

I'm still unsure though. I'm still worried about somone giving me death threats in regards to my name because they don't know how politely state something.

You do know that quite a few names in Bionicle are real life ones? For example, theres Tahu and Hali, not to mention a few matoran from MNOLG2. If you're confused, there ARE such things as non-western names.

It is true that there are names that have a true meaning, but that was before some lawyer started to complain.

Besides I kinda liked the name. It has a bit more of a Bionicle feeling.

Oh, and the Japanese language ends with vowels (ie: yuuki, kokoro), except for "n" (ie: nan).

I see you already made a decision on that -- but I wanted to say something anyways.

Just about all words mean something in some other language out there. Even a lot of standard English words mean things in other languages, some of them curse words. There's thousands of languages on this planet, but only a severely limited number of sounds the human mouth can make (which is what written language is based on). No matter what you choose, you can never be certain it is totally unique and doesn't mean anything else.

I think it's admirable to be careful not to offend people where it makes sense. But at some point, you have to be willing to stand up for yourself and be confident enough that if someone comes at you with an unreasonable accusation, you don't take it. All about whether it's reasonable or not.

Trust me; this is just one example really, but as a moderator I know how that goes. I get those kinds of accusations, though about very different things from what you are talking about. You gotta respect yourself first. Then you can deal with those who don't respect you. :) You can even show them what respect is by respecting them too, maybe even more than they respect themselves.
