Antroz And Radiak

ANTROZ

Quote: "Toa serve an important purpose in this world -- they help me keep my claws sharp."

Personality: Antroz if the leader of the Brotherhood of Makuta forces in Karda Nui and an accomplished warrior. He is well aware that he has to deal with powerful personalities in the other Makuta and the need to make sure he retains their respect. Unlike the Makuta of Metru Nui, he never underestimates a foe. Antroz is a rare Makuta who has some sense of honor and would rather win a fight fairly than cheat.

Mask: Kanohi Jutlin, the Mask of Corruption. Causes items to slowly rot and break down.

Equipment: Tridax pod; claws; teeth

RADIAK

As fierce a fighter for the side of shadow as he ever was for light, Radiak was once the biggest hero among the Av-Matoran. Now that he has been corrupted, he delights in challenging his former friends to combat and then seeing them ambushed by the Makuta.

Equipment: Four legs blades; teeth

Powers: Can shoot shadow energy from his blades; sloth -- can make a target too slow and lazy to get away (accessible only when riding a Makuta).

Interesting. Explains why he won't rot the weapons of the Nuva. He would win so easily if he rotted them. I just don't get how the matoran use the power of shadow, they turn evil. Light isn't what makes a Matoran good. The Makuta used shadow power when they were good. I don't envy Antroz's sense of honor, but its cool that he has one.

When it's said light, it doesn't mean light energy; it means the light side of a person, like the Force in Star Wars. They drain the light sides of the Matoran, leaving only their dark sides, effectively making them Shadow Matoran (Kra-Matoran, if you will).

Anyway, he sounds awesome. After knowing the Makuta of Metru Nui all these years, it seems really odd to see another of his kind with some semblance of honor. Vaguely reminds me of Dinobot from Beast Wars. Great character, Greg. Thanks!

Antroz is pretty cool, since he has a sense of honor. He seems to have picked the wrong partner though - Radiak is almost the opposite of Antroz since he has no honor and leads his former friends into ambushes. I do have a question though: What is the point of having a mask that can break things down when he has his Makuta powers of Shattering and Disintegration to do that?

I've noticed something. Why did it seem unusual for a Makuta to have honor? Our favorite little Makuta actually let Vakama have a little year off in time trap, just like his side of the deal required, instead of attacking him and his friends when they were vulnerable. I don't believe it has to do with the mask of time either. There would have been PLENTY of opportunities to attack when Vakama did not have the mask of time at hand.

Also, are the makutas' abilites shut off? The mask of corruption matches the desintegration power, and the mask of hunger meets the power drain power. Why would the makuta need masks like that if their special abilities were still working?

Makuta needed Vakama, the other turuga and the matoran to live, because, had he say, killed everyone on mata-nui, no one would be there to a] bring the toa mata to the island(takuas job), and b] tell the toa mata their destiny. Makuta wouldn't take that chance, he's not Icarax after all.

No, at least not the winter Makuta. Corruption is different from disintergration or shattering. Corruption (rotting) is slower and more eviler, while shattering and disintergration are about....Breaking stuff. Vamprah's Avsa can also drain positive emotions.

And thanks for the info Greg! It's awesome to have a Makuta with a sense of honor. And not cheating makes sense. I mean, if you win by cheating, you won't be happy as you didn't really win. But I can't imagine a Makuta with a sense of honor saying that quote and doing bad stuff. It just...doesn't fit his character.

Oh, and what does the quote really mean? Is Antroz saying that Toa are weak and he just uses them to train? Or does he think that Toa are a challenge and can help him sharpen his skills?

I can see Antroz with a code of honor. It would make his victories that much sweeter. The defeated can't whine that they were tricked or cheated and it doesn't leave them with hope that a second go around would end differently. When he beats them it is total and final.

One question that comes to mind: how much of each Makuta's personality gets picked up by their matoran supplicant?

Antroz is by far the coolest Makuta I have ever heard of. Without a second thought, I will buy him first. Thanks for all the info, Greg!

Well, the power drain that all Makuta possessed as their 42 rahkshi powers is only close range, and the Avsa works at long range aswell as short.

I thought Makuta didn't want the toa and matoran to find their destiny. Thats why he sent the rahi, so that they would be too harrased to learn of Metru Nui. Also, remember that he WANTED takua dead? Why would he want Takanuva to suddenly show the matoran their destiny, if he sent the Rahkshi to kill Takua? And my final problem is this: Why was Vakama needed? Even if he wanted the toa to know their destiny, he still could have settled his little vendetta with Vakama, and stolen the mask of time as well. The other turaga could have filled in.

Now THIS is why Makuta is one my favorite villains in fiction. He's definitely on my top ten (My favorite is "Jerry" from Sphere, or possibly El Patron from House of the Scorpion. Hal 9000 from 2001: Space Oddysey and Spoilers! Beth from Sphere ranks pretty high too. Grand Admiral Thrawn from Heir to the Empire is also on the list.). You will NEVER completely understand what he is thinking.
