Tricky Cops

Spoony Bard

So I was heading on my way home late tonight as usual, like around midnight. Travelling on the Mass Pike as usual. I enjoy going home at this time cuz usually the Pike is literally empty. So this would mean I can go a bit faster than regularly. So yes, as one would put it, I was speeding. So I am going roughly 85-90 mph on the Pike. Cars were behind me, however there was one that was behind me, and kept speeding up to me and kept getting closer. I first thought this guy was riding me, so I sped faster. This didn't suit the guy, so he was going faster and closer. He was literally so close, that I could no longer see his headlights. That is way too -close- when travelling in cars. So as I get irked by this, suddenly the car starts to flash its red and blue lights, meaning this was a cop the whole time. So now I am like "Ohhhhhhhhh !@#$%&", since I was caught speeding. So as I start to merge over to the right (I was on the left), the car just drives by me and turns off his lights.

So lets go over some points. I was going 90 mph. The cop was going 90 mph as well. He was also tailgating me really close. If I stopped quickly, he would have had hit me at that speed. He knows I am speeding, and turns on his lights, which then led me to move over. Then he passes me and keeps driving. Does any of this make sense? Cuz I was expecting to get my first ticket here. Another thing that doesn't make sense is that recently the Mass Pike Authority ordered state troopers patrolling the Pike to pull over more drivers and issue more tickets, since it was shown that cops have been lenient. This guy didn't pull me over, which also irks me. He wasn't doing his job, and was also abusing his authority by speeding as well.

Anyways that was my night. My weekend was kinda bad as well.

I live near a police station and these guys abuse authority ALL THE TIME! And they will pull you over for throwing a lausenge (sp?) out the window rather then for speeding (funny story they thought it was a cigarette... but it wasn't).

Hey look, Omi was speeding and got away with it, it must be okay to speed. ^_^

Hmm, that's funny, this comment kinda reminds me of this blog post.

So does speeding make me any different than how I am on BZP?

-Omi

The Question is, why are you in the habit of speeding in that area? Respecting the law is important ^_^

Whatever, I wasn't trying to start a fight ;) Iagree, the cop was wrong, but maybe he wasn't the only one?

I enjoy letting myself free on the road for a few minutes when they are clear of anything. Feels good after a long, hard weekend.

-Omi

Its against the law.

And I'm sure getting pulled over like you almost were will certaintly feel great too. So will wrecking. Okay, so it's none of my business, but I know I wouldn't do if it were me.

Question, how could I have wrecked into something? Did you even read what I said?

Okay scratch the part about wrecking. But in your own words you seemed to think you were going to get caught. Did you not consider this fact before speeding, or perhaps you thought you wouldn't get caught, as many people do, or maybe you don't care about getting caught?

Please do not confuse this as a condemnation of your actions. I am merely interested in your point of view.

Basically when on the highway and you speed, it is either you are caught or you aren't. I was never under the impression that "I won't ever get caught". I only lucked out of this one. And since it was late at night, I pretty much got a warning, as opposed to doing this during the day, I would have been pulled right over.

So if you are aware of the possibilty of getting caught, is it that driving fast matters more to you than not getting a ticket?

I guess it is more of the thrill of being caught, even though you don't want to be caught.

Yes, and acording to his entry he hasn't been caught yet, at least for speeding, so he cannot truly know what it will feel like.

I only speed for two reasons:

1. Sometimes I am not aware of speeding. Usually when you are focused on the road, your speed can either increase or decrease.

2. Usually to beat time. This is mostly done on the highway, when nothing is in front of me, or could get in my way.

This incident was moreso to relieve some stress from the weekend. To bad I don't own a convertible to feel the wind (even though it is actually cold).

Its against the law.

And?

-Omi

Oh right. I forgot that you're above the law.

Actually I am not. I don't deny my crimes. And if I was pulled over, I would have told him the exact speed he caught me at, and would have paid the fee for speeding without having it being fought over in court.

But since he didn't pull me over, makes you think about his actions than mine. He was also breaking the law and was also not doing his job.

So this is more of a case of knowing that you are breaking the law, but doing it anyway to relieve stress... Yeah, that makes a LOT of sense. :annoyed2:

It actually does. You may think it irresponsible of him to be speeding in the first place, but the fact is, he shows his responsibility by understanding the consequences of his actions and being willing to accept them.

If he wants to relieve stress, he should do some yoga.

Sorry but that won't relieve any stress for me.

People have different ways of relieving stress. No one is the same. Go do your yoga. I for one will be racing Vin and Paul.

I lold when I read that. I'm sure that all people in the world who committed crimes committed them to relieve stress.

*EDIT* Wait a minute. You'e saying that you were going only five MPHs over the speed limit? If that is the case, than you're fine.

No I was roughly 20-25 over (remember, highway, no one in way). I am just stating a point that going over the limit is both bad and good, within reasons.

See a speed limit is not the set speed you should be at. It is basically saying "you should be around this speed". So anyone driving at 25 mph could be going 20 or 30.

It's one thing to go 30 when the speed limit is 25, it's a very diffrent thing to go 25 miles above it. I suppose if your willing to pay the ticket, then that's your choice. And is there really nothing for you to hit? No guardrails, other cars, nothing at all?

Unless there is a guardrail right in front of me, which isn't likely for the Pike (considering it is straight in entirety), and the fact that I am not under the influence of anything, I won't be hitting anything.

Okay. I still don't agree with it, but if you want to speed, go ahead. It's your life, not mine.
