Still Sailing, And Why [ Dedicated To... ]
As most of you will know, I've been part of the BZPower Staff for quite a while now. Close to three years, I think, though it's not nearly as long as the senior staff members.
The Staff Page may mention that I've been a Staff Member since April 2003, but you should know that I took a six-month break once. I don't quite remember the specific reasons behind it, only that I was too busy at the time to fulfill my captain's duties. It was probably a combination of summer playground work and Scouting, I surmise.
I still spent time on the forums, of course. After all, Bionicle and BZPower are my hobbies, they're not a job. Shortly after resigning, probably due to wanting to further break with my staff position, I changed my screen name to Thancerthas, meaning 'divided unity' in Sindarin, which you can interpret as being a rough translation of my current (and at the time previous) screen name. I later changed it again, to Schizo Revolution. Don't ask me where the revolution moniker came from, I don't remember that, only that it didn't have anything to do with Nintendo.
But after having taken a break from moderating, I signed up for the Support Team (the current Forum Assistant team) again, and shortly thereafter rejoined the Moderator fleet (Forum Leader team).
But why? What moved me to return, what moves me to stay? Because it makes me feel part of a group of peers? Because the larger part of my BZPower circle of friends are staff? Partly, I guess. But mostly it's because I feel I have an obligation towards this site and its creators: by creating this site and making it available, they have made it possible for me to rediscover my playfulness and creativity, my inner child; they have made it possible for me to improve my art skills; they have made it possible for me to discover other talents I never knew I possessed. And they have shown me that friendships can be forged on the waves of the net as closely as in real life, for which I thank them. Cleansing the seas of spam harriers is my way to repay them.
It's just another reason for me to celebrate this 5th anniversary, and to congratulate them as well as my fellow staff members on a job well done. I won't use a certain over-used acronym or its unabbreviated form, but I will say this: thank you for your continued efforts to make BZPower a fun place to be.
A toast!
